Which is more efficient with a fan, Pushing or Pulling?

Push or Pull? I am currently in the last weeks of my first MMJ growing room. The temps in my 2’x2.5’x6’ grow space is 85 -90°. Not Idea I know, in time things will improve. I have a lot of droopy yellowing leaves. I use soil seemed easier to me. I have a 400 HPS reflector light. There are two 6” clip fans blowing down on top of canopy. I water every 2-3 days .5 liter in 2 gallon 10 inch pots.
So, now it’s time for the second go round and I will grabbing a 4x4x6.5 grow tent reflective material inside with several ports for fan ducting. I will also be making or purchasing an Aeroponics system. I like the one RIU member Stinkbud has shared https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/116859-harvest-pound-every-three-weeks-3.html. So my question is do you think I could get away with running a 300 cfm fan or better and a rotating fan inside to control the temps 70-76 °until I can purchase the rest i.e., Co2, temperature controller, blower?

Acually you would be surprised at how well and quiet they run. They have good airflow. And if your doing a very small stealth grow such as in a speaker, then they are perfect, dont knock my fans man!

Reading your earlier post about pulling air through... I can't remember exactly what you said, but it game an absolutely PHENOMINAL idea! And you may have just saved my grow room! I will +rep you till the day I die! I've been trying to get my room temps down, they we're at 95 degrees when I got home from work the other day because one of my fans broke. I've been trying to figure out how to use this new, stronger, and bigger fan, and you helped me figure it out! I can't thank you enough! haha!

Pulling air is helping SO much with keeping the temps down compared to when I was pushing it!..

PC fans are suited for pulling through a system.

They can be used for coolers, dryers, and micro grows. They are extremely efficient and quiet, just not something you'd want to be cooling anything more than CFL's.

i have mine blowing in low towards bottom, and then higher up fans blowing out, to keep fresh cool air coming in and hot air near lights going out

:leaf:Yea i have the on my CFL's they work pretty well. And yes as you said they wouldnt work for anything more than CFL's.

pulling...

negative pressure is more efficient for moving gasses than positive pressure... example: the weather... gets worse as pressure drops ;)

im not sure what single effort was best for cooling but i used a duel fan op and it worked out great, i did'nt have a high enough cfm fan to do the job one way or the other, so i took two fans 80cfm's each and placed one pushing air into the cool tube and the other pulling air through the cooltube on the other end to exaust..i mention this because someone on here said it would not work because the cfm's would not add up right well my temps are at 78 deg. steady and my girls are thriving..so try different things until you come up with what works best for your application...Peace Pot Prosperity...not to mention the fans were home depot inline duct boooster fans $23.00 apiece so i saved about 80.00 bucks...

Temps are steady at 81.3 now! So THANKYOU DubsFans! You tha man! Temp went down almost 10 degrees and ALL I DID was PULL air through, instead of pushing it!

What style fan are you using?

Those are pretty weak fans bro, so it would make sense you would need two of them. Using one powerful 6" in-line fan would do the work of those two, but that would cost ya.

Its better to push the air... for example a human back... Its better for your back to push instead on pull. well its kinda the same thing with the fan.. The fan is best kept in the room where the source of the air is. Less work for the fan because it doesnt have to suck the air out of the tube more suck the air out of the room. .. Basicly saying when you add a charcoal filter to the fan you have to pull air threw that and push it threw the vent out of the room. Your going to loose cfm because of the filter.. Its better to push the air because the fans are loud so you buy dampning isulated ducting. the metal shiney thick flexable ducting.
Its just going to make the fan work harder to do both.

No, sir. You are wrong. That analogy wouldn't hold a water balloon.

Different design = different placement

For example:

Squirrel Cage fans = PUSH

In-line fans = PULL

I've never bought one of these but had thought about it due to the inexpensive cost.

The 6" Fan has 180cfm free air and if you have 2 in one line the boosted fan will have 350 CFM. I was thinking about placing one of these mounted right on the carbon filter with duct work up to a cool tube where another 6" fan would blow through the cool tube and out of the room. Giving you 350CFM through a cool tube, which is more then enough even for a 1000w. They're also suppose to be quiet.


Cost: $80 for both fans, which doesn't seem to bad.

I'll post it again:

Carbon filters work by trapping airborne particles in the pores of the activated carbon inside the carbon filter. You need to draw air through the outside of the filter (passes through the carbon) and then out through the internal exahust of the filter itself. If you can vent outside, do so, as it creates negative pressure in the room which can be used to pull in fresh air from elsewhere. You have to make sure your fan has enough power to draw correctly without too much of a static load as well. Open to debate I suppose(for some) but most would agree it's best to pull clean air out of a carbon filter, than push dirty air through it. Why? Because air that hits the fan blades that has been 'scrubbed' already has less particulants to stick to the fans blades, possibly slowing it down or throwing it off balance. If you PUSH the air through, the air is still 'dirty' and likely to contain a higher amount of particulants. Common sense, really.

explain why as well please
if you can get a negtive air preshure in your grow room. you will have fewer air leaks. fewer leaks less chance for smell leaks.
