bonum commune imo. I see no good and much harm in the attitude being promoted: "let the police handle it". Police should not be the "last mile" of an overarching security force ... that is not properly within their ambit, even though (perhaps especially) because they're champing at their bits to take that job on. They need to be gently returned to their core duty: to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. To do that, there is no need to countenance their insistence that they be armed beyoind the other civilian citizens in good standing in their jurisdiction. Wanna disarm civilians? Fine; just don't try to defend an exception for uniformed civilians. That is what police are, and I'll view a dissent as spin doctoring, as agenda.
What advance warnings/alternative choices can take over the job of an armed citizen in her down defense? "The police" is neither a practical answer nor a recommended abdication. cn

an assault rifle or assault weapon describes a certain type of weapon, specifically a semi automatic, military style rifle.
you don't need one of those for self defense.

There is actually no such thing as an "assault weapon", it's just a political term used by the ignorant to incite fear in the ignorant.
Kind of like an individual whom links to an article literally about the absurdity of Obama's voting record as an answer to the direct and repeated question of responsibility for the murder of thousands of innocent law abiding Americans.
It all seems like an odd joke to me, but I worry what percentage of our population are being led like sheep regardless of the absurd statements and actions of their leaders ...

Yea assault weapon started as a political term to showcase advance military weaponry around wwii. More of a way to instill fear in enemies. Now it has evolved to being defined in law to create classes of weaponry. It kinda serves a purpose to be able to speak about a specific type of weapon. Kind of like if you wanted to talk about baboons you wouldn't use the term prime-apes because people would think about more than just baboons.
