My super skunk Hydro grow journal

Its been 30 mins now since I turned the fan down on the cool tubes, but its still only 23c (72F) in the tent.

I might have to put the cool tube fan onto an electronic thermostat so that it only turns on when the room gets above 25c.

Can anyone tell me, is 23c (72F) too cold?

Pic of my cool tube and fan, cant get all three cool tubes in pic camera angle isn't wide enough.

They work too damn well these cool tubes. I never thought I would have had problems with the room being too cold with 3 x 600W HPS lights in a 2x2x2m tent!

Dude I just set my 1000w up with a cool tube up in my neighbor's grow becuase all his tops were getting burnt to crisps and it works amazing! The ambient temp gets effected a bit still but its so much better than the fire hazard that is a 1000w light.

* bump *

Can anyone help me with distance from lights?

Yeah from the pics I saw the lights look really far from the plants! You should lower them if possible.

Good rule of thumb as close as possible so that when you put your hand by the tops of the plants it is not uncomfortably hot. A little hot is fine, but not so hot and dry that it will crisp them up.

For temps I think 25-27C is peak temp for growth. Any cooler and growth slows, depending on strain. Any warmer and you risk damaging the plants or growing unwanted organisms and bacteria, and growth slows.

Thanks. I just went in and lowered my lights by 1 and 1/2 foot. They are now about 3 foot from the tops of my plants. Pics attached. Maybe I could lower them even more? This has also had the added effect of raising the temp at the top of the plants from 23c to 25c, which is better.

Also while I was in there, I decided to top them. I've been in two minds about whether I should top them, so I just thought screw it, im gunna do it.

So I topped 4 of them as per https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/151706-uncle-bens-topping-technique-get.html to get 4 main colas. And I left the other 2 untopped.

But now that I look at the topped ones, I think I might have cut them above the wrong node. The guide says to cut them above the 2nd true node not including the node where the cotyledons attach, which is what I thought I did, but now that I look more closely, I think I might have cut above the 3rd node instead of the 2nd. I wonder what this will do? How many colas?

Ok they have recovered from the topping, and are starting to grow again fairly fast. The highest is at about 18 inches.

Im going to flip them to flowering in about 2 or 3 weeks.

Some are going a fair bit better than others.

The two seedlings in the middle i've just added.

Switched to flowering today. The biggest is 20 inches. Today is day 47 since they sprouted from seed.

Pic attached of the biggest one.

Its been about 6 days since I turned to 12/12 and all of the plants except one have shown sex.

I had 8 plants in total. 6 were super skunks, and 2 were bag seed.

Out of the 6 super skunks I only got to 2 females. And out of the 2 badseeds, so far I have one female, and 1 unknown.

So I've gone from 8 down to 4, with 1 of those 4 still yet to show sex.

The plants look real healthy. The male to female ratio is pretty average. You should still get a decent harvest. I just finished drying my last hydro harvest. Started with six ended up with three females. finished dry weight was just under 13 OZ. Good luck with your grow.

My three known females are flourishing, they couldn't be healthier! Growing 1.5 inches a day, very bushy and very lush. The 1 unknown sex still hasn't show any signs of sex, and its been like 12 days since I switched to flowering.

Early on I had a lot of problems with my plants drooping. I suspected over watering, then I suspected under watering, but after making changes to watering cycles, there wasn't much difference, still droopy most days.

The change came when I switched to flowering. On the same day I switched to flowering, I changed my nutrient solution to a flowering solution, and it was a different brand. The day after that, my plants looked incredibly healthy and have ever since!

The brand of nutrients I was using during veg was "THC", and the new brand im using for flowering is called "Canna Flores". I don't think I will use "THC" again.

Im pretty sure that this "Canna Flores" stuff is what has made the big difference. It seems now I can't do anything wrong, every day they look perfect! Nice straight leaves, no droop, and a growth rate of 1.5 inches a day. I'll post some pics tonight when the lights come on.

Thanks man, thats promising that you got 13 oz of only three plants, hopefully I can get near that.

The leaves are pointing upwards a bit in these photos, thats because the lights have only just come on. In about an hour, they'll flatten out nicely and be horizontal to the plant.
