hey guys, just thought drop in and say hey and get some info.... i'm running soil at the moment and am thinking of making the switch... what are the advantages of coco compaired to soil??

Coco is a midway point between soil and hydroponics. You get the aggressive growth of hydroponics with the forgiving nature of soil. Coco is inert and has no nutrients so you need to use hydroponic fertilizer. Your yields should go up by at least 1/3 and more likely they will double.

I reply to your other post! But coco pros being the ability to feed more during a light cycle than you can with
other mediums. Being able to do this aids in plant growth, also you will see a faster transplant time and roots
set in fast! Using coco has cut my veg time in half. Other factors are coco has a anti bactiral properties and
opens up what you can use to feed them on a more organic level.

All in all coco just plain rocks and i have run almost every type of way to grow.

do you prefer coco over nft and dwc? if so could you detail some of your deciding factors. how did your veg time in coco compare to that of dwc?

Dwc to me was a no go... Only cause the way dwc works, i like one res and a single dilivery of water.
dwc takes a bit to get going as roots set in but once going has very good growth ability! Coco within
2days i have roots blowing out the smart pots showing zero stress or stunting from transplant. In my
long exp with many forms of hydro, coco is by far the fastest medium.

if i was going to go back to dwc i would get into rdwc

Have you done an organic grow in coco? Im currently getting ready to start a grow in sunshine advance #4, ewc, and perlite with roots organic nutes. Ive been wanting to try something in coco. Do you add perlite or anything. Could i use my earth worm castings?

I have not done a 100% organic run yet! Would like to give it a go someday!

I as matter of fact use sunshine mix#4, roots organics nutes when I don't have time for tea's and obviously I make bat guano and other tea's as well. I top dress every other or two weeks or so with guano's and epsom salts.

I only have to feed my girls maybe once a week in veg and twice a week in flower even once a week as well. In between I just do water feed's and I don't ph anything with the dolomite lime in the sunshine mix already.

I have not had the chance to try worm casting yet but I plan on cooking up some of my own sort of super coco soon. This way I won't need to feed at all unless I see deficiencies.

tell me about your teas. Ive been wanting to try some. I think i hav to use a lot of roots.

Tea's are simple and really you can do what ever you want without to many ill side effects that could happen. I was using root's Oregonism Xl to innoculate the coco every week but i ran out and think I may go with the zho powder. When I brewed this tea it was pretty much the oregonism xl and I did a sock full of ancient forest.

Roots you do have to use a lot but some people use it differently. I tend to use it and mix it to a desired ppm and then use a natural ph up to get it to around 6.0 for the bene's to be happy. While other's will only use as much as it takes till it drops there ph to what they want so there not using a ph up if they are worried about ph as well.

As for the tea's I use just some phosphorous guano from roots, buswel, and marine cuisine for veg and flower. I want to get some alfalfa and try that as well for veg. I still tend to use natural ph up to get my tea's back up to around 6. If not they are 4.0 and upwards of 1800-2000ppm so I end up cutting them with water to get them where I want.

I end up just using roots when I dont have time to brew a bunch of tea's.

I know the dyna beg n bloom have cal mag in em but also know that coco requires extra. Any suggestions are appreciated, and if possible id like to use up the mag pro

The ratio that keeps a lockout at bay is more like 3 Calcium to every 1 Magnesium unit. To much magnesium is a mistake, it causes real problems wit Calcium lockout which really gets ugly. Something like mag pro is when the tiger striping and lime leaves take hold....it greens up. Use a comprehensive supplement like cal mag. Just my opinion. Good luck.

i use dyna grow nutes in coco including the mag pro (alot less than directed tho) when i feed or water with ro i add like 50-100 ppm cal mag and use so cal tapwater as ph up. when i get lazy and use tapwater instead i skip the cal mag. i do add like 300 ppm to the blocks when i first soak them tho but i thnk most of that gets washed out when i rinse b4 i add the plants to it. i was seing some mag def the first time i grew in coco which is why i got the cal mag.

you say you're using a cal-mag, what brand? or are u referring to the tap water+ mag-pro? I was somewhat thinking of getting a straight calcium supplement and using that in conjunction with the mag-pro but if thats a little too crazy i can just go out and get a bottle of cal-mag, just wanna know what the best would be

i got a bottle of botanicare cal mag. i use the mag pro (2-15-4) with grow sometimes in flower instead of bloom, but usualy i just use bloom + a little grow depending on how much n i thnk it needs based on the way it looks in flower. for cal i use the cal mag or my local tapwater. id use tapwater all the time but it is like .8+ ec and i get a little worried i will get too much salt buildup, but tbh i thnk i have caused more probs by using ro lol. i got the mag pro bc it was on sale for like $5 and i get bored . i would be worried about over doing it with mag using dyna base + mag pro + cal mag. i thnk the mag pro was made to suplament the dyna grow in dirt with tapwater.

I am moving my post to this section because there seems to actually be activity here.....

First time coco grower. Using Autos and fems...Heres what he's working with...I'll ask questions after:
3-Cocotek bricks by General Hydroponics(The Green Label)

3- Root Pouches at 3 gallons each. He mixed in about 40% perlite(horti grade)

Beans- Positronics Super Cheese Express(auto),Delicious seeds Auto Cheese Candy and Bodhi Goji OG

Nutes- He has the GO box, Dr. Hornsbys Iguana Juice Grow, Roots Organics Oregonism XL, Mykoz WP,Azos, Superthrive, Cal Carb, GH FloroMicro, Gro-Gine Bloom(10-54-10), Roots HP2 and Big Swell

Lighting- Aerogarden 2 bulb CFL(the light that comes with the 7 pod system) and 400 Watt Hps for flowering. Also has mixed spectrum of CFL bulbs
He has soaked and rinsed the coco about four times each. His questions are: Which nutes should he use for vegging? Considering the beans are auto, which nutes above would be best for the first three to four weeks? How much does temp affect growing in coco? Should he mix the mykos into the soil before planting? How does he check the ph levels in the coco? Does he have to go with hydro type nutes for success instead of organics? Can he use the GH floro Micro mixed with nutes from the GO box? At what pH should the water be at? He currently is at 6.0/6.5. Using vinegar and pH up to adjust it. When should the Oregonism XL start to be used. He already had Mykos mixed into the coco..... Looking forward to gaining some knowledge...

If your cgoing to use coco i would use canna coco line of nutes, its a 2 part base a/b and is used from veg to bloom. Or look at cannas bio line its organic
coco isnt soil so ph should be treated as such, 5.6 to 6.2 is the range for coco. You can add your mycos both in the coco
medium and in the res/nute holding tank.
