My First Grow - Opinions/Advice?

I've also now set the intake of the cooltube coming directly from inside the tent like in your sketch rather than from one of the tent outings. if the temperatures keep low there shouldnt be a need for another extraction fan hopefully

...when you put the carbon filter in your tent (top)....it will create a negative pressure and suck fresh air in from the holes at the bottom of your tent....you do not need any air blowing into your tent, it will be sucked into it.

Your plants and your setup look really good. Preparation and spending money on equipment is the biggest hurdle and you're already over that. I've grown Cali. Hash Plant a few times and Blue Widow before. The Hash plant is a big yielder of dense orange haired buds with a unique citrus taste and heavy Afghani influence. The Blue Widow is a very potent smelling "blue" strain with a heavy Sativa influence. The only way I can describe it is if blue had a smell, it would smell like blue widow. When it buds, it smells like blue flavored candy. That plant will get very tall I bet you. Congratulations on getting your grow setup and entering the wonderful world of growing your own medicine.

Thanks for the replies and the information on the plants :) cant wait for harvest! :D

the plants are looking much healthier, they dont seem to be suffering from heat stress and are growing at an incredible rate now.. there are stems growing from everywhere! :) does anyone know more or less how much i can expect to harvest from 4 plants if they continue to grow healthily. I've also resumed the nutrients, starting them off on a half dose for a couple of weeks of Canna Terra Vega then ill step it up to a full dose.

One other question, how exactly do i know when to switch to 12/12 lightinng to begin flowering? i was hoping the plants would reach a hight of about 1.5m by the time they are ready for harvest, do i just litterally switch to 12/12 a bit before reaching my desired height (to alow space to grow when flowring), swap in my 400W HPS, start with the Canna Terra Flor nutrients and watch the magic happen? or is there an ideal height for each plant to be harvested at?

Thanks all!

...you can flip your plants into flowering whenever you'd like...your ladies will grow 2-3 times larger than their present size during flowering....it is said that, if everything goes 'okay' during your grow, you can expect 1/2 a gram per watt of HID used, and an experienced grower could get upto 1 gram per watt of HID used (I've gotten more than the 1 gram per watt and less than the 1/2 per watt both, so nothing is in stone)....as long as the footprint of your 400 is filled, you should pull a minimum of 200 grams but could get upto 400 grams, there's alot of variations and it's really impossible to guess a yield...this is just a 'ball park' estimation for ya. :leaf:

When you say the plants grow 2-3 times during the flowering stage, do you mean in actual size and height of the plant, or in mass from the buds? Also, say i want to reach a height of about 1.5m per plant, how long before it reaches that height would i have to switch the lighting to 12/12 to ensure it dosent grow over my desired height?

Thanks!

...2/3 times larger in height...a sativia dominate plant will grow even larger sometimes.
...what strain are you growing?...with a 50/50 (indica/sativa), if you flip them at 50 cm tall, they should stretch to be about 1.5 m....they'll stop growing in height around weeks # 3/4....if your working with a sativia dominate strain, they can stretch up until week #6 (or even longer)

Thanks for the reply. I'm growing 4 different strains, but they are mostly Indicas apart from the moby dick which is a 50/50 hybrid. Below is information on the plants:

Dinafem California Hash plant: http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/dinafem-seeds-california-hash-plant/prod_48.html
Dinafem Blue Widow: http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/dinafem-seeds-blue-widow/prod_47.html
Dinafem Moby Dick: http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/dinafem-seeds-moby-dick/prod_1082.html
Dinafem Sweet Deep Grapefruit: http://www.cannabis-seeds-bank.co.uk/dinafem-seeds-sweet-deep-grapefruit/prod_1553.html

Its been a week since i took the last photos so i thought i would post some new ones along side with the aproximate measurements of them.

California Hash Plant (bottom right in the photo with them all together) : 20-25cm
Sweet deep grapefruit (top left): 30-35cm
Moby Dick (bottom left): 30-35cm
Blue Widow (top right): 25-30cm

The leaves are slightly curled on some of the plants due to just being watered.

Thanks for the help :bigjoint:

Ive just made and installed a scrog, ill post some new pics in a few days. They are growing 1/2 - 1 inch a day now :)

Im just a bit concerned with the california hash plant as it seems to be growing at a much slower rate to the rest of the plants and a few of the leaves at the bottom of the plant are curling inwards. I have a feeling this may be from when i was filling the pots with soil after about 2 weeks growth, i shifted the plant slightly as it was not in the center and may have torn some of the roots. The new branches still seem to be growing healthily and it is still growing new leaves and in height, so hopefully it wont effect the plant too much in the long term

Hey all, as promissed here are some new photos. Its week 5 of veg

As you can see the california hash plant is struggling in comparison to the other three, its growing but at a slower rate and the bottom fan leaves are curling inwards. My guess is its concentrating on growing its roots back before it grows much more in height?

As for the other 3, they are growing really well and are showing no problems. I installed a scrog a few days ago, and was thinking as soon as the bottom branches hit the height of the scrog ill flip it to 12/12 and put in the hps, or should i wait a bit longer?

Give me your opinions :)

Setup

Blue widow

Blue widow underneath

California hash plant (I have it positioned in the center of the tent for now, in hope of speeding the recovery process of the plant)

Sweet deep grapefruit below

Moby dick

Sweed deep grapefruit frist signs of buds?

Thanks all! :)

Been a while since my last update, but i thought i'd wait until i'd flipped them into flowering before posting more pics. They have now been flowering for a week and a day, and are all looking relatively healthy, apart from the California hash plant which is still quite a bit shorter than the rest. I've also begun scrogging a few branches as they grow, tell me what you think! :)

All plants:

Blue Widow:

Moby Dick:

Sweet Deep Grapefruit:

Peace all! :)

Hey all just a quick question, I'm going home for Xmas between the 23-27th and will have to leave my plants for a few days. Will I be ok to leave my plants without watering for that long if I give them a good watering just before I leave?

Thanks

...you should be okay...in a situation like that, I would water your ladies then come back 1/2 hour later and water them again...no sweat.

Another update, when i came back from Christmas on Wednesday they had grown considerably and have had much bud development. They have now been in flowering 3 weeks.

Although the California hash plant has the lowest flowering period it seems to have the least bud development and is still considerably shorter than the rest, so I have put it on a box to get it to a similar level. This is no doubt due to me accidentally tearing some of the roots in its earlier stage. Other than that, a bit of heat stress which ive corrected, and a little leave yellowing from not being able to water them over xmas, I think they are doing nicely and can even see some of the leaves beginning to become frosty :)

Tell me what you guys think!

Just one question, even though they have been flowering 4 weeks now they still dont release that much smell unless they've been in a closed room for a few hours. If you touch the buds with your fingers they smell incredibly fruity and potent. As you can see from a couple of the photos they are also quite frosty already.

All im wondering is, is it normal and will it take a bit longer before they start really smelling up the house? or should they be fairly stinky already?

Thanks.

With four plants if you're running a sealed tent even without a carbon filter the smell rarely tends to leave the room the tent is in, if you were running more plants it would be different. Do you have a carbon filter? forgive me if that's been mentioned.
