maybe you've seen the bonsai kits in bookstore for 10 bucks..you know the one with a little book, small pot, and some seeds. at any rate, i can't get the seeds to germinate. i followed the instructions and nothing happened. i wrote to the company and they sent mem some more seeds, but still no luck. i'm down to 2 seeds. how would any of you germinate the seeds?

well you need to give more info

bonsai is a style of cultivation not a species.

is it pine, cedar, juniper, dwarf elm, etc??

id just go find some rocky ass soil and dig up almost any tree sapling under 2-3 inches, w the thickest stem and most branches.

If you are going to grow a bonsai tree, I suggest you buy a small tree to start with.

Bonsai tree care is probably the most advanced gardening technique and not easy to master. This is probably why the "kits" are failing.

I grow bonsai trees. I mainly stick to a few trees that do well in my climate and advise you to do the same. Weed and bonsai are nothing even remotely simular. I will not check this thread again so pm me.

If you want to know some stuff about bonsai go to one of the many bonsai forums, not this one. A good newb forum is www.bonsaichat.com I will try to enclose a picture of one of my 100 year old Japanese Black Pines. Do not try to "do" bonsai from sseed as you will be dissappointed. Buy an established tree from a reputable vendor who has grown the seed to be a future bonsai. You won't understand the reason for years. This hobby is not an instate gratification hobby...I sometimes wait years to have a branch pop out a just the right place. blah blah balhl_beb7341ce68a46e48adcca1fdcf57e43.jpg

That may not look like much to you right now, but that tree sells for about three grand.

I've been growing bonzai for about 30 years. All of mine were purchased as seedlings. Care and feeding is a daily thing and required for longivity.....Bonzai are bonzai mostly because of the small amout of soil from which they get nourishment which also keeps'em small. I've successfully taken cuttings from a full sized japanese red maple, rose bush and azaleas that were kept as bonzai and raised for years ......and YES, I've grown cannabis as bonzai, again successfully. They're no different from other bonzai except for the difference in nourishment. It's a fun learning process but isn't very practical for those who want a big yeild......
