I am just your average college student that loves enjoying marijuana. Last year, first semester, I took classes in horticulture. I was sort of forced into it, because my grades were falling apart and I didn't have many options as far as which classes to take. This was also about the same time that I discovered marijuana. Well, the first time I'd tried it. My dad smoked when I was younger, but it never occurred to me what he was doing. My grades stopped diving and started rising, I stopped drinking and started smoking, and over the course of the next few months I fell in love with MJ.

However, I'm a poor college student. And like with any love I wanted to spend every night with MJ. This started to become expensive. And, frankly, dangerous. Some people that sell marijuana aren't trustworthy or reputable, so you could get scammed, or worse. And I could see this.

The second semester I took another horticulture class, plant propagation. I was hooked. My grades were completely rebounded, and a year later my GPA has too. However, the price of smoking remains the same.

This year I decided to save my money and invest in a system to grow my own weed. I figured it'd pretty much pay for itself over time, and I would be avoiding the risk of being scammed, stolen from, or hurt trying to get weed. So far, I couldn't have been happier.

I've been growing indoors in a 4'11''x4'11''x7'11'' growlab. The inside's of it are made of a reflective material, and has plenty of openings for ventilation, air cooling, and, of course, your viewing pleasure. It seels up and is practically lightproof.

I started my plants exactly 5 weeks ago tomorrow. I've been taking pictures of them and I closely noting growth, change, and irregularites (as tought in hort.). However, I'm looking to get the best yeilds and quality. And rather than make this a trial and error sort of experiament, I'd love to reach out and ask for the advice, comments, or suggestions of the greater population.

Lights : 600MH conversion bulb, 600HPS hortilux.

I've got an inline fan, carbon filter scentgaurd, and light cooling that I haven't hooked up yet. B/c they are in my basement they stay pretty cool, and I haven't been too worried about the scent yet, but the holidays are steadily approaching and visitors will ensue.

I'm growing 2x NLxS #1, 2X Swiss Cheese, 1X LA Woman, and 1X Sour Cream.

Each week I'm blown away by their progress. It seems I've got a new frontrunner in the race for the best looking plant every other day. They are all very impressive.

In the past few days I've noticed that a couple have gotten a bit lighter in color, I've tried adjusting lights and water with little effect. So, next I was thinking about my nutes, maybe I need to be using them more than periodically (once a week at the moment).

Ok, I'll start with a picture of my room and then add the pictures of the weeks progression from there.

My room day of planting the seeds.

Two weeks after being planted.
(Top left going right: NLxS#1 x2, SourCream. Bottom left going right Swiss Cheese x2, LA Woman)

Same order @ week 3. Sorta been moved a bit. The Swiss Cheese are the two biggest and LA Woman at bottom right.

My girls at week 4. (Top left going right: NLxS#1 x2, Sour Cream. Bottom left going right LA Woman, Swiss Cheese x2 )

The ladies at week 5. Order the same. Look at how they came on this week! :-P

Well, this is my first grow. ANY suggestions are wildly appreciated. Any other comments, constructive or otherwise, are also very appreciated.

I'm just looking to get max yield with max quality, and I thought I'd come to the people who have been doing this for many, many harvests for my pointers. :-)

Pretty plants, very healthy looking.

The first thing that I thought about when I saw the first picture was the executioners chamber at the penitentiary.

I grew in a little room like that once, about 3' x 4'. Pulled 31 OZ off of 5 plants in potting soil. Had walls painted flat white.

That room would make for a sweet little hydroponic setup.

Im keeping my eyes on this grow.

I hope your eyes aren't disappointed!

You say that you've grown in a room like this before. I've been think about growth. The room is about 96 inches tall. I've read that I need 18 from my light to the plant, b/c it's not being cooled atm, and the pot the the base of the plant is about 10 inches. The light is about 7-8 inches and I want a few inches of clearance from the ceiling too.

So, I'm think that I've got about 95in - 18 - 10 -10 = about 57inches of growth heighth.

At what height should I flower these plants? I've read that during flower plants can double in size. I just don't want my girls to outgrow their room.

Any suggestion or comments are always appreciated. =)

Between 18 inches and 2 feet. Just be aware that they will double or triple in size after you flower them.

Just bust out when you have a question..... First few things I think of off the top of my head is what size pots are you planning to end up with? If you are going to grow them that tall you will need 5 gallon or larger. Large plants need lots of air movement to prevent bud rot and mold inside the plant. Personally with that space, almost the same as mine you should try a SOG set up. Make another small cabinet to house some mother plants and clones. When your clones root put them in soil until they are established. I start to flower mine at 8-12" and wind up with 3' plants. The larger the plant the more staking and supporting you will need. If your growing skunks i would def recommend a carbon filter. I run vented hods on my 2 400w HPS other wise the temp in the room would be around 100 and hurtful to the plants. Good luck.

Yep, I picked up a carbon filter, inline fan, and ducting this past week with a little birthday money. :)

I've got a fan mounted inside the room for circulation as well. I could pick up another, maybe I should because the one I have is just a 3'' desk fan.

As far as buckets go, those are 2gals. I have some 5's sitting around, but I'll need to pick up more soil. I'll get those moved soon if you think it's very pertinent.

SoG would be a really cool set up for that room, maybe if this grow goes well I'll pick up another small clone lab and light system. Then I could always have SoG in flower in my main room. :-)

My room was getting sorta hot, but I'm installing the ducting this weekend to cool the light, and to alleviate the heat issues in there for the mean time I've been running in a fan from the outside to get it cooler and get more air movement.

This weekend I'll be adding new photos. 5 O'clock, I'll be trying to keep you up to date. I've seen some of your posts and I think you're input would be very beneficial to me. :-)

Thanks,
~Phorms

That's a really cool set up that you have going there. I think SoG is awesome, but I've never seen one first hand or know someone that could direct me through it. Maybe I'll do some more reading, watch your grows, and give 'er a shot. :P

Oh, I should have more pictures in the next few days. I've recently started adding nutes, these girls just feed and feed. I think there have been ~5-6 inches of growth in only a couple of days. Flowering might be coming upon me sooner than I thought!

I don't have pictures from this week, but this is last weekend. Finals in school are running me ragged. Sometimes I just like to look at my girls. I swear I can see them growing!

This is after only two weeks from seed? At what point did they start looking like this? I'm just wondering how long they keep the four leaf palm tree look to them. Mine are almost a week old and still look lik tall seedlings. Just curious and btw your plants look awesome so far.

IDK, if that's too weeks I'd like to find out what nutes your using bro.

Something in your first post said you started 5 weeks ago which would seems to make sense but I'd only had experience in half a grow so far (outside last summer, airborne pesticides got to them :|).

Either way, I'm just starting my own grow and would like to say that your plants are looking amazing. Really luscious fan leaves you've got there.

I'm scribed, I'd like to see how other first timers are doing so I can gauge my efforts.

Looking forward to the next update.

:] Little confusion I think. He was linking the week 2 file. Yes, those were at week two. I'm using a 600w MH and for the first few weeks I didn't use any nutes. The soil was prefertilized, which sort of scared me. But the plants seemed to love it.

UPDATE: My girls are now nearly 2 weeks into flower. I've got pictures from after 1 week I'll add in a separate post. :D

They are looking beautiful. When I switched from 16/8 to 12/12 they sort of physically slumped a little, which scared me, but they bounced back after only a few hours under the HPS. They seem to be loving it so far, also I just switched to Miracle Grow Flowering nutes. The girls have really responded to them. In the first week of flower they grew ~9 inches on average. I'm starting to worry that they might outgrow their room.

These pictures are from week 8. They had been in flower for a few days when I took these pictures. I included a picture of my hand with the LA woman leaves. I just wanted everyone at home to get an idea of what you are looking at.

I put a picture in of the flowering nodes. It was hard to get my camera to focus on it well, but they are flowering everywhere now. :weed:

I'm getting excited, I'll try to keep up on photos too. I just put in my exhaust and carbon filters too. I'll try to get pictures of those in as well.

And, thanks to everyone who is following this grow. :D I love the company!

wow, the girls are looking great. you'll have some amazing plants before too long. keep it up

Hey all, sorry it's been so long since my last post. School started up again and I've been swamped. The girls are done flowering this week. And let me tell you, they look amazing! I'll post a couple of pictures on here, but the pictures don't do them justice. I've never seen bud like them.. except for online. They are absolutely coated in trichromes. The swiss cheese have the biggest buds. The NLxH are very nice plants and yielded nearly as much as the cheese. The sour cream is one of the prettiest plants ever. Some of the leaves have a golden hint to them and some a purple hint. They are starting to go more golden as I nute flushed 'em, but they have some of the most amazing colors in them. The buds are tight and compact with little, almost melatallic-looking, hairs. They are so goregous. The LA woman has an insane amount of trichromes on it too. And it's one of the most unique looking plants out of the bunch. The buds have really long white hairs that are starting to orange.

All-in-all, I can't wait for this shit to cure out. :) My first grow is a success! Thank you everyone that gave me advice and followed my grow! I'll try to get some hi-res pics on here, but for now they'll be camera phone pics. :(
