Supersoil cooking question

I started day 1 cooking my soil in the garage with lower temps of 50's or so at night...and my supersoil started getting the white stuff on top (the good beneficials) after about 3-4 days... i cook in a big container with lid

so from my reading on supersoil, supposedly cooks better in HIGHER temps (70's..80's) so i brought my soil inside to cook. Now it's been weeks and i have hardly any white stuff on top...

Is that a bad sign? Or is the higher temps just keeping the soil from creating the white stuff? Should be ok?

ok...just making sure

i thought the white stuff was benificials and a good sign? how come i stopped seeing it in the temperature increase?? any ideas why?

As long as the soil doesnt freeze the microbes that are "cooking" the soil are at work. Exposure to constant cold temps wont kill your SS but it may slow it down a bit from breaking everything down within the 30 day suggested period in order for it to PH properly. It will generate its own heat through decomposition of the organic amendments you have added. Just let it sit and it will do its thing. I hope this helps. It should be ok.

I would say you are fine, mine is on day 23 now of sitting.. I dumped it out today and mixed it up on a tarp. I am leaving it on the tarp with another tarp over it to keep the moisture in.. Added a little more mycco inoc for the fk of it.

It gets about 50s @ night where my soil was too, I saw the white web within 3 days.. after mixing it I have not really seen it again.. though I plan to when I lift this tarp up in a week. >:]

I am getting all the ingredients together for my Super Soil. Problem is, I just noticed the required 30 day cooking time. I am doing a short veg period for my small cabinet grow and seedlings are 4 days old atm. I was only going to veg for 2 weeks and then do final xplant into Super Soil Mix. Obviously this will not allow the 30 day cook time. Looking for advice now. I have my Roots Organic, worm castings and epsom salts. Fish bone meal, blood meal, guano, azomite and dolomite lime will be no problem for me to get tomorrow, but the humic acid I am having trouble finding.

Kinda feeling like a noobtard now :roll: Anyway, I am coming to the conclusion that I will just do a modified "light" super soil for this grow, and just get ready to have the cooked version for my next round.

Since I only have 2 seedlings going atm and small grow, probably not a big deal anyway. RO soil and worm castings with some good amendments at the final transplant should be good for this grow. Any advice on what to do at this point would be appreciated.

There are no shortcuts to super soil. At least in the main recipe. How big are your pots? And you also should be aware that roots is running hot at the moment and it has been suggested to go the full 6 week "cooking" process in order for your SS to PH properly. I am sorry my friend... I dont think there is a quick fix SS. At least from the info Ive gone through for my own research, not for subs mix. Good luck with your grow.

Well my super soil has been sitting for 24 days now ARGGGGG ! It is driving me nutts... I am just about rdy to use it.

good as gold; you just changed the environment so Mr. White Cilia returned to his place in the scheme of things. keep it damp with some water and a bit of molasses.

Purple Tangerine, Bubba Russian & Sweet Tooth.. I also have 1x Sacramento OG clone.

I dunno if patience will prevail.. I might have to use 1 pot of SS anyday now to provide room for others in veg. The plant waiting for SS is in a 3gal pot, it is getting big and I am expecting it too droop and yellow any day now.. so.. I am waiting.. new growth is getting light green so.. I am cutting it close, using teas to feed.

I am using 10gal cloth air pots. I was thinking if I used a little less SS, like 1/3 or less.. I could get away with using it earlier, because wouldn't the roots take a week to get down to it anyway? for my 1st plant in SS i plan on using the minimal amount and ill top feed & use teas if that is too little later on. My plant going into the 1st pot of SS has already been vegged well over 40days.. prolly around day 60+ by now. It has slowed its growth due to its 3gal pot.. when I transplant it into its 10gal ss pot.. I am going to begin its scrog for 3wks then bloom

How does super soil do in cold temps when sitting outside? I plan on transplanting in mid-may or so, and weather in april can be somewhat unpredictable up here.

Nope. It will keep right on "cookking." Microbes never stop. Multiplying of the organisms slows down below 41 degrees. Anything above that should be fine.
