When Do I Fim/top/prune?

Hi everybody.

I just started my second grow (https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/18270-4-pairs-sisters.html#post188751) and am concerned/worried about is FIMing/Topping. I have read and heard from numerous sources that it is the thing to do to increase yield.

I have read thru the FAQ a few times, and I have read thru my reference books a few times over, also... so I think I know where to cut/snip; one of the post in the FAQ stated it didn't matter when the procedure should be done.

But I am frickin uneasy about it... is it really no big deal? I though cloning was going to be hard, and it was simple... am I just needing to hit the volcano & relax?

The plants are on day 5 of 24/7 400wMH - they were purchased as clones rooted in 2" rockwool cubes. They are (2)Northern Lights (2) Pot Of Gold (2) Sour Diesel (2) Strawberry Cough

Any help will be much appreciated!
Mahalo!

for the best yeilds, veg to fourteen inches, and top, let the lats catch up with the top, and then flower. that's yeild ;)

topping, supercropping, fimming (sux imo :p) and pruning are simple easy tasks, i don't even use scissors, i just pinche the top till it pops off :D

I wish I could pass you some of the OG Kush I am burning...

Question: in your opinion, what is unpleasurable about FIM (I am planning on taking you advisement though about the topping/not FIMing)?

THANKS!

my problem with fiming, is that it takes so long for the plant to recover, it's rediculous. topping is faster, and can be done many times. i make bonzai moms, by topping after the second node, then topping the tops, then again, and again, and poof! bonzai mom.

topping shows results after a day of stall. fimming stalls for a weekish.

Sweet. Thanks for the "bonzai mom" insight - I am going to try this out for sure.

KP, this is similar to the thread i just started asking people to verify that FIM does really produce 4, 6 or more grow tips. does this happen, in your experiance? or is it just two new tips with a longer recovery?

So I tried the topping technique on the Master Kush clones I took, that got burned by Neem (almost killed), and replaced by the multi-clones. They were expendable to me... and I thought they were gonners. BUT DAMN! They are recouping wonderfully outside in the So Cal sun. Regardless, they are my testing plants for this. They're about 15" tall...

My cousin came over and walked me thru it. He grew at home in Sweden... I haven't ever seen any of his grows but he talks a descent game (his dad is a goverment scientist, and they grew for years).

Anyhow, I took pictures of BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER.

Did I do it correctly? Is the placement right?

usually produces four tops, but the two at the top lag, and the two the node below end up going dominant MOST of the time....

i just don't like fimming. i top mainly for more branches (potential new plants) i grow more branches faster by methodically picking nodes to cut, and doing just as greyskull illustrates. then i let them bush out for two weeks and do it all over again  .
