It is in the genetics, you cannot make a plant do that
It will only do it on its own

in fact nature will do all kinds of strange stuff if it has the chance. the dna of every living thing is loaded with little bits of strange info that can surface at any time. under normal circumstances odd things dont happen because they are not advantageous, or if they do they are unnoticed. on rare ocassion something odd will occur and it will help the survival potencial and then that odd bit of dna will be passed on to possibly surface again in later generations.
