Homemade Under Current

A cooler as the control bucket? Marvellous idea.
I didn't come up with the idea, saw it on here a while back. And yes, it helps alot with water temperature. I freeze 3 liter bottles and add one after lights on, but for the most part the temps stay around 68-71.

And you didn't have to spend 300.00 on a chiller. I hate you.

Glad I didn't, thought about it, that was about it. Went 21 days without a res change earlier, not one hint of algae, or root problems. So it's working out.
Nice dog, i always liked Boxers. Nice grow too! That's a clean diy setup
Thanks, he's just a big baby, his ears are the best part, he misses nothing. This was my first hydro from start to finish, and it started out slow, had some issues in the beginning but it's coming along good now.

Hob,

I repped you and you clicked up a notch! Woot!

Anyway yeah great grow you have going here. I like your idea of doing both a SCROG and UC for your next grow. A wise use of your tent and would likely give maximum yield for your environment. I second the idea of using some nice seeds or clones rather than bag seed. You'll be very happy! Also, are you still using Heisenberg's tea in your UC? If so, what ingredients did you use to brew it? There are some variations to the recipe, just curious.

Also, let me know if you end up wanting to switch nutes. I would definitely NOT recommend Advanced Nutrients, been there, done that... wasteful and sub-par IMO. I used their most expensive Connoisseur line and was very disappointed. The ratios aren't right and you still need extra AN products to maximize production. I did a through comparison between AN Connoisseur 2-part, AN Sensi 2-part, and Dutch Master Gold 2-part and the advantage with Dutch Master is clear, both on paper and in actual product.

Anyway, can't wait to see more of the flowering progression. Cheers and good luck, subbed.

Thanks for the rep, always appreciate it.
For sure doing the scrog next grow, probably redesign the system for 2 pots instead of 4, but keeping the undercurrent technique. Working on the wife about the seeds, probably going with krisnarf on the Cannadential or Recon, really wanting that energetic high. Still looking if you have an idea.
As for Heinsbergs tea, I'm not having any issues, so just using Sub M & B, but still stretching it out by brewing it on the side with molasses. I add a cup a day to the res during top off.
Actually, I'm pretty happy with General Hydroponics, especially the Nova line. And the Flora series is awesome when the mix is right. Thanks though.

Nice man, very nice... I can't wait to get into an under-current grow, and this is a very helpful thread on the topic. there aren't too many on this site. cheers to that.

Heres a great site for reference, http://en.seedfinder.eu/ - and those two strains:
http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/Cannadential/DNA_Genetics_Seeds/
http://en.seedfinder.eu/strain-info/ReCon/DNA_Genetics_Seeds/

Those sound like pretty solid strains. Looks like the Cannadential is a cross of Cannalope Haze & LA Confidential, and the ReCon is a Cannadential back-cross to LA Confidential. The ReCon looks to be a bit more Indica-dominant, so that might be more closely aligned to what you are looking for, while still keeping some lovely qualities of the Cannadential strain (more Sativa-dominant). A personal favorite of mine is Trainwreck. Immense head and body high (not couch lock though), and OMG... its like time stopssssss. First time I had some, my bro and I smoked and I thought we sat there for easily over an hour just totally baked. Nope, clock said only 10 minutes. LOL! No exaggeration! Mmmm... yum.

I am also using the Sub-M in my tea brew, but not the -B, using Aquashield and Ancient Forest instead. I use it for DWC buckets currently. Great for slime inoculation but I was thinking of changing my formula for UC usage to just Mycogrow Soluble and molasses in a brew, since it would be all-liquid and no particles. It in itself contains everything we need for the tea in a preventative/growth-enhancing manner - endo/ecto myco fungi, other beneficial fungi, bacteria, and trichoderma. I love Ancient Forest but it is kinda messy to brew and still has particles (its basically dirt.) lol

Are you using one of those in-line filters on your return line? I see some people using them to clean out roots and other material that might otherwise get pumped. If so, how often do you have to clear it? And curiously, what is the purpose behind having a flow valve on your return line? Is it due to your buckets draining too quickly at full flow?

If you're looking into doing a scrog grow, I'd recommend finding a way to fasten your screen/netting/cage to the lid of your plant buckets, rather than something like a free-standing screen with legs. that way if you need to get into the buckets to check on the roots for whatever reason, or take the lid off completely, you're not restricted from doing so.

Anyway just a few thoughts I had after reading thru your grow. I appreciate the time you put into journaling your setup and grow and I'm sure the others here do as well. You rock!!

p.s. sorry for ranting. lol

Trainwreck? Will look into that. Thanks.
I actually ordered a pound of the mycogrow soluble for when I run out of the M & B, comes in a black powder. I hear nothing touches it. I think a pound will last me a while.
I don't use any kind of return filter. But could use one. Please share if you have some info on it.
As for the scrog, I have seen guys with the PVC screen attached to the top of the lid, awesome idea, thanks for the heads up.
J.B., don't worry about ranting around me, anytime you wanna shoot the shit, drop on in and talk my friend. Thanks for the info.

I like your system a lot. Nice build, buddy.

That's the only reason why I strongly suggest you plunk down 60 bux and replace all your aquarium pumps with this:

Switch to a round bubble disk for each of your tubs, replacing those small aquarium air stones. You will still have two outlets remaining which you can run in your control tub (might have to upgrade to bigger cooler). It sounds insane and it will cause insane bubble volcanoes in your res water, but see what it does to the plants. You can thank me later.

As root growth gains mass the flow control becomes useful to slow the suction down. I found that if you let it run wide open in the beginning you get roots clogged in pipes, uneven water level. But once the roots fill the space and form the shape of the bucket, you can open it back up as the flow won't drag a larger object into a small hole. If I could do it over, I'd go 2 or 3 inch pipe instead of 1 inch, and cut them like the pros do, at an angle. Thanks again for the info, hope this answers your Q.

Totally believe you on that one, I will seriously look into getting one. Tonight, I had to pull the stones and put a toothbrush to them to get a flow back. Nova is some thick, gummy shit. I see those pumps everywhere on here, they sound crazy in the videos too. How large is the one above?
