"Blocking light." I get so tired of hearing that. Roughly 85% of light that strikes a leaf passes through, a leaf will only absorb roughly 15% of the light that strikes it. The chlorophyll in leaves will reflect the green light spectrum. The human eye is most sensitive to the green light spectrum so there is little to none left to strike lower leaves or buds and due to that it appears to the human eye to be little light for lower buds and leaves to receive, but plants are not the human eye and there is light there in the light spectrum plants use for them to use .... unless you have inadequate lighting and if you have inadequate lighting the solution to that is not removing fan leaves. The solution to that is upgrading/improving your lighting.

I'm going to be buying 4 per 1000w lamp I have for under the plants. They attach in a chain too, so you can save on power strips
It's called the "SunBlaze T5 Strip Light" and they come in 2' and 4' sizes.
I dont know if they will yield a ton more because of this, its probably proportinate to the wattage of the units, but the goal was to have less popcorn on the bottom that is unsellable product and make it into something worth bagging up.

@Kitty I'm putting 4 of the 2 foot'ers in with my 250w CFL for my new DWC, they are sweet I have never used them to flower with though.

The info on that light says: "Includes 6500K HO lamp." That is a vegging light spectrum and the thread starter is concerned about enough light for flowering. 6500K is not what he needs for flowering.

All I have now is 6500K I have to shop around for some 2700-3000K.

Oops -- but an easy fix. They can be purchased with veg or with flower lights.
However, I'd stick to veg lighting not flower lighting for the strips. Then you get HPS and Veg lighting at the same time!

I tied the tops of my plants to some bamboo stakes today brining the total height to about 16" which looks like is the max distance you would want for a 250w mh according to the chart Bonzi Lighthouse posted, does that sound about right??? Here is a pic of what it looks like now with the lights closer, there is 2 250w mh lights, even though you can only see one in the pic

I kept my 250w only 6" away from a canopy at a plant that was LST'd down to 8" tall, ony 1.5 gal pot. They penetrate! haha. Im guessing though you could could get a good 12 inches of good light penetration. I wouldnt bother going under 16" unless you have side lighting.

yeah, I had the lights like 3 feet above the plants, and they stretched real bad....and then there was very little bud production
