The LED Plunge- What's ideal!?!

If you are jonesing for a Blackstar, FIRST, email them. Their veg/clone product info is all wrong- it's for a flower LED. Assuming they straighten that out, consider getting oen of them and supplementing it during flower with a 600-740

Thank you for the input. Blackstar will now be my second choice as I am waiting for Cidly to reply about their Apollo 4 model, I'll post any information I can get off of them. Thanks again!
 
in my experience, you won't be happy with leds unless you spend thousands on them. They're great for veg if you spend several hundred dollars, but I highly recommend putting a HPS in there for flower.

eh..i was once like you...i was amazed at the price of the leds for such small coverage but they have come a long way in the last 5 years...leds > hids now...i have never grown with leds but i have seen led grows in the last 3 years that made me change my mind...not computer grows..real grows that i saw in person...in the fall i am going to take the led plunge
 
I thank anyone offering their advice and honest opinion. Though, I know not what drives HPS fanatics to persuade me. If it weren't quite obvious by now, I've already made up my mind for a number of reasons beyond "so much moar budz brah". Besides the quality factor of improvement, heat difference, and my electricity bill there is much more to be learned of LED and Mary. Documentation has quickly become a hobby of mine and LED is a great place to take experimentation.
 
Just make sure every LED in the circuit has a bypass diode, and that you have at least 400W of "real" power. In other words, if on 110VAC house wiring, it is drawing at least 4 amps at the plug. Manufacturers will lie through their asses about how much power is being used, often using the peak-to-peak rating (divide that by 2.8, or so, to get the right value) or claim comparative power, etc.
 
I am waiting on another response from Shenzhen Luyizhi Lighting Technology, I contacted them via AliBaba. I mistakenly asked for a bunch of incorrect things (lol) but I was quoted $213 including shipping. I'm opting for more white diodes as I have corrected my order and I believe they are more expensive so once I get my second reply I will post the information I get.

I believe the design is different than what I was looking for. I was looking for the Apollo model, which is what I sent the 2nd reply about. I have heard back, but just more questions.
 
I ordered from them, yeah there will be a lit of questions. You know their is probably someone over their shoulder forcing them to "establish a relationship with the customer."

I just got mine in yesterday. Seems pretty nice and well built. But DHL sucks, box looked like it went through hell.
 
I have placed my order for the above model and some of my custom specifications are as follows:

Per 15 diode module (4 modules)

I realize I leave myself open to criticism but upon sheer curiousity, this is the unit I decided to build. I hope to complete my spectrum with said unit and have a strong emphasis on flowering. This light will be used for 12/12 from seed and it will most likely stand alone til late flowering.

EDIT:The unit+shipping was 210 USD. Yea, 210. That's shipping to Hawaii. I think I made a great choice in where I bought this experimental light.

I think I got the same thing. Did you talk with Iris? The low cost really makes me leery but the build quality feels good. I'll see in a few weeks if it works.

You came up with my exact wavelengths? Interesting. Or do you mean the model? Yes indeed, I spoke with Iris. She was very helpful and answered all my questions.

That's good to hear. Apparently not knowing how to read isn't the only thing you're good at. If you listen to the last sentence he clearly opens it with "Under certain circumstances..." Please stop embarrassing yourself already.
 
Haters make the world go round. Someone small minded like marky here comes around every couple months and shits all over the led threads. I just shake my head and laugh because I know how kick ass my leds are and all I've gotten are praise and compliments on my finished buds.

On a lighter note, I wanted to know if someone could drop some knowledge on me and tell me how much power each of my diodes in my Apollo 4 will actually draw. The sales rep. tells me 2w actual draw but I wanted to know if that was an estimate or not, their english is not well you see... Anywhom, what information would one need to determine this?

Modular design LED
~136w (60*3w)
Current is 620mA
Voltage is AC85-265v
50/60 Hz

The above information was copied and pasted from an e-mail I've been exchanging with their sales rep. I obviously lack the experience/knowledge necessary. Thank you for readin'...
