Yesterday's Mass Shooting.

Ime travel advice is always too generallly speaking and aimed at people ignorant about cultures different than their own. A month after the bushfires in Australia 2020 european countries still acted as if the whole east coast was on fire. Don’t smoke weed in Thailand or hash in Nepal… lol, right. The whole gun problem in the US is a genuine concern that specifically keeps us from travelling through the US in the same manner we would in many other countries, careless, unprepared, high af, off the beaten path and the assumption cops are ok or at least cheap. It’s not quite “stay on the resort”, and South Africa isn’t an option for us at all, but yeah as normal as it is for you to walk among people with guns, it’s scary for tourists even though they are rarely targets.

Worst thing imo about Luke posting his inflammatory anti-american feelings is killing potentially good topics/subjects.
Gif is spot on!

The European way of traveling on the cheap is a total dream; I picked up some guys (that I shouldn't have) from Denver literally on a jug handle hitchhiking French I believe..I could totally tell they weren't from here- it's the little nuances. They were going to Estes Park. I had medical shit in the back and was paranoid brought them most of the way to the main road that goes up there. Told them to be careful. I personally wouldn't travel the US like that or anywhere for that matter..there's too much evil in this world.

Our new evil courtesy of Social Media is not Real Life.

One of my daughters was lured away from home on three separate occasions and nothing I could do because she was 18. I thank God it was only other kids who just robbed her and she didn't end up being trafficked.

One of the guys I worked with was in the middle of the Midwest and accidental bumped into an older lady on the sidewalk. The lady's friend yelled at her, "Don't take that from him, use your new gun!"

Well it's more of a rhetorical flourish (and my view on guns doesnt make a ton of sense), but I will stick with my "any sort" being fine as long as it stays at home or some sort of designated place. I don't view weapons of any sort as anything other than tools, tools to kill stuff in this case, but tools wielded by man. I see the driver of mass shootings as being the individual and how they relate to the culture of violence we seem to love here in the states.

It would be fantastic if we could ban guns or ammo, it would be great if nobody had access to that stuff. That isn't feasible here, you can't go back, there are too many guns out there (and ammo) and it's so culturally ingrained that I just can't fathom it. Going with "just have whatever" is based around the idea of trying to fix what we can.
I don’t share your view on weapons being tools even though they can be used in many ways. Weapons are above all weapons, and most guns that cause the problem are guns designed to kill humans effectively. Unless you’re killing alligators or something it’s a weapon first. Calling it a tool doesn’t make it less harmful. While you might keep them in your home, the fact they’d still be easily accessible automatically means too many won’t do that.

The problem being a big problem or even seemingly hopeless is never a good reason not to address it. It’s a good reason to take drastic radical measures. What you say isn’t feasible IS the only solution. As long as Americans don’t accept that, innocent people and children will continue to die on purpose and by accident, and Luke will continue to call you crazy and in this context I genuinely never met a non-American who doesn’t agree with that. Can‘t have civilians walking around with guns nor build a small arsenal at home, it’s crazy, they’ll end up shooting each other. There’s no good argument for gun laws like that, just a simplistic interpretation from text that was meant as a means not another holy bible.

Protection from "the man" should be expanded to including protection from my fellow man. People are crazy here, as is evident. Big swathes wish to do each other harm. Our law enforcement isn't great in terms of being some sort of neutral body that keeps the peace, there is a reason the far right picked the thin blue line cop flag as their symbol. I think it would be a mistake to put your faith in them to protect you if you aren't part of their group, both in day to day life, but mostly I am thinking civil unrest type stuff. Along those lines, we have seen some nefarious folks get into office, I would be concerned about disarming the citizens and leaving weapons only in the hands of those the ruling group deems worthy. The example I would point at there is something like the gun control laws aimed at disarming black people during slavery, the intent was to leave them defenseless against oppression. https://harvardlawreview.org/2022/06/racist-gun-laws-and-the-second-amendment/
I preemptively refuted that point in my post with “All these supposedly good guys with guns create so much work for the police they could be spending on catching bad guys instead.“ and “solution to that problem isn’t arming civilians”. Most of your post is still summed up with “we need to be able to buy guns to protect us against guns”. The solution to mass shootings, school shootings, bad guys, gangs(?) trying to attack your home, and bad cops, and crazy people is not more guns. On the very contrary. Really, people are crazy everywhere, that’s really not american exceptionalism. Difference with many other countries is the obvious: very hard to buy guns, very high punishment for having one without a license or of a certain type. The disarming during slavery is imo irrelevant and more appeal to emotion, it suggests one part of the population wants another part to be defensless. Civil unrest type of stuff caused by populists is an argument against arming civilians and for disarming them.

You are very much correct the reasoning is nonsense, the solution to gun violence shouldn't/isnt be more guns.

We aren't starting from zero though, how do you deal with the massive amount that are already out there and that people refuse to give them up. Who will enforce that? How do you address stuff like the current law enforcement being heavily comprised of people with particular ideologies, in the club Q shooting case for instance that guy should have been flagged as fucking crazy and not allowed to own a gun...but turns out the police who cover that jurisdiction haven't filed a single report in 2 years. https://coloradosun.com/2022/11/24/el-paso-county-sheriff-club-q-red-flag-law/

you quit selling ammo. period. and reloading supplies. some people have large stockpiles, but most don't. within a year it will pretty easy to tell who is sitting on what, and deal with them appropriately.
"Who will enforce that?" state police and national guard units.

you have stricter reporting requirements. you have stricter screening for who is allowed to become an officer. you have a lot more training, that gets refreshed annually. anyone who doesn't comply, loses their right to be a law enforcement officer, anywhere, ever. anyone caught consorting with militia members, gets shit canned, and loses their right to be a law enforcement officer, anywhere, ever. anyone caught using excessive force gets shit canned and charged with assault, and loses their right to......
it's easy enough, the rules just have to be enforced, with no fucking exceptions. that will probably require a couple of sets of redundant watchers, that watch law enforcement, and themselves....

Gradual change is best, training licensing and insurance requirements for owners and sellers. FACs to buy guns and ammo with effective background checks, then licensing requirements progressing over time to a ban on semiautomatics etc. Gun buyback programs that don't offer full retail value, but a fraction of it eventually after restricting sales. A domestic terrorist watch list with no fly or guns for those on it and hate crimes get you on it, as does making threats to public officials or persons. There are plenty of constitutional ways forward for America and if not pack the fucking SCOTUS when you are able.

Works for retail..How do you shut down the renegade Gun Show? Australia @Lucky Luke I believe had a trade in before they became illegal..can't shoot without bullets and be the easiest..then gun powder will be illegal like large purchases of fertilizer.
