Mylar vs. Aluminum

Which is more Reflective Mylar or Aluminum? And what are the reflective percentages? Discuss please

iirc mylar is 90% reflective and i thought foil was like 70%

but i was wrong i just looked on wikipedia and read this

The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%

so not really alot of difference but i think foil creates more hot spots, but i personally think unless you are using HID's you dont need to worry about hot spots

Lol yeah well said, I wasn't trying to tell him to use foil, I used it once until someone on ere told me to get rid of it so I did, Mylar is so much more easier to use and 1000x more professional.

Check this out, I needed to black out a window so no light would interfere with flowering. I'm kinda cheap so I used aluminium foil. It gets pretty cold where I'm from, so it was like -1 F at night and like 20 F mid day for about 2 weeks before I took the foil down. When I took it down the window was completley iced over, I guess it kept the heat from the house from warming the glass. In retrospect it was a bad idea and I will not do it again. I don't know if this would occur with mylar but that's my story about foil.

mylar is better blah blah but foil is usable if its all you have around. everyone talks shit about it but whatever its fine as long as you dont enclose your area with it so its a giant oven. i use foil and look at my plants in the signature they dont mind it.

its like butter against sun=get the mylar.,.,if u cant get mylar,go to home dept in the plumbing isle they have aluminum tape u should be gud 2 go

Awesome thanks for the info.. I have to drive about 45mins to get mylar, so i was hopeing that the difference in reflection wasnt too bad but i think i will drive the extra half hour for 10percent more reflection....Thanks again all

Aluminium foil converts some of the reflected light to heat so beware.
