Soil Mix advice needed.

The supersoil mix is to be used in the final pot, in the bottom 1/4 of the pot, that way as the plant matures the roots grow into the super soil and continues feeding. I haven't had the chance to try a supersoil grow yet, just helping you get ideas. The fresh dirt will offer some fresh nutes but they usually won't last more than a month. So then you'll need some teas or other form of nutes.
As far as wasting nutes on males, wouldn't it be worse to grow a female in inferior soil all summer.....that's like not caring if your kid goes to school or not because you're not sure what he's gonna be when he grows up! o_O Lol. I'm only suggesting organic nutrients because you said you wanted to get away from miracle grow. I would think teas would be cheaper and more controllable than a supersoil mix

Since you don't know what's in the rich compost, there's no way to tell what the ground mix is losing. That said, I always add Cuboid Food, Blood Food & a seaweed manure to all of my ground blends.

If the run-off pH is in the "mid sevens" when using genuine, pH 7 water then your ground is alkaline, not acid. Green won't help alkaline ground. Always let water sit in the ground for at least an hour before gathering & examining run-off. Water that goes right out the end, the same period you water, hasn't had a chance to take on the pH of the ground.

I use Fox Farms Ocean Forest, and I add some Ancient Forest Alaskan humus soil, and some perlite, and some worm castings...I think FFOF has most of those things in it already, but usually more organic matter can't hurt...All I know is I want to roll around in the Ancient Forest alaskan blah blah blah...it just smells and feels so nice..

I think using subcools supersoil as a base for starting compost is a great idea...then you can just keep adding organic material and have some awesome soil amendments available whenever you need them...

I'm not a fan of the slow release organic fertilizer morovia's mix mentions.

I'd just get the Stone organic garden soil and amend it with fish bone meal, kelp, earthworms, a cup of azomite, a cup of epsom salt - mix it into the holes you've dug and let it sit there while your plants start up. That way when you transplant it shouldn't be so hot. Don't forget to blend in some of your clayey topsoil for your microherd. If your soil is like mud, then you might want to add some pearlite to it.

Squirrels are a bitch. They will be less likely to dig through the roots if the location is wide open - more birds of prey are visible. When you try and grow in the forest, you kind of get fucked by the squirrels. They will dig a few holes right around the base of the plant - totally uprooting it. Morning pee and that nasty hairy gunk you scrape out of the shower drain are your best weapons.

with the list you posted , you have access to the best super soil there is.

you are not gonna need any teas or foods at all, you have plenty in that list. there is literally food in the air outside. not to mention whats already in the ground.

oh an pine bark is a lot more then a filler. yes its cheap and yes the more they put in the bag the cheaper it was , but thats not the point , its a very good soil amendment. it will be used as a base and a lil food an aeration for the microbes and roots. good stuff.

do you already got the shit in that list or thats just whats at the local nursery ?

i just threw this info in , you wont need it right now:
(molasses is available at most feed joints. its usually big 5 gallon buckets of it cheap. its used to mix with animal feed i think. its very good for the soil , but that is another subject and another thread. your outside with all the life so you wont need extra carbs unless you already have them laying around.)

your gonna make your own supersoil , its gonna be the same as anybody elses "supermix". roots organic , happy frog , ocean forest and all the other good mixes are a waste of time compared to what your gonna have!
i'll go through that list again an see what we can come up with......

My final pot will be the ground. lol. Will the supersoil mix work in the ground? I'm only using pots for veggie.

for the price of one of them fancy soils, i can fill your living room with base mix. peat, perlite, compost/manure. a bag of epsom salt, a jar of molasses, and and some worm poop, and your weed will be no better or worse than the guy who spends large on fancy-pants nutes. i truly believe that.

What wyteboi Said...
With super soil you wont need to feed any extra nutes during the entire grow, maybe just a top feed with a lil more super soil when she starts to flower...
'Tsit....
Two good mix's are
Subcools Super Soil (id go wit sub's)
and
REV's TLO

I dont know why you wouldnt like organic soil mix's...
Its simple, better for you, the environment, and for your plants....
All you have to do is literally water you plants...

They sell blood meal, and bone meal at home depot...

But your local nursery should have the rest like guano, manure, kelp meal, cottonseed meal, rock phosphates, gypsum etc...
Then your hydro shop will have worm castings...

go here and theyll tell you the local retailers of the products from Espoma...

I stated that the nursery has EBStone blood and bone meal, guanos, and earthworm castings. I was afraid my girls would get dug up. See a lot of squirrels, chipmunks, etc.. around my spot. Dug a up a couple last year, and they didnt even have bone or blood meal in them. Just miracle gro. lol. I also stated that I dont go to hydro shops. You're not reading man. lol. And btw, I heard blood meal can burn. How about just xtra castings in the mix for a little more nitrogen?

i dont get that either. all organic foods are time release.

any food can burn. including castings. thats why i gotta study your ingredients good before i can make an educated guess on what to mix with what.

the critters are gonna be more concerned about these mysterious holes then they are the food in the ground. you just gotta make sure all your organic matter is under the top of the soil. they usaually dig up holes just because there ground has been tampered with. make your holes early and put your dirt in early , that way the critters can investigate the holes BEFORE you put the plants in there.
collect a few morniing pees in a piss jug , along with some of that hair in your bath drain an spread it around the plant an keep doing it whenever you can. (piss will not hurt plant an will supply some more food for it too.)

the best way would be to cover the hole with chicken wire after you plant, just make sure the hole in the wire is big enough for a huge stalk. then cover with another layer of dirt or mulch.

alright i gotta smoke one an ill be back to take a look at your ingredients so we can get your mix started.

Thanks dude. Good advice. I'll fill my holes prior to planting. See if the critters start investigating. They only bothered a couple last year. Diodnt eat the plants, just dug around in there and disturbed the roots. Think it was a chipmunk. Holla back later. Let me know what you came up with.

So I'm preparing for 2012, and found a nursery right up the street from the crib. Couldnt believe it. After all these years. Its my 5th grow for crying out loud. lol. In the past I only went to Lowes, HD, etc.. Miracle gro, Scotts soil, etc........... NOT IN 2012. Going with the good stuff.(I hope) Well anyway, here's what they have. Stuff looks good, but I dont know where to start or what type of mix I should go with. I'll be growing in the ground. Already dug my HUGE holes. Took a while in this hard Southeastern clay. E.B. Stone organic potting soil
E.B Stone organic planting mix
E.B. Stone earthworm castings -x2
Perlite
1/2 cu. ft. of your existing soil
this is real basic. take the 3 cu ft of mix an put both bags of castings in there and at least a cu. ft of perlite. thats your mix. now take about 1/3 of the mix away because thats going in the bottom of the hole. take that 1/3 and add 1 cup of high N guano an 1 cup of high P guano and 2 cups of kelp meal if they have it. mix it real good an put that in the hole then top it off with the other 2/3 of your mix. ...... let sit for at least two weeks, then put your girl in there , trying not to disturb the hole too much. (because critters are curious)
it would be real good if you could go back an top dress after about 2 months. and it would be great if you could get some of the "living compost" in the monrovia blend. my guess is that the living compost is made right there at the store ? all compost an castings are alive but for them to label it like that , it makes me think its very fresh compost vs compost thats been sitting for a while. there is a big difference , just like worm castings that have been sitting.
either way you would wanna top dress with a very hot mix like strait compost or castings with a few tablespoons of whatever food it may want at the time. (an just a lil bit of mix or perlite so its not so compact.)

E.B Stone organic soil conditioner <--- whats in this? this is probably a great top dressing.

it will also help if you give the dirt some carbs in the beginning and towards the end of the cycle. molasses is best but any sugar will work. (about a tsp per gallon) if you want to get technical then cardboard is a good source of carbs , but it needs a lot more composting before feeding to the dirt. that will get the biology of your mix rollin right away. then let mother nature an microbes take over from there.

see i believe he was just curious. he wasnt there to eat your shit , just seeing what was in his ground. chicken wire will keep that from happening. (along with stan precautions)
