I've telling people to do that for years. If you use use tap water then you should know what's in it.
It isn't going to give you the info we need for growing plants however. If you're interested in knowing how much Fluoride or Chloride your plants are getting, they will give you that info.
A lot of tap water can be high in things that can mess up your grow tho still be well within ranges for potable water. I've caught many problems that growers post thinking it's a deficiency when it's often an excess of something like iron, sodium, manganese etc. Best to get the full lab report as a lot of cities/towns just post the dumbed down one that doesn't tell you hardly anything. A little chlorine, chloramine or fluoride isn't going to hurt anything. Offends me that they can be present so I've only ever used RO or distilled water then I don't have to worry about all those other things either.
