Yo dance, well it's all about taste and letting the girls use up the nutes available so as to not come through in the drying and curing process. Of course in soil there's always gonna be some stuff in there, but no worries. Once you decide to end feeding, and using your good clean water(you say it's been working, so why stop so late in the game?) just water them as usual until chop. And before the chop just make sure it's been a couple to three days so as to help limit your dry time a day or two. I have no doubts your harvest will be great. You've done a fantastic job with your plants. A labor of love man. Goodluck. Ok sinking back in the shadows. Can't wait for that smoke report. hehe peace

hi lurk, thanks so much for your kind words and advice. i appreciate it!

rock on! thanks again lurk. what an interesting conversation.

i guess people use the term "flush" in different ways. never knowing what to do, like usual i just took a shot in the dark and 2 nights ago i took 3 full buckets of clean filtered water and ran one through each of my plants. that's what i thought "flush" meant. i stopped nutes about a week ago and it's clear filtered water from here on out. i figure i'm so close to finish i can't really do much damage. monday is day 55 so tomorrow i'm getting them out and really doing a thorough check of the trichomes and will try to take some pics in the daylight. wont be long now!

Ya no nutes the last two 1.5 - 2 wks. Thats flushing :). And if you can run some a bunch of water through them like you did, even better. I bet those babies are looking sweet man, ya lets see some more pics. I'm going to try and takes some later today.

Awesome job Dance!!!

IS SARAH PALIN THE BIGGEST FUCKING NUT JOB OR WHAT?? Now there's an interesting conversation :)

Thanks again Cave! I'll get some photos today.

YES! SHE IS A FUCKING NUT! She makes me sick. :spew:

Oops, I followed that link and ended up arguing with a middle schooler. But yea I would do about 3-5 plain water feedings at the end. Not enough to bring the plant to near death but enough to get out the salts and heavy metals (shouldn't be much since you're all organic). It is very hard to gauge when to start the flush when you're growing out a strain the first time. It is usually the reason that my second batch of a new strain always turns out so much better than the first. The first time you just have to guess. I inevitably flush too early when I'm guessing and end up with a hungry looking plant.

PS: Palin is the antiChrist

thanks for the advice MJ. yeah, i saw your debate with the guy on the other thread. :hump:

all righty - i got the girls out and took lots of pix and will be posting some soon. just an observation about fragrance. i dont think my nose is all that accurate or sensitive but the vortex has a sweet sort of rotten smell (maybe like baby poop!) with a tiny bit of something musky and even a bit of pepper. it's really a nice smell actually.

i trimmed up the a-tain and i swear i smell peanut butter! ha ha ha. peanut butter kush. seriously peanut butter and mint and weeds.

keep in mind i only have 3 adult plants but the smell has really been minimal on both these strains compared to something like a kiwiskunk. i had three vegging kiwi's and could smell them in the garage before i even got in the house.

Time to post tonights pictures. I'm almost finished with my grow so bear with me while i yak about it.

This is the small a-train. it's the one i almost got rid of since it was much smaller and less robust than the other a-train. i did a serious pruning on it weeks ago just as an experiment really. i'm glad i kept her. now i wish i had grow her out fully. her leaves are nice and green still and she's been healthy despite heavy pruning. her buds are quite different than the big a-train.

here's the vortex. she looks good. no yellowing leaves really. the tips of her fan leaves are slightly curled up - which seems new and i think happened after the big flush but she's doing alright.

i like pic number 6. i was hoping for a nice sunny day to get some bright daylight shots but no luck.

so here's the problem child. the big a-train. this is the one that abruptly got yellowing leaves. i used everything the same on this girl as the other two. same water, soil, nutes, light - everything. my only guess is she had a lot more mass than the other two and she just used up her nutes in the soil. however, that's a wild guess and i'm skeptical. maybe it's her genetics.

who knows! anyway she's looking ripe to me and it's hard to tell but when i got the magnifier out today most of her trichs look cloudy, plus the pistils are turning quickly and her leaves look like shit so i think she's coming down tomorrow.

in the other pics you can see the line up of all three. you can also see the difference between a-train 1 and 2.

i'm going to take a look at the vortex right now with the magnifier. i think she and the little a-train need a couple more days.

That Vortex looks insane. The baby poop smell is good. Also yea mine gets just the slightest bit peppery.

Maybe the A-Train doesn't like the pH. You ever measure the runoff?

But yea the swell on the calyxes looks great. Getting close to done!

Hi Dance. Hey what did your Vortex trics look like? I checked mine tonight and was pleasantly suprised. Day 49 my Apollo-13 dom(Red) was 30% to 40% amber, Stretch was 5% to 10% amber and the two shorter phenos are 20% to 30%. Thinking that those two are Space Queen dom with Cindy-99 genes showing up in Orange. Oh, I also have 5 nice Orange clones going in with the next batch ( this weekend ) :)

Guess they start coming down later this week!

hi cave, i'm frustrated because i'm having a hard time seeing what's going on with the trichomes. i don't see much amber but lots of cloudiness. and thats assuming i know what i'm looking at. i need a fucking microscope! the buds are still swelling and there's new calyx growth and the pistils keep getting more red/brown. my guess is i'm almost there. i'm going to give her another day or two.

hey,

do you guys check the trichomes on the plant or do you cut some leaves off and place them on a flat surface? If so which leaves from where on the plant? Any advice would be appreciated. i have a 20 dollar jewler's loupe, i think it's 25x, but it's kinda cheap.

thanks!

just look at them straight on the plant

does your plant look like it just got snowed on? u can tell a plants ready by looking at it as well

lookin at your pics a few posts up your pretty much done, plant isnt looking as snowy, it looks like its starting to darken in appearance which means the trichs are changing from clear/cloudy to cloudy/amber

also your pistils or hairs or whatever u wanna call them are starting to receed back into the bud and arent white anymore except for a few

Whats up :)

I can tell you how I do it...I use the 30x - 100x handheld microscope from Radio Shack. Cost about 12 bucks. I cut a very small piece of a bud leaf with lots of trics on it. I take it from about 3/4 the way up the plant and tight to the bud. I use a small piece of leaf as it fits nicely inside the loop without touching the plastic. When I focus in on the trics checking for amber, I estimate the number of trics that I can see and count the ambers. Do this on several parts of the small leaf piece. It gets so that it takes only a few seconds and you dont have to be exact. I usually go by the top of the leaf as they seem to turn before the trics on the underside, but there always seem to be more and healthier unbroken trics on the underside. Not sure which is correct to use top or bottom, anyone else know?

Good luck Dance!!!!!!!

I'm off to go cut up my Jillybean now :)

excellent! thanks for the advice! i checked them out today as best i could and the big a-train looks ready. the vortex looks like clear and cloudy but not much amber yet. i suppose at this point i can cut them down now or wait a couple days and it wont matter too much. i'm going to get a fucking microscope for the next grow. maybe a USB one so i can grab pix.

i want some jillybean too!
