Identifying my strain

I have random seeds that i planted and im wondering can i identify my strain by the characteristics of the matured plants?

u can take a stab at indica/sativa ratio and some of the background by leaf, shape, smell, look, finishing time, and hairs; but unless u show ur plant(in person) to someone who has grown the strain for a while that would be the only way to know for sure but highly unlickly

Thanks for the information, i'm actually hoping to create a strain from the mothers i have and keep it, can this, over time increase my chances of identifying the strain better?

If you do not know for sure what you are growing now you will never know what it is regardless of what you may cross with it. The most you will ever know for sure is that you have a Blueberry X mutt or Train Wreck X mutt or Cheese X mutt or whatever cross.

The number of known breeder produced strains over the years (decades) is near endless and then when you toss in all the strains that hobby/basement breeders have created and the accidental crosses that have been made through unintended pollination that have been passed around the list is endless so how will anyone ever be able to visually figure out exactly what strain they are growing if they did not know to begin with?

If it is a sativa/indica cross you would be extremely lucky to just guess the rough percentages of each in the cross correctly and then to be able to guess what exact strains they were to then be able to correctly guess what strain you have is just about mathematically impossible.

durgamata, first.......then chronic.....mostly because i can get those seeds......

i suggest getting The Big Books of Buds, ihave them and they have both durgmata and chronic in them (both of which look dankelicious)
these also might help determine ur strain because they have descriptions of a lot of strains with : smell, high, yeild, genetics, sativa/indica, and a bunch more info, good luck with the breed show us pics when u get her up and running

You can narrow it down a lot once you have the buds..

When you grow it, you should be able to see Sativa dominant or Indica Dominant. From there you can get the flowering time, from there the odor. Once you harvest it and cure it you can check the flavor and any other aromas that you may not have noticed before.

All that shit ^ narrows it down a bit, or atleast eliminates strains that do not fit. You may be able to narrow it down to a handful, and then take some good bud pics... then post them here, and you should be able to narrow it down even more.

i'm a go ahead and post some pics, and yeah.....i thought that i would once i seen the buds or actually started flowering along with some other observations(mostly what your saying)......so, i will see.....the one thing i know im going to do though, is keep these strains alive until i know if i truly can or cannot formulate their true identities.......so, im a post some pics and keep everyone updated on it............

Ok......so, im thinking that in order to identify strains, i should start from ground level first by trying to indentify the dominants.......sativa or indica...........

Sativa leafs are long and thin and are commonly light green. The buds are long and thin..........

Indica leafs are short and wide and are often deep green...........

What can be told visually is only general at best. Sativa, indica, mostly sativa, mostly indica. Even the blue and purple strains have enough varieties that adding in a unique color isn’t enough to know if what you have is that strain or a cross someone made that is only predominantly that strain or maybe just one very similar that you may not even know of and other people do not know of because it was never a commercially sold strain.

For example when the old cBay auction was running there were a ton of crosses by hobby/basement breeders that were damn good but they were never named so they were just stain ‘A’ X strain ‘B’ and people not only spread them around but also used them to breed with and then that was spread around.

I shared a number of crosses with people, like G13 X Bubblegum and G13 X White Russian for example and I know some people I shared them with made crosses with them. If you used bagseed there is no way to know where it actually came from and what it was actually grown from.

The very best you could ever do is to get to a point where you could say it looks like it might be this or that.

The pictures are kinda confusing. Take one picture of each plant alone or all of them together. I cant tell if the pictures all show separate plants or multiple pictures of the same plant or what.

Well it looks like a 60/40 indica strain.
Key features for your strain:
1. The leaf core where the individual leaflets connect is white.
2. The Stems leading to the leaf are light green indication little if any purple lineage
3. The leafs themselves are a light natural green
It looks like it could be a white strain maybe, I'm not sure though.
What kind of light do you have them under? If your light isn't weak it looks like it might be a somewhat stretchy strain.

i use a combination of floros and cfl's, floros are 40 watt(two units in the beginning, now only one unit), cfl(one around 20 watts), and a regular 60 watt bulb(because i broke my other cfls, i know, but i do what i have to do until my money lets me do otherwise), i made the plants stretch by moving the light 6" away from them after they got about 12", it was easier for me to get the bottoms of the plants more light this way.....
