I didn't consider your addenda because they have been with us (probably) since the last ice age ended. I'm assuming that in his quest to re-experience Walden, Farfenugen would not exclude old (pre-Bronze Age!) tech like that.

I otoh am quite enamored of tech that was unknown before the Industrial Revolution and its societal consequences. I'll add telephones to the list, and ambulances. cn

I think the next step in human evolution is our choice, we hold the key to unlock the door. I think the first step is when everyone can come to terms with absurdity, and still find enough meaning in ourselves to continue to live. I think once/if this step is made on a mass scale, the sudden realization of what we have been doing to ourselves and our planet will hit us, and hit hard. If we could only understand the absurdity of the human condition, i think we would finally make the step we should have been making a long time ago to help everyone in the world be healthy, have a place to sleep, food to eat, clean water to drink for everyone. This is all possable and more, but everyone is so worried about what to believe, its like we are all still children, its like the human race is in its child stage, arguing and fighting over things that hold no relevance over what is actually important in the world.

I would love to feel the same way, but, I feel like this is not addressing the "greed" element.

I mean is greed irrational? I don't think it is.

...I've heard a bit about it, and I think this one I will actually watch! To be honest, I haven't seen a new movie in almost 8 or so years. Just the animated ones, those I'll always watch

I see every new Pixar in theater. I went to this one because my daughter was in an adolescent tizzy of anticipation. She's a Ridley Scott/H.R. Giger fan. A coupla years ago I got her a book of Giger's design drawings for the 1979 original. We were both impressed to see some of Giger's studies for intermediate forms being nicely executed in CGI. Imo the movie is as much fun on the big screen as Avatar, but it's truly at the limit of my tolerance for horror. At least it ain't Saw. cn
