What size HPS unit do I need for 8 sq.ft?

got grow room specs for us?
and my opinion is you pick up a quantum dimmable 1000 watt ballast.. that way u can run it at 1000, 750 or 500. its really three ballasts in one
 
id go with a 600 watt their the most efficeint lights out right now specasily with a digi ballast
 
2 1000 watters or three 600 watters. That is what I would think. I think 2 600s might be the frugal means, it depends on how many yu grow. I use 40k lumnes for a 4x4 veg, that is a 400 watt or a t5 8 bulb and a 600 watt for a 4x4 flower, but I dont cram the whole thing with plants. If it was all flower I think 2 1000 watters would be what I want. Tho, three 600 watters would be mighty attractive. I would def use digital, either quantum or Lumateks, I run lumateks and love them.

Why? What's so good about digital ballasts compared to the regular kind?
 
they really boost the light output by 30 percent. It looks like a lot more than 30 percent. I remember when I switched from mag to digi and the difrence was frickin huge! I mean it, man, it was like night and day. Same bulb same space, I was blinded. Also they use less and are more effcieint. I run my like crazy and no probs. MGS or M something supply on Ebay had the best deal.
 
digi campared to magnetic is the digital is smaller, less heat, way lighter, soundless, and it is cheaper to run, its the newest tech ou their and right now 600 watt lights are the most effeint light more than a 1000 for the light output and energy consumption
 
hold on.. 2 1000 watt hps lights, or 3 600 watts? in a 2x4 closet? wow.. u cut the whole damn ceiling out and replace it with an industrial fan or something?

i have a 600watt in in a 2x4 closet with 2 fans, and the door open all day, and my bedroom will get tropical if i dont open a window to the 10 degree air outside...

Pricey. Maybe when I can afford an upgrade.
 
The one knock that I used to read about the digi ballasts is that some people said they break down on them a lot, and that they'll only take certain types of bulbs. Have some/most of these issues been resolved now, or are these things still hapenning?
 
you said you have 8 sq foot, whats that a 2x4 area?

I'd probably go with just a 400 in that space, unless ventilatin is good in which case go with a 600
 
oooo no shit i thought he ment 8by8 area... then just one 400 or like buddy said a 600 if you can cool the light
