530 Watt CFL Grow ( Bag Seed Cup Grow)

I was wondering why you chose to go with 530 watts of cfls rather than an HID?
The space i have is real small. and an HID would really fry the plants. I have a hard enough time keep my closet cool as it is .. even if i do take the two small 65 watt bulbs out of the back.

A 400 watt HID will not put out anymore heat than all those CFLs and it would give you far better efficiency and lumen output.

I am not trying to say what you are doing now isnt great I am just saying that it is not ideal. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man !!! I didn't mean to sound offensive.... I'm interested... I hear HID was really the way to go.. and just assumed it would not be the route i could go for limited space.

I agree, a hood is definitely the way to go! Even if you keep with the CFL's, it would be a bad idea to go out and put a few small pieces of sheet metal to rig your own little hood.

175w MH aren't expensive at all, and would GREATLY increase your growth speed, as well as yield. (but honestly if your gonna spend that much, you might as well just go with a 400w √ That's a big o'l cabinet you got there.....be creative! LED's are expensive as a bitch, but that would be your absolute best bet for that spot.

Why does everyone ask this question? I have lots of CFL's too...and the answer is... I just did.

Why choose soil over hydro? Why choose AN over GH? As long as you provide light, water, nutrients, and air quality, you're gonna get weed.

Does everybody have to only grow for the maximum yield? I have CFL's cuz I like 'em. I like creatively wiring them into bizarre configurations to get a little more coverage out of them. I have fun playing with my lights and moving them around and watching the plants follow in interesting patterns. Will I get the maximum yield out of my plants? Hell no. But I'll get bud I can smoke and enjoy and all it costs me is a few pennies a day for electricity to power my lights.

And if you check my journal, you can't argue that I'm growing some healthy weed.

All questions asked are cool here.. I love CFL and you have a kick ass setup bluejeans !!!

I was always curious about HID, I just assumed it would be way to hot for my closet... it keeps my whole room hot as hell sometimes....

I love CFL's more wiggle room me i guess. I can bump into them and touch them without breaking or burning the fuck outta my self.

YOU NEED MORE POWER!!!!!! :P I saw a dramatic difference in speed of growth, as well as density of buds from my CFLs to 400w √√

Oh, I'm not really bashing... LOL... I was feeling frisky. I absolutely adore CFL's for some weird strange reason... I am an old lady and it is just creepy how excited I get over high powered CFL's... I nearly peed myself in the aisle at Home Depot when I found the 300 watters!!!~

I chose CFL's on purpose but I feel like I am always defending my choice...

Here's one for the coffers, though... I did the math and I can run ALL my CFL's, approximately 3000 watts equivalent, for just under $6 a month in electricity during flower. Since I plan to go 12/12 from seed for the foreseeable future, it really does make this an affordable hobby for me.

But like I always say, there are wrong ways to grow weed, but there is NO one right way. For me CFL's work and I like it!

Sorry if I came off as bitchy. I'm outta weed and it's makeing me testy...
