Do you REALLY want to start comparing crime statistics now?

And fuck all people die as a result of a delayed divorce, most divorcing couples here split their assets evenly before even applying for a divorce.

When we get married we do it cos we're sure we love the person, we don't do the whole "Kim Kardasian wedding" thing here.

I said legislation to put the issue of gay rights to bed, ie grant all citizens their natural right to be with whomever they want, not changing minor wordings in preexisting legislation.

And btw, it's illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexuality here, but there's still "gay bashing", so if you honestly think legislation will change the minds of idiots, you're even more living on a prayer than I thought.

The civil rights act is supposed to protect homosexuals and right now, the law isn't being respected by many when it comes to homosexuals

Technically, what Rick Santorum was saying he would do to gays if elected would be unconstitutional b-cuz of the civil rights act. It says that you can't discriminate or segregate in public places anymore. That means schools, libraries, public water fountains, public transportation (busses, etc), state and federal gov'ts, etc....even a public message board like this can not legally discriminate or segregate homosexuals. You can try to, but in reality, it is illegal

Hopefully after this election, we can get back on track and give our 'fags' their right back- that's right - give them some rights back b-cuz many people are continuing to trash talk the LGBT community

It is not right!

You need to get rid of any idiot politician trying to influence your personal lifestyle by voting that retard out.

Thats how you get equal rights, the question the politicians would then ask themselves wouldn't be "why should gay people have equal rights" but "why SHOULDN'T gay people get equal rights".

My opinion?

Vote Libertarian next time, the party of "mind your own fucking business" (quote stolen from someone I cant currenty remember here)

I get your thinking. I agree with you to a certain extent... I mean, it is a fucking shame that there even is an LGBT issue. In an ideal world, people would just worry about themselves and let everyone be who they are....

The problem is that we are not in an ideal world. Many changes will only come along through legislation. Do you really think if we just let the dice fly that all people would become equal? No way, man.

It was more equal for the LGBT community B 4 this election, that I am sure of......some people just can't move forward. I am assuming that when this election is over it will change and we won't have federal wanna-B politicians just trying to fuck shit up based on religion and hatred - I only HOPE that we can get back to a free country again! B-cuz as long as there are groups of people being discriminated in the USA, the USA means nothing. We need a leader who wants to champion gay rights in this country! We need a gay MLK Jr. to shed light on this crime of injustice! It is a crime. It is against the law to discriminate and segregate in publc places - 1 day, the LGBT's will come back and they will demand rights

No no, stop the "championing" because it clearly doesn't work.

You need candidates who arnt interested in how you choose to live your life and amend all flawed legislation to reflect this.

Libertarian FTW.

Dude. It just doesn't work like that...
During the 80s and 90s equality for african americans made advances... also in the 80s and 90s, ron paul was spreading ghost written racist newsletters.
your idea is over simplified and flawed.

Read the libertarian platform.... compare to Ron Paul.... Ron Paul is a libertarian. Just like GJ, they run as Republicans but are not.

You know one thing though... Libertarians will get you privatized federal prisons well before Marijuana legalization... Then you get less regulation... between alcohol and private prison lobbyists, you'll probably never see legalization of marijuana, as it will be too profitable for lobbyists to let it happen.

Check out what happened in NM when GJ privatized the prisons... I wonder if his "surplus" accounts for all the lawsuits prisoners are bringing against the state right now. Obviously, a libertarian would probably bring tort reform to solve that issue... Shit, this guy alone got 22 million ... He didn't even get a trial... that's one way to cut spending... http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/01/25/10233835-man-spends-2-years-in-solitary-after-dwi-arrest..
Private law enforcement... imagine that. Private fire department... jesus.

I'm pro GJ in a few ways (:bigjoint:). But privatized prisons.... fucking terrible idea. Some things are not meant to turn a profit. one thing is for sure... if libertarians had their way... the industry of privatized prisons would explode... looking for inmates to make cash and armed with lobbyists to make sure that they keep coming. If you wrap up peoples investments in how much money you can make off prisoners, AND how many people break the law... fucking trouble for you and me. Shareholders would scream for cheaper everything in prisons and more prisoners. I don't know how cases of people being wrongly convicted could go anywhere but up. It already happens way too often.

Private prisons need to be outlawed
Corrections Corporation of America (CXW)... when they go into a contract with a state there is a clause saying that the prison has to remain at least 90% full at all times.

Then there is GEO group, Community Education Centers, Management and Training Corporation, etc...

Gary Johnson made CXW a lot of money as Governor of New Mexico. Any other libertarian would want the same.

The issue is personal liberties and civil rights for gay people, not private prisons...do try keep up.

So, the first openly gay Senator was elected tonight, a Democrat. The first President to openly support same sex marriage spoke out this year, a Democrat. But you think reversing legislation in favor of rights for lgbt by a Libertarian will help the cause? And privatizing prisons is not an issue to worry about?
You're delusional, man.
