Those heights youve recomended for 150w and 400w should really only be used as a rough guide, light height needs to be taken on a case to case basis, theres many factors, how many hours has the bulb been used for before, the ballasts output over time can change and decrease if magnetic ballast, heat extraction is another factor, theres no real set rules, you will need to judge for yourself based on some of the above factors.

I have witnessed buds 5 and 6 inches from the thousand watt hps and still not get burned. Of course the buds were moved at first notice away from the lights. On the other hand I've been in other ops that suffered major bud burn because the plant moved to close to the light. I have never had a plant burn't by any lamp in any of the ops I,ve setup. I believe in having positive atmospheric pressure in my ops. This could be the reason. Slightly more air being brought in than is being vented. I fix my 1000w/hps bulb 4 feet above the gravel from the bottom of the bulb. I mount my bulb horizontally. The bottom of my bonnet is about 3 feet 8 inches from the top of my gravel. I stopped moving my bonnet up and down long time ago. I skirt my table(3ft x 3ft) with flouresent four foot tubes to cover any shadowed areas. The biggest reason that less than 80 degree temps are recommended is because after 80 degrees farenheit spidermites start to breed rapidly.

sick dude (lordj) , its still to close, i installed a fan and a ventilator to suck out the air, the light i had to put way up, because the leaves where bleached but even with the light up there they still grow very nicly, what say you? ->

they are almost 3 weeks now, the start to sprout new leave between the "armpits", sorry bout the black bars guess the lamp is giving of some wierd vibe.

hm, i cant say exactly what size, but i've put them in a smaller pot first to let the roots develop better, i read somewhere. I also have some big 9 Liter (27cm diameter) pots in wich i can transplant them. But i dont know what a good time is to move them to the other pot, bye the comment you gave i guess now would be a good time? because i can also see some roots coming out the holes on the bottem.

oh one more thing, there is a thermometer wich i can attach to the regulater of the fan, i can turn the knob to select a temperature, but i have put it to 30 (degrees i guess) but my ventilator is still going... whats the use then of that thermometer? (its connected trough a 3.5mm stereo jack, on the picture above you can see the knob a little , so you know what i mean)

I have a basic setup really. My temps are pretty easy to control because my tent is in the basement where it is only about 62 degrees most of the time. People always ask about lowering temps. It is not rocket science. The heat come from the light so if you cool the light your temps will go down. I will add a pic too.

Thanks, bigv...62º temps explain your close lamps... I'm in a spare room and always between 75º-83º and had a bad experience with too close lamps. What's your medium? I went to Coco 3 grows ago and never looked back.

i had the same problem when i was growing outdoors. idk what caused it but they will just grow out of it. and start producing more leaves later on. my lower leaves on one of my skunk tuned out deformed and made me worry until the next few days where new better looking leaves formed. so dont sweat it just wait and water.

Reject, I think you should transplant now. I've found that the ideal size is around 4 gallon pots. Your 9 liter pots are going to be a little small and if the roots are coming out of the bottom of the your current pots, the time transplant is now. What medium are you using? If it's soil, mix it with perlite (70% soil, 30% perlite) with about an inch of just perlite at the bottom of the pots. Perlite lets the soil breathe.

Not sure where you live but ry to keep your room temps 70º-80º, humidity around 50%.

There is a wealth of info on this site; try searching around for questions you may have. I don't mind helping, but I've found if you search and read, you tend to remember everything a little better, plus you get a balance of opinion from some very good growers. Sometimes trial and error is the best way to learn. When I started growing a few years ago, I read everything I could, including these forums, for two months before I got my seeds.

thx lordj, these where the biggest pots i could find, so they have to do unfortualy. I use just plain fertilized indoor soil of about 6.5PH. I did do some research about the soil, and asked the store clerck if they hade something called "perlite" she looked at me funny, then i explained that perlite holds water and lets more oxigen in the ground (atleats thats what i understand perlite does), she presented me witch some cristals that do that same thing, salt like, and it said on the package that the soil would hold 4x more water than just soil alone... is this the same as perlite? because perlite is not heard of where i live (or i did not search well enough) maybe ill drive a bit further to a big garden center, they surely have to have it there..

i did read up on many many things watched movies and read alot on forums befor a even bought any material. But I am just (like many new growers) TOO eger and i want to know everything and go mental when i see something out of the ordenairy, me asking a question is more of wanting a seconde opinion to know that i am SURLEY am not doing anything to fuck up my crop .

runts can mean limited root space. mostly, plants grow vertically in proportion with their roots. if there's a major obstruction to the taproot it's not going to keep pace with the better rooted plants.
