K9's don't just Smell out Everything that illegal. They have the Dog Sniff Coke Or Weed And then the Dog Goes and Searches for that Scent.... So unless the Pigs Let The dogs Sniff Seedlings.... The Dogs won't find it.

If they bring a dog outside your house and the dog alerts, then they can not use any of the evidence they would collect in the case if their basis for collecting such evidence is the dog alerting. Simply suspecting a house might have pot is not a valid reason to have probable cause to bring a dog to your doorstep.

what they are doing is not legal, however even if its wrong. If they do search because a dog smells a joint or a bag of weed and they find the growing equipment. A lawyer legally should be able to get it thrown out (I say legally because lately the law makes up whatever rules they want at the time). You will still most likely be kicked out of your apartment, causing a lot of undue hardship for 4 small plants. Is that worth it?

Dude, New York City? Do you think the cops are just sitting around looking for something to do and will gladly bring their dog to an apartment upon request? I always had the impression that they were kinda busy and don't have time for petty problems like this. I think it's more likely that somebody reported weed smoke in the area and they sent the letter out to scare the shit out of the tenants to clean up their act. I would recommend the old towel under the door and Ozium when you puff. Try to cook something stinky every day too like fish and onions, even bacon and eggs covers up a lot. I think you may be worrying too much but still probably not safe to grow weed there.

Not defending as it is horrendous. But who knows the legality when the property owner wants the dogs there. This didn't sound like a cop sting, but rather a building owner who may, even with the supreme court ruling, have the right to ask the cops to come in with the dogs. Whether they would prosecute someone with some stash is another question as that is likely not what thy are looking for. Meth lab - more likely.

The Court's decision applies only against governmental actors. If a private building owner wishes to conduct such a search, the 4th amendment isn't even implicated, so the recent opinion is of no help. The owner could invite the police in with their dog, or even "rent" a dog to come in. Nevertheless, giving advanced notice like that is probably a sign that they just want the activity to stop. After all, the entire building could be seized!

But, as most folks have said, I think you should pinch them. Weighing your options: a few seedlings versus potentially months to years in prison (and thousands in associated court costs and legal fees). The answer seems pretty darn clear to me, but either way, good luck!

When you rent, you are at the mercy of the owner/property manager. I think you probably got the idea by now, but you should defiantely toss those out. You have everything to lose and not much to gain with 4 plants in a small setup.

Somethings not right here. My gf is in property management and when the cops come to the apt complex they just kick the doors in without notice. She ask can they just come and get the key instead of destroying the doors they said not allowed to let anyone know they're coming for safety reasons.
