Are my plants too bushy? Pics inside.

The title sounds ridiculous, I know everyone wants bushy, healthy plants, but the fact is these plants are growing in a space restricted 4x4 tent and they've always been short much to my surprise. (They are sativa afterall, but they almost take after indica a bit more.) In fact, I vegged them for about 5-6 weeks even. The trouble in this is there's so many nodes it's out of control. I think I liquid karma'd them out! Should I trim the leaves, hope for the best, or?

A little information: 1000W HPS light with a few supplemental CFLS hanging around. The light is relatively close, 12-24" I guess. Unfortunately my hood is smaller than your average 1000W hood, so that also worries me as much as my wallet. They're a little over 2 weeks old since the 12/12 switch. Running them in subcool's supersoil in 7 gallon airpots. I supplement with kelp, liquid karma, and cal-mag here and there and in small doses.

The second picture shows what I'm worried about the most; the plant to the north so to speak - it's got so many leaves it's a jungle fever. Do you see all those leaves fighting for light? It's nuts! I thought they'd be a foot taller by now too, but maybe the stretch will increase and open her up. I worry I actually gave them a bit too much nitrogen early on, before I threw them into the final SS pots, but they seem happy minus a little strangeness in leaves here and there.

Thanks all for venturing into my rabbit hole and throw me a couple likes and/or rep if you like my plants. Hell, sing to them with good intentions and I'd be thankful! :peace: Oh and the strain is Full Moon from Nirvana (the north and west plant.) The easterly plant is a White Widow. I wish I had a ruler in there, some of those fan leaves are gigantic.

Nice bush!

Sorry, had to lol. I honestly cannot answer your question, but I am very curious as to what you are growing in front of all of them that you can see in the first pic?

Nothing like a good old fashioned bush. It's a basil plant in a 5-gallon pot; actually it's 2 plants I couldn't separate at birth! It grows better under the MH light unfortunately, but assuming I clip the flowers off it keeps on throwing out new growth despite the 12/12 cycle. Tastes great too, nice and mild without that bitterness you'd expect.

Ah I see. I thought it might be some plant to help mask smells. I've heard of it but never seen it

My $.02 on your question is I think they would be fine unless there are a ton of bud sites lower that aren't receiving any light and you worry about that. The way I see it is that the more leaves = the more light they capture = the more energy for the plants.

Well it does add an aroma to the room - especially when it's cut or trimmed - but it certainly doesn't mask the marijuana smell. If I had more room I'd have more veggies and such in there. In fact the next cycle I probably will do tomatoes and such with the super soil, I have a feeling it will work great. (I'm not a perpetual grower or dealer or anything like that, in fact those aren't even my plants. They're my friend's, friend's plants whom I no longer remember his or her name.)

Thanks, that makes sense. There are quite a few bud sites underneath all that foliage believe it or not. Like I said, node after node - these plants simply did not stretch. At least not yet.

1000w HPS is plenty of light for that space I would think, your plants look great and I dont see any reason why you shouldnt get a grand harvest! Keep it up.

Awesome, thanks for the encouragement! I had a few minor issues early on, but they're really happy plants overall - especially the one on the left. The White Widow on the right has always been super sensitive for some reason, but it comes with the strain I think. The only thing I could improve upon is humidity possibly, and of course a bigger hood might help distribution of light a bit. Seems like so far the consensus is don't remove any leaves and let nature find a way. The only thing I could do is LST more, but there's not a lot of room to do so at this point. (I only did a bit of LST in veg, nothing major.)

Dude check out my grow journal, our plants look identical no bullshit lol. I don't even know what I did to make them into a bush. I was told that when I start flowering to cut off the branchs on the bottom not getting any light because then they are using more energy than they produce

Dude no bullshit fucking same story, I have one plant that there has just always been an issue with, but my others I just feed and call it a week. But I have this one random leaves are dying off but the rest of the plant looks solid and what not.

Also dealing with height, I was told they grow like an inch a day, im at 8 weeks veg and they are like a foot and a half...but then again I did top them both twice so that prob has something to do with it lol

I think it has something to do with the 1000W and then some of light we've got running in the 4x4 tent. The plant simply doesn't need to stretch, or maybe a form of less obvious light stress. Too much of a good thing - the plants can handle it, but they overcompensate by building tons of nodes and bushing up beyond belief. Most people actually -want- this, but the problem comes in during flowering when the canopy is covering all the lower growth. At this point I think the only thing I can do is LST, but again horizontal space is at an all time low. If anything I -want- them to be taller, which is kinda ironic.

I haven't had any leaves dying on me outright, but def some weird genetic traits - some mottling early on, and then some leaves had tears and small holes - but it's totally random. Happens on an odd leaf. There was also a bit of cal-mag deficiency, but nothing major. I've been using straight rain water, which actually has a pH hovering around 7.0 - so maybe the pH is borderline high, but I can't complain - they're growing and I see flowers. Hallelujah. Lol.

I looked up lollipopping briefly, but it looks like a form of training better suited in the veg cycle. I don't want to stress them out needlessly, especially since they're feminized seeds.

No lollipopping is more about clearing out all the undergrowth allowing all of the energy to be used on the big buds. I do it two weeks into flowering all the time. Let them go thru their stretch then snip all the little bs underneath. makes harvesting a lot easier as well. none of that little popcorn shit towards the bottom

Cool, I'll def look into this as an option.

Nirvana white widow, I used a 600w hps for 6 weeks of veg, then switched to a 600w MH light to get some blue spectrum in there. Bur I have noticed the verticle growth is very very slow. At what height did you switch to flowering? check back in a hour going to go workout

interesting, your lighting choices are exactly oppisite of most. Im curious as to why and how it turns out for you.

They were probably a foot, maybe a bit over, with plenty of nodes. I went about 6 weeks of veg.
