We all know unemployment is record-high.
Oficially unemployment is around 10%... Those numbers are based on unemployment claims, and do not reflect the ppl that have to do with a part-time job, while still looking for full time employment... people like me...
Thing is that I apply to 5-10 jobs per day. I try to keep away from door to door marketing, commission only jobs, or other scammish job offers...
Today i get a response from a pretty legit sounding company, from this woman... It was a very robo-mail looking message, but the introduction was personalized (i think)but the name and number come up safe, ripoffreport doens't have anything, scam.com has nothing on the company.... i decide it looks legit and respond...
next email message is where the RED FLAG comes in.... the message says that in order to complete the application process i need to click through different things, and sign up for certain services 'free of charge'....
here's the thing, I went to college, I took HR courses, and I know for a fact that a company cannot force you to buy a product, sign up for a service, or anything of the sort, as a condition for employment... it's unethical and some places have deemed the practice illegal....
point is:
if your looking for a job, keep your eyes open... a lot of people out there trying to take your money.
A COMPANY CANNOT FORCE YOU TO BUY A PRODUCT OR SIGN UP FOR A SERVICE AS A CONDITION FOR EMPLOYMENT.
EVEN IF THE COMPANY HAS NO PRIOR RED-FLAGS IT CAN BE OUT FOR YOUR CASH.
i'm good at using google to scour the web for information, very VERY good, and this company seemed 100% legit.
yet to 'complete' the application they wanted me to sign up for these programs from third party companies which had NOTHING TO DO with what is called 'essential functions of a job'...
I actually pointed that out to the 'HR lady', and she responded very politely and concisely, even though i was kind of a hardass.....
i have since lost interest in the 'job' since it's obviously a scam...
so remember:
A COMPANY CANNOT ASK YOU TO SIGN UP FOR SERVICES, OR PURCHASE A PRODUCT AS A CONDITION FOR EMPLOYMENT.
A COMPANY MAY LOOK AT YOUR PRIOR HISTORY, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND BACKGROUND.... they might ask if you've been arrested, they cannot force you to answer, that's illegal, they can only ask if you've been convicted of a crime.
I DUG A LITTLE DEEPER AND THE HIRING ORGANIZATION WAS PART OF A CONGLOMERATE ADVERTISING FIRM WITH ENOUGH LEGAL MUMBO-JUMBO SEPERATING THEM AS MAKING THEM ONE.... THE PARENT COMPANY OWNS 4 SUBSIDIARIES, THAT EACH OWN A STAKE IN ANOTHER MARKETING COMPANY, WHICH IS THE REGISTERED OWNER OF OVER 1000 DOMAIN NAMES, ONE OF WHICH WAS THE ONE THAT WAS TRYING TO RIP ME OFF.
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE... THERE'S PPL THAT KNOW HOW TO MANIPULATE THE SYSTEM TO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN...
