So if I get my med card, where would I go for my caretakers card?
I'm gonna stop you right here, friend. The particular laws vary from area to area. However, I think you are completely misunderstanding the current situation with Caregiver status. The current Attorney General of California, Dan Lungren, is trying desperately to pull the weed from our fingers and shut down the clubs. There are tax laws and status that you must follow to the letter, and you must constantly follow the changing laws, because these law makers are constantly following you. If you end up making a single penny over the top of your costs, you go to jail.
Right now, in Los Angeles as well as other areas, they have put a stop on any new caregiver shops being opened until September of 2008.
Please Threat, listen to me. I don't want to sound like I'm being a dick or anything, but what you want to do is play with fire. I'm not saying it's impossible to become a Caregiver, if that really is a dream you have, but if you are going to do it, you should be researching every angle, not asking a bunch of smokers on a message board.
Like I said, I hope you don't think I'm being rude here, but it's true. Being a Caregiver is a huge responsibility, and you have to have a good head for business and numbers. For one, how do you get around paying Federal Tax for a product banned by the Federal Government? You don't pay your taxes, they put you in jail. If you fill out a tax form for selling pot, they can put you in jail.
Really dude, my humble advice is to forget about the caregiver thing, whoever explained it to you really did not know what they were talking about.
This is what you can do. If you really want to work in a pot store, get your script and go out begging for a job at one of the current stores. I mean, you wouldn't try to do a 50,000 sq. ft warehouse hydroponic grow your first time you plant a crop, would you? Get your script, learn the rules and READ, READ, READ. You will be much better served with a Google search than from leaving a thread on this site. Read the laws and get active in Norml and the ASA.
Figure out the local laws in your area, and then try to get together with another patient. For example, my wife is a patient, so we can grow 12 immature plants, 12 mature plants, and have up to a pound of marijuana in our home at one time. If I had a friend move in, it would be 18/18 and a pound and a half...get it? it's called a collective, and although certain areas give collectives a hard time, they are legal.
What do you need more than a half a pound of weed for anyway, unless you wanna sell? I've said that I have no problem with people smoking illegally, but I DO have a problem with people who buy from clubs and sell to non-patients. When they get busted, the whole program looks like a scam.
Just think about what you want, and why you want it. Being a Caregiver is a difficult and very risky thing to do.That's all I'm trying to say.
