is it really true that it produces NO HEAT? and if so why do i still need ventilation? what are the advantages of a 600 watt LED compared to 600 watt HPS? im not taking about cost. im talking about the overall benefits of growing with LED.

Q. is it really true that it produces NO HEAT?
A. No! It does produce some, but it is truely insignificant!

Q.and if so why do i still need ventilation?
A. So the plants can "breath", they take in co2 and give off Oxygen.

A. With a 600 watt HPS, about 80% of the "light" you get is totally useless for photosynthesis. On the other hand (in theory, at least), the light LED's produce is virtually 100% usable by the plant for growth.
Light that is "usable" by the plant is called PAR light (Photosynthetically Active Radiation). Light that is not usable by the plant is just called "Wasted Money!".

But most LED systems really aren't there yet, i've done LED and CFL, and the difference i had was huge from the 2. However, i did have 4 shitty panels and was my first grow! :P So it could of been because of that, but tbh, i'd go with the HPS. The technology really isn't there yet on the LED's.

Sad to say, this has probably been most peoples experince with LED's - it was mine too! But every new "generation" of LED growlights seems to be bringing better results. Two or three years ago I would have said that the benefits of LED grow lights are purely theorhetical, now there is "some meat on that bone". I'm giving them a couple more years before I give them any more money!
