Hi folks,

I am starting a grow journal and tag along and tell me what you think.

After reading everything I could about Bubbleponics and trying a DWC myself, I decided to buy a SH Bubbleponics 400 w mh/hps started kit.

I started to build they box to hold it. It will be 3 X 4 X 7 outside dimensions. The grow area will be 3 X 3 ft. The height will be 6 ft and the top 1 foot will be used for fans, air conditioning, etc and can be accessed from the top.

Yahoo !

Hi folks, I'm back with a report:

Received my Ballast and New Metal Halide light back (quick service BTW) from SH, they indicated that the light was bad not the ballast, but I couldn't tell.

Anyway, I put in 5 Super O.G. Clones into my BP with 199 watt of CFL's I had hanging around to get going and was having a problem with the pH, it keeps rising. So much so that I doubted my meter was working correctly. It is working just fine. The little pH strips in the Kit did not read correctly, another test kit I have (Reef test kit), verified the meter was working. I then got another Sour Diesel Clone as I was trying to figure out what was up.

In other words, as I am learning to grow Hydroponically on the Fly !

I will be updating this regularly and I wish you would comment on my grow, ask me questions I don't know to ask, etc.

So below are some pictures.

the 1st shows my box with the Metal Halide installed.

2nd shows the BP with all 5 clones, today.

3-4 Super O.G. clones starting to come alive, they all look alive but only three of them are really showing roots.

5 Sour Diesel clone - which I put in almost a week later, after almost freaking out.

Thanks for everyone help !

Peace - :peace:

I am having trouble with the pics, so I will add them in another post?

How are we doing today ? Well I am learning a lot!

Making Progress.

Here is what I learned about Hard Water in Los Angeles....

Levels of Hardness

Degrees --- PPM ---- Description

0 - 4 dH 0 - 70 ppm very soft

4 - 8 dH 70 - 140 ppm soft

8 - 12 dH 140 - 210 ppm medium hard

12 - 18 dH 210 - 320 ppm fairly hard

18 - 30 dH 320 - 530 ppm hard

Higher > 530 ppm Liquid rock (Lake Malawi and Los Angeles, CA)

O.K. - so the water I have is like liquid ROCK, which means it is near impossible to maintain the proper pH levels required for hydroponic growing with plain old Los Angeles Tap Water.

I thank fatman7574 for his through explanation of the problem and suggested corrective action.

What's a man to do ?

Mix RO or Distiller Water with the tap water to get a PPM of around 100-150 to start with. Then changes in pH will be more gradual and controllable.

I am sure if you asked the fatman he will share his considerable knowledge regarding water and how GK HK ph and all that stuff work together.

This is now working better for me.

When I started out I bought some O.G. clones from my local dispensary and just about killed them. My pH was so erratic, I would adjust it and it would go up .4 in an hour.

Then I put in a Sour Diesel clones because I had room, it faired better than the OG. Not as fragile.

Now I am back on the road..... hopefully I will have everything stabilized when I vacation for Christmas.

Peace - :peace:

O.K now - had some stuff growing on the roots - did the 8 step recovery program.

What do I think ?

I believe I have the pH under control.

I put the pump back in after I cleaned it, it was clogged. The little filter in it was also clogged.

Put a shroud around the res, one of those reflecto - windshield covers which has some insulation. Also put aluminum foil covering the top.

Removed res, completely cleaned it and dried it.

I will monitor res temp and watch for root rot & algae.

Any input would be appreciated!

Hi folks,

The saga continues...

I have had a horrible time with my plants, they don't seem to grow, got the root rot. I did the "8 step" twice. Every time it would slime up.

I don't think I had root rot, I believe I have an Algae or cyanobacteria problem.

I got a lot of good info on http://www.icmag.com/ regarding this issue. kiss-ass

Short quote

"Algae problems will make the ph go up. "Root Rot" meaning caused by bad bacteria or fungi will make your ph go down. Both types of problems will make your roots brown and dead."

I have cleaned my res with Physan 20, 1ml per 10 gallons. Did a change. Also changed to Botanicare ProGro (I used it before).

This looks like it finally did the trick. we will see.

I will report back later - on my progress. I need this stabilized before next week as I will be leaving them alone.

Peace - :peace:

:wall: I had some problems with the Bubbletronics, my bad, so I put them in dirt while I was on vacation. Saved three, a Sour Diesel and 2 Supper O.G.

I am keeping them in the dirt, I will use the Bubbletronics when they are ready to clone.

Lookin Good !

Peace - :peace:

Happy New Year :leaf:

I love the grow box. I remember doubting it but it looks great. How are temps in the garage there? Running lights at night or daytime? Are you gonna keep that Super OG tied down during flowering? I know the super genetics are stretchy.

Thanks groputillor,

The box came out great. I am still not completely done, but I wanted to step through the buildup, also make it easier on myself. Now that I have the vented hood and carbon filter I will put the finishing touches on it. Like lockable door and correct intake vents.

Right now the garage is about 50 degrees. With the light on the high it is about 70 degrees, without the light the low about about 60 degrees. If I turn off the fan it stays about 79 degrees. We will see when I close it up with the doors rather than the temporary cardboard front door I am using now, we'll see how the temps go. I have room left in the box for air conditioning.

I am currently running the lights during the day 6am t o 6pm.

I had to tie down the to Super O.G.'s a couple of weeks ago as they were out-growing the other plants, everything is filling in nicely.

I'll have some more updates soon.

Hi folks - update

Well things were going great, then watching the game on Sunday, I went down and noticed my 400w HPS was dim.

Hmmmm.... Bulb or Ballast...

I put 315 watt Multi-spectrum CFL's array on it.

Then checked and the Ballast would light my Metal Halide just fine, so I left it on.

Put in a NEW HPS and it was the same as the other light dim.

Went to the local Hydro Store and picked up a Sun Systems Ballast. Plugged it, back in the Saddle...again.

So now I will have to deal with Stealth Hydro...again. Had problems initially, I sent the Ballast back as I would not fire my Metal Halide, They sent it back saying it was the bulb, my bad.

Below is a Pic, 2 weeks into flower, I can see the buds forming.

Peace - :joint::peace:

P.S. - The Super O.G.'s are taking off
