yea they are normal how far do you recommend them being from a seedling

i have made that mistake before.
regular cfls are no good for growing and it does not matter how high or low they are as the sprouts will continue to stetch for the correct spectrum of lighting.
i done the exact same thing and my sprouts were nearly touching the sprout tops and they still kept stretching.

do you have any ventilation and what are temps. the cfl dont generate much heat. although if the temperature is already hot to begin with, that will do it. when a plant grows through different heights, it is subjected to higher heat as heat rises. its like they reach a heat barrier and stop growing, shrivle up, then die. streching is often caused be vast temperature differences, ie 90 then 70. very unhealthy. The first tool to any grower besides the obvious, growing medium, light and water, should be a accurate way of gathering temperature information

the temperature stays between 75 and 80 and yes there is a vent fan as well as a air circulation fan

Well, that's odd :/ I'm growing with something like 8 low temp bulbs and only 3 14w high temp bulbs as supp...and my plants are getting pretty bushy, not stretching at all due to light (one stretched because of something else)
