nasty buildup on roots with 65-70 degree water PLZ HELP

Ok im stumped my rez stays within 65-70 so i dont think its root rot plus it seems to just accumulate on the roots, underneath the muck the roots are nice and white.. Could it be from my nutes maybe. i use FF so i thinought that it could be the organic Big bloom but i also use florilicious plus and superthrive but thats it as far as additives.
Any input is apperciated ive been trying to figure this out for a couple days now and havent been able to find much else besides root rot info
Another thought that i had was could not enough air in the water cause this???

OHH SNAP!!! how do i check to see if light is gettin in will it affect it through the plastic??? i know theres none leaking in from around the pots but im not sure if the plastic might be to thin to fully block it would this cause that??

Empty the res and hold up to light.
I think that is your issue though...lol

ok cool thats the only thing i didnt think of lol.. so this should clear up once i wrap the bucket with black/white poly or somthin or should i treat the roots with hydrogen peroxide or somthing and TY mindmelted +rep

I had that issue and just gently washed the roots and scrubbed the res and made it light tight and had no problems since.

Forgot to tell ya to check your net pots too.
Hold up to light and look from bottom to see if you see any light.

im almost positive its coming through the thin tub walls because i have covers for alge on the hydroton that covers the entire pot and my hydroton is nice and clean but im gonna go drain and give the tubs a light check and i highly doubt that im not gonna see light through it just because of the thickness of the plastic.... Its pretty crazy how you can try to have EVERYTHING in control and accounted for and one small thing like light seeping though some plastic will shut you ass down in the long run LOL...Growing is a wounderful thing but definitly not for someone who doesnt pay attention to the less obvious details..

Light leak for sure, I just had the same issue with FF DWC. I did end up cuttin off the slimed out part of the roots because even after I washed them they stayed limp and brown. Sealed the shit out of the bucket and its good. Just be aware that if it is root rot, the absense of light alone will not kill the existing pythium. Rather prevent it in the future so keep in mind the brown stuff may not go away so keep an eye on it.

Also use hygrozyme to help prevent and repair root rot.

/sigh......Yeah 99.9% sure it was light lol a ridiculous amount of light was getting in. I knew light wasnt supposed to hit you res but it just didnt click how thin the plastic walls really are.. Fixed now rinsed all the brown shit off the roots changed the water and covered the tubs & lids with black/white poly....

Ill post back in a couple days with a "root status update" lol

At least i didnt kill my plants over a bonehead mistake, thats why i love this forum

Dude is using organic nutes, so you cant use h2o2 with it. In DWC you almost have to add something to the tank to keep away root rot.

And FYI most of the successful growers on the DWC and Bubbleponics threads use hygrozyme.

i was waiting for someone to point that out...

i use hygrozyme all the time, just watch pH closely after adding it in response to existing problems - all that dead organic crap breaks down quickly with the introduction of concentrated enzymes and that can cause pH to spike.

Yeah im gonna pick some hygrozyme up tomarrow, that seems like the only way to get rid of the existing pythium because it has already reaccumulated some on the roots that i cleaned off as Bigbrew said, not as bad as it was tho.
So how long should hygrozyme stay in your res? or does it only mess with Ph and whatnot when its cleaning stuff up and then when its in nice healthy water it just prevents?

Once the root rot is cleared up the ph will stabilize. It should take about 4 -5 days for it to clean up the root rot, maybe more. Im still debating which method is better, just cutting the infected areas off and treating, or treating the infected roots. I guess it depends on how bad it is. Anyone have an opinion on when enough is enough and just chop em? The plant lives but it stunted for a couple weeks while regrowing roots.
