Oh crap, she's not on archive.org. Now I gotta go pick up a couple Vi...name your two most fav pls.

No, I don't remember that one. My parents had these albums. it would be great to listen to them. I still can't hear Bert Kaempfert without thinking of those early days with that wicked bass thumping through my Mom & dad's Motorola console. Damn, I think that thing must have weighed a hundred pounds.

The best one is the one I posted: "Julie is her name." That's the one with "Cry me a River." Great jazz musicians backing her up on this album too. Barney Kessell on guitar and Shelly Mann on drums. If you're still into vinyl, there's a 180 gram reissue that's to die for. I have it ... and it sounds way better than the original or the CD. Second choice would be the CD. Also, check out Julie London's "Calender Girl" ... its on CD as well.

I haven't been into vinyl for awhile but it seems to be making a comeback. I'll pick them up...thanx for the info. Ever listen to Maceo Parker (sax man)? He's got a great double cd out with heavy brass (9 piece) in a tribute to his old boss Ray Charles. Really sweet.

If I like the CD I'll pick up the vinyl too.

No, that's called an audiophile with discretionary income.

Lots of bands are putting out vinyl now. Only master tapes have a better sound and tape ceased production about 4 years ago. All the big musicians ran to gobble up what was still available.

Well, I'm an audiophile with discretionary income ... and I'm and old fart too.

By the way, CJ ... I have a friend in the recording industry ... the industry that is reissuing the great recordings on audiophile 180 gram and 200 gram vinyl records. He has this habit of making a CD directly off of the master tape ... and somehow, they seem to end up in my collection. Think Beatles, Beachboys, Buddy Guy, Joan Baez, Sinatra, Elvis, Torme, Julie London, June Christy, lots of Blue Note jazz reissues too, among others ... and lots of the great classical recordings too. Its just like playing master tapes ... and on my high-end system, to die for. Gotta love it!

Vinyl and vacuum tubes rule!

Very, Very true. Sad to see it go.
Well I'll be damned. We agree on something!

Actually, vinyl is on the uptake. Turntables are enjoying a VERY nice resurgence too. Check out the latest issues of Sterophile and The Absolute Sound magazines. They are covered with reviews of the latest turntables and both have excellent reviews of newly issued/reissued vinyl records. Also, audio manufacturers of electronics are making tons of NEW tube gear. Here's the brand I'm addicted to:

Yes, its expensive as all get-out ... but so's the pot I grow.

Peace brother Vi. There is something about that smooth, silky, sound of analoge music that cannot be matched with the new digital sound. Although they can get close to analoge with new digital special effects filters, it's just not the same.

Agreed.

No matter how good my digital playback system gets ... and its damned good, the old turntable still beats it. There IS a caveat though: In order to beat the best digital, you have to spend a LOT of money on the analog set up. Believe it or not ... we are in the era of multi-thousand-dollar cartridges, tonearms, turntables and phono stages (amplifiers that do nothing but amplify the signal from the cartridge into the preamp).

Like I tell the uninitiated, the audio hobby is kind of like a heroin addiction, except the audio hobby is more expensive.

PS: If you ever get interested in high-end audio gear and want to buy good quality used stuff, there is an auction site that's fun to visit. Here's the site: www.audiogon.com

10 years (hopefully) and then, I'll be able to purchase stuff like that...

The hopefully, assumes that Obama doesn't totally destroy the economy, and that is a big assumption.

Though I suppose I could afford it now, but I have long term goals that conflict with short term wants.

Tubes aren't gone yet but they are forgotten. If you want that great great sound but don't want to spend a fortune, get a tube headphone amp and a nice set of cans. With the proper matchup, you can beat almost any digital stereo at any price.

The ripoff on stereos began with the 100 ampers.

Vi...you're making me drool, and that is not an easy thing to do.
