just wondering...the new set up i got i have had pluged in for 15min or so and its not starting the light up. never had a 1000watt so i dont know it the start time is any diffrent then a 400 watt? i dont want to wait 30min and find out i messed it up by waiting...so i ask u all...what do u think?

check the bulb, check the circuit breaker. is it plugged in? fuse in the ballast? it shouldn't take that long.

A working ballast will power up the bulb within 15 minutes, but you'll get near instant illumination, the 15 minute part is just to achieve full brightness.

Make sure your AC connector is in the right input, 120v or 240v. They fit both just the same unfortunately.

Make sure if it has a HPS or MH switch (or even an off switch) that it isnt set to the wrong one. Flower = red = hps, and Veg = White = MH

Does the ballast hum? Check outlet or circuit if it doesnt. If it does, replace the bulb.

You do also need to have a 1000w bulb with a 1000w ballast. If you try any other wattage in there, it wont work.

My guess - bulb is bad. I had one that wouldnt turn on today, swapped the bulb, and magic...........

ty for responding....and NOT calling out my dumb question. It does hum..and the hole thing is new just out of the box...including the bulb. is it common for a bulb to not work when its new..."damaged in shipping or what not" i havent had to buy one yet so the hole new light thing is new to me. The dame bulb alone cost 120 dollars so i was exspecting it to sing and dance. I paniced when it never came on. If my plug is rated for 115v... i should be ok for the 120 setting on the ballast right?

Yes you could have just got a faulty bulb just call up where you got it from and get a new one.

agree with advice here. it should come on instantly. try checking your settings again, and checking that the bulb is screwed in properly (and also looks undamaged). If the ballast is on and you unplug it sometimes you have to just wait like 10 minutes before you can plug it in again (if you plug it in before it's ready it won't do anything). Yes, 115 and 120 are the same thing. Double check the outlet actually works and didn't blow the circuit.

Bulbs can (and do) arrive non-working. Just like any bulb. Unlike regular light bulbs though, they dont need a broken filament or a "rattling" sound inside the bulb to be dead. Usually dead ones looks like like working ones but just dont turn on, like in your case.

Hope it works well out for you, new 1000w bulbs on eBay are like $30. :)

The bulbs on ebay for 30 bones are ment for growing? .. or just to light up ur yard? the light it would have came with was just ur run of the mill yard light..the one i got for sells for 120 is ment for plants.

I would call up where i got it from as you are under warranty for a year.So call them up and you should have that bulb replaced no problem.

The HPS 1000w bulbs are fine for gardening. Just because people sell them on eBay doesnt mean they arent meant for pot :)
