Colorado Dispensary

I moved from Colorado Springs a few years back and I'd like to return. I have extensive knowledge concerning the cultivation of marijuana and I am interested in opening a dispensary. I'm looking for a partner in this business venture that lives in Colorado preferably around the springs with serious interest in opening a legal tax paying medical marijuana dispensary.

won't be able to open a new one until after july and you have to be a resident for 2 years, which would be givin your partner all the power

you would also have to fill out sooo much paperwork, you would think you were buying a house. They want full financial statements. They want to know where you are getting your money. You will need a lawyer just to fill out all the paperwork.

Outstanding, definitely a partner that's been a resident for 2 years. I have no problem paying for and filling out any paperwork. I'm certain the process has been made difficult so that every knucklehead with a few seeds and a buckets can't open garage dispensaries. I've been around the block a few times to say the least and start up won't be the problem (least of which is paperwork). I'm just afraid of federal prosecution. I want to run something as legal as possible that will provide high quality organic hydro. That's it.

you would also be required to grow at least 70% of what you would sell. The other 30% could only be purchased from another licensed dispensary. You also would have to have been in Colorado for the past two years. The State makes it very hard to open a shop. No felonies. No silent partners.

Not to hijack the thread, but what about selling to the dispensaries? Does it require mountains of paperwork too? I've been thinking about this for quite some time, as I used to live in the Springs also, actually Manitou Springs, and I want to move back. I'm really most interested in selling clones and edibles.

they are not allowed to buy from you unless you also own a dispensary. To manufacture/sell edibles you need a license. Thats seperate. That will only cost about $12,000 for that one.

So, you can't sell to a dispensary unless you are a dispensary? Wow, I didn't realize that. What if I don't want to open/run a dispensary, I still have to jump through all the same hoops?
Paperwork aside, what is the cost involved in getting your dispensary license?
Is there a link I can get all this info? I have googled all this crap a couple times before but could never find what I was looking for...

Actually you cant even be a partner or manager without fulfilling the 2 year residency requirement. It's a standard for all key employees.
Wow did not know that. I thought it was only for the main owner. So can you have investors outside of CO as long as it is structured by some type of documented loan?

No, no outside investors or silent partners. All the licences will cost over $40,000 .
Then you have to rent a warehouse to grow your own crop. If you sell a pound a day , you will have to be big enough to harvest a pound a day.
A seperate store front will also be needed as well as room to process. For some reason , you can't trim plants in the grow room.
You can still be a care giver for up to 5 people , but a lot of cities are putting limits on how many plants you can have in a residence. 12 plant max no matter how many patients you have.

Does anyone have a copy of the state requirements for opening a dispensary? I do know that the 70/30% isn't in the law yet just expected to become part of the law in the Spring, regardless moving 70% and destroying or selling the rest (to other dispensaries) isn't the end of the world. Right now dispensaries are mostly getting small licenses for 200 or less people. growing 250 oz. With a 50 oz margin managing a grow schedule an keeping rotating stock should be quite simple, over the next few years the numbers of eligible and willing patients will only grow.

Let's say that I'm only able to move 50% of my estimated grow, I'll have 20k profit in my pocket that month and only 100 oz to get rid of (of which I can hold over most if not all until the next month, once cured 2-4 weeks in mason jars and my product will still be fresh and will remain so for another 30-60 days as long as it's kept in a dry place). I'm open to long term relationships with other dispensaries, I won't be making edibles so I'll certainly need someone to process my clippings. One month's profit should be enough to repay all of my start up costs. This is my American dream, I want this more than anything I've ever wanted to do in my life... I was born to grow. I have the business knowledge, the technical know how, and the will to make my dispensary the best in the state. Best not meaning the most varieties or the fanciest/trendiest lobby (I will have the hottest receptionist/counter help), but the finest genetics all super feminized no seeds, no sticks, and very few stems, but tons of delicious crystally goodness. I have more than a few grow secrets that make my 100% organic hydro plants healthier, heavier, more potent, and a 5 stage curing process in which human hands never touch the buds. We're all good at something and for me... this is it.

What's the deal with being a "caregiver", I'm a "careneeder" over here. 12 plants? That's not too shabby... 12 plants = at least 70 oz. a month at least... Which OMG Dadio161 I love you man, thanks for mentioning that... I can easily turn around in less than 8 weeks, If I can have 12 plants that makes life SUPER easy. 4 clones, 4 in vegetation, 4 flowering, 4 being cured at any given time. That's only 12 plants, but I would have 20ish oz cured/curing/dispensed at any given time.

How much is medical going for in CO? I'm assuming that asking $150 an oz isn't too much.

Are you serious? 20-24 plants? How much dried/cured at any given time? Do clones and seedlings count as plants? What's the going rate for an oz of midgrade hydro? Still require 2 years residency to be a caregiver?

So you can only sell to those 5 patients or anyone with a medical use license? Are the rules statewide or county to county?

Not a grey area at all, you can only sell to your 5 patients, and not for profit. This is all in hb 1284 with the fact they are giving the registry to the police so they can access it in their cruisers. The only way around the 5 patients is A own a MMC or B be the ONLY caregiver for at least 50-100 miles, and fill out a lot of paper work with the state.

What are the stipulations of "not for profit"? Does that mean I can only charge what it costs me to produce? In other words, if I have 5 patients, and I provide them 8 oz every 3 months, I cannot charge $200 an oz, I have to charge only what it cost me? If you do the math, that would only net me roughly $2600 a month minus expenses. Not exactly getting rich, but paying the bills, this is not acceptable?

FYI- For those of you who don't know, High Times is having a Medical Marijuana Cannabis Cup, April 2-3 in Denver. There will be seminars on how to open and operate your own legal canna-business, cultivation seminars with High Times editors Danny Danko and Nico Escondido, and lots of other things, including a party (costs to get in) on Sat night.
Just thought I would throw that out there because we are talking about the business side in this thread. I'm going, already booked my hotel, here is the site if your interested: http://medcancup.com/
