i juss got my aerogarden in the mail today i have got the pro 200 because of the 24h light sicle n the longer arm. im germinating 2 seeds right now and all the other 5 sites are covered wit black electric tape to keep the light out. i read here that for the 1st 2 weeks i should use no nutes so im germinating them in pure water. if anybody has any tips id love to hear them as this is pretty much my 1st grow along with 2 other planst i have in dirt that are a lil more than 2 weeks old. but i need al the help i caan get wit this aerogarden. thanks ahead of time!

I'm just hitting my 4th week now, 2 days to germinate and I stuck them in the AG. One is at 12 inches tall and really bushy, I took off 3 of the lowest leaves at the stem to get better light to the plant and those leaves had a few brown spots from not using enough nutes. I pulled the one plant that was given to me since it was almost dead and roots started to show brown and looked like root rot. The other 3 are bright white and look great. I am going through a crazy amount of water now, I pre mix a gallon and lasts about a day and a half. Last night at 4pm I added 2 cups of water/nutes and at midnight it was low and added another 2 cups. I have had it on 24/7 and now have (3) 23 watt 6500k cfls and (1) 42 watt 2700k. I am thinking I will remove the 2700k in the a.m and add another 6500k. My issue now is they are getting really big and I will be putting the setup in a grow tent, but the roots now are going wild and I may need to cut out the lower half of the plastic grow thing. the largest plant is taking up half the AG. I may just put them into 12/12 this coming week and use (3) 42 watt cfls, the ag lights and a single 23 watt 6500k. When they do show sign of sex, if all 3 are female then I will have to come up with a solution for more space. The smell now is very strong and I am going to build a homemade airscrubber this week.

Put the plants as far away from each other as you can. Leave the level in the AG a little over the fill mark and keep the plastic covers on until they almost hit the top. I put my AG in a large box, covered the sides with reflective material and added some cfl's, after they reach the top of the seed cover use a fan and leave it blowing at the AG. I also added 2 extra air pumps and airstones and they seem to like em. Keep as much light as possible from getting in the AG, Get some good nutes also, foxfarm or general hydroponics(general hydro is what I am using+a few drops of the hormone/vitamin stuff at home base and a few drops of hydrogen peroxide). I keep the Lights about 3 inches away from the plants. Hopefully everthing goes good for me on this first grow, I have been spending alot of time trying to keep em happy so they can make me happy. Good luck on your AG.

thanks rotwiler, i have three seeds germinating. 2 white widow and one bag seed. i juss put them straight into the grow sponges wit the tap root facin down and the pointy side pointin up, is this correct n does it really matter? the bag seed is been there since wednesday night and still nothing. Should i let it sit there a lil longer or should i take it out and try to put inn a new seed? i dont have an air stone and pump yet that should be comin soon, hope the AG will still start off my plants specially since i hace 2 out of 5 feminized WW seeds i bought from nirvana ( witch by the way worked out great!) inn it. Please im hopin that i get alot of replays cuz i need all the help i can get. im a new grower and my only other experience is my 2 other plnats i got goin in soil witch are goin great (one with a lil set backs-"my 4 month old bull terrier pup sneakin into my grow closet and eatin most of the big leaves off her lol", im hopin she'll pull through!) but besides that i juss got what ive gotten from u wonderful peoples...

Hey everyone...newb to the aerogarden here. I read 2 threads including this one regarding aerogardening. I don't think I'd be able to do this without RIU's help and advice. I'll try to keep it short...I started my grow about 3 days ago. I'm using my AG for the first time using clones from my outdoor mother "Swiss Cheese." I currently have 3 clones in my AG. Couple ?'s. When, in general should I see roots coming out of the grow sponge; approximate estimation. I'm lighting 18/6, with pump set to lettuce 24/0. I only added the AG's germination tablets. Should I add a drop of "SuperThrive?" Thanks for all the help!

I am really new to this, but I would take the seeds that are not doing anything in the AG and stick them in a moist paper towel and put them in a dark warm spot till they get started. I had one seed at the start I just put in the AG and didn't sprout, all the ones I pre sprouted all survived.

I have been using superthrive since the second week, 2 drops.

Right now my Big problem which is good and bad is water/nutes use. Went to bed last night, woke up 8 hours later and I have to add 24 oz of water. If I go anywhere for 24 hours the AG will be dry, so I might have to make a larger tub and stick them in when I go to 12/12. On one of my plants the stem is really big, about as round as a dime and the roots now are getting larger than the holes in the AG grow tube thing, so today I am going to have to cut some of the grow tubes to let the roots get through.

I've had mine of 24/0 cycle since day one, and have the pump on 24/7 along with 2 additional pumps and airstones. All AG's have a different way they work, mine just makes some bubbles. Right now I'm using 4 Cfls along with the AG lights, 23 watt 6500k.

whats the airstone for and do?
The airstone keeps oxygen at the roots and reduces the chances of root rot.

Oh and almost forgot to tell you all that general hydroponics now makes some new starter medium like the sponges in the AG pods for about $14 for I think it was 25 of 50 of them and is the same or really close to the same material used in the AG ones, they are larger but they cut down easy to the AG size and you can get 2 to 3 new grow sponges out of each, so no more buying kits and removing the AG seeds. Just wated to pass that one on since I looked for weeks for non seeded sponges and this is the cheapest way to go.

Forgive my (most likely simple) question but I am very new at this and I need to know the basics to the first week of using an aero system. Do I just germinate and stick the seeds in the rockwools and start the pump? I am not sure how to get my system off the ground. Any advice is appreciated and sorry if this has been answered previously.

i have read alot of material promoting 24 hr light on for vegative stage vs the normal 18 hr on, 6 hr off. Any opinions on which one works better? and won't leaving the light on for 24hours stress the plant?

It's whatever the plant tells you. Alot of people on here say that 24/0 works for them. Try it and see how your plant reacts. If it stresses, then lower the photo period.

I have never used rockwool, I took the seeds out of the pods that came with the AG and after my seeds sprouted I put them in the AG pods with the root down. Put the AG lights as low as they go, they wont burn the plants and leave the plastic cap over the seed until the leaf almost hits the top.
Get some good nutrients, with the AG the nutrients go a long way, With general hydroponics nutrients I am using it is 3 tsp, 2 tsp, 1 tsp, so even a quart of each goes a long way. I use superthrive (a few drops in each water change also), can get it at most harware stores or places that sell pants. All three of mine have done great after I screwed up on the nutrients in the first 2 weeks, not a brown spot on any leaves and they look great, many many side branches and staying low and bushy. I did remove some fan leaves, hopefully that wasn't a mistake, between the 3 plants(1 is 12 inches, other 2 10 inches) and all 3 are about 14 inches wide, the entire AG is covered. I have removed about 25 fan leaves total towards bottom and a few in middle. I did notice after I do this the next day I get tons of new growth and the fill right back in, kind of amazing. I have the worst green thumb around and I think I am doing a great job with these. I am not removing any more fan leaves from here on, wanting all possible to take in the light. Yesterday I started spraying the leaves with a weak mix of water and eleanor's vf-11. I really hate to do anything else since they look perfect now, there is zero streaching. I might have to drop from the AG grow thread, I bought a grow tent, friend gave me a eb and grow, bought a 4 bulb 2 foot HO T5 3000k cfl light setup. I just removed the AG lights since they were almost to them, and now have 4 27 watt 6500 cfl bulbs in reflectors over the top, 1 2700k 42 watt cfl in reflector and 2 23 watt 5500k's. The plants all seem to be taking to this setup now even better and I am getting alot more growth. Keeping ph at 5.8-6.2 and temps at 79-84, 84 is a little much, but has been in the 90's here and hard to keep temps down, so I have been spraying the plants 3 times a day. Lets hope they are all female. They are still in the AG though, just not using the AG lights, I did have to cut the entire plastic out of the grow pods, the roots were so large I was worries the plastic would cut the roots, my largest plants stalk is larger than the bottom of the AG pod and I started seeing roots try to come up through the top of the AG. I have been growing them 24/0 since day one. Flowering is coming soon, I will use the 2 foot 4 bulb T5 CFL 3000k setup, 2 42 watt 2700k cfl bulbs in reflectors, a 5500k bulb and 1 6500k.

alright guys so here is an update on my grow. 3 of the seeds sprouted, one of the white widow girls is lookin great workin on her second set now. the other one seamed to have a problem because i thinik i musta planted the seed upside down or something be cause it looks like it grew upside down and it had to wrap herself around the sponge and now it looks like the stam is wraped around itself... check it out on my pics and let me know whay u think... ill tru to post it here..
also whats the deal on turnin off the pump once they reach the water? how can you do that without turnin off the lights?

1) The AG Water pump, its sole purpose/function, is to bring water UP from the reservoir, and drop it onto the grow-sponges on top. This gets water to the plant before it is rooted, and the water flowing back down creates a guide/path for the roots to find the reservoir.
Once the roots are established, all the Water-pump does is keep the grow-sponges soaked, which is BAD. This can encourage, or raise the risk, of stem rot and other issues. Also, since the pump pulls water IN, if there are roots they may get pulled in as well, and that's obviously bad

2) Simply plug the AG base, and the AG lamp hood, into different outlets :) That way, you can remove one or both, and adjust however you like. Buy a "Figure-8" cord at Radioshack, or if you have a PS1/PS2 you can use that!

I must have a different AG, all mine does is pump air into the AG and there is a airstone in the center of the AG.
I did read some info and found out why my fan leaves were getting so big, what I read is the more humid the enviorment the larger the leaves get, so now I am not going to spray the plant except maybe 1 time a week to keep humidity down. Larger leaf is a sign of humidity and is supposed to produce less resin since the plant doesn't have to work at protecting itself by depositing resin on the leaves. As much as I have messed up in this grow it is a wonder they look so good. I haven't even had to add any ph up or down and using tap water(is non treated here) and by changing the water every 5 days the ph has remained good. A couple more days and they should be 12 to 14 inches tall and flowering time, can't wait.

Does anyone here have any experience with Blue Goof, I seen a few posts from people in local area, but other than that I can't find any info. Wondering time it takes once into flower stage to finish and any pointers.

ok rot now im confused lol
so ur AG dosent have the water pump that pumps the water to the drip feeder? ur sayin it juss pumps air into the water and on top of that it came with an air stone in the bottom? i dunno if im juss confused or if what ur sayin makes any sense but if uhave a diff workin AG id deff like to see a pic of it lol.

also leova i read about the figure 8 coard in this threat and i figured thats how u accomplished turnin off the pump and leavin the lights on. I know the guide said to get a non polorized figure 8 cord, and i had seen on youtube how some kid blew the hood of his AG because he plugged it into a figure 8 cord. did this happen because his cord was the wrong kind? aka: "a polorized one"? lol
i juss wanna make sure i dont blow the top off my machine...
