The only thing I could find in my area that wasn’t miracle gro was Kellogg’s patio plus. The only problem with that is I hear it is too hot for seedlings. My seeds are just now starting to grow tails n I’m going to plant in solo cup tomorrow. I need to know if it ok to use KPP for the seedlings or if I can add some more cheap ingredients or stuff like coco to make it “less hot” for seedlings. I plan on buying the higher end soils once I transplant from solo cup to 5 gallon fabric pot. PLEASE HELP! Time is of the essence. Thanks in advance!

I have no clue. I was just trying to find an organic soil that wasn’t miracle grow. It has all the same ingredients as Fox farms Ocean Forest for a fraction of the price, but I need something more like Happy Frog. I did some research and ppl do use it indoors, they just say it smells like shit and it’s too hot for seedlings. But, some ppl say they use it with no amendments and it works. I’m a beginner and spent like $70 on seeds and I don’t want to fuck them up.

Dang i wish i could be of more help i grow in rockwool so i would start my seeds in wool with pure water at first than a super light nutrient regimen of like 100ppm lol20201207_160411.jpg
But in soil i dunno i hope someone else can chime in :(

So here’s my problem, I spent the majority of my money on grow equipment and figured soil n nutes wouldn’t cost that much, but that shit is expensive! So now I’m trying to use the cheapest alternative available to me considering my tails are sprouting on my seeds and I don’t have time to get something shipped so I need to buy something locally.

What do u use as your growing medium for rockwool? Like when it’s time to transplant? And what nutes do u use for that and the price if u don’t mind me asking?

Could probably start in coco coir cheap. Should be less that $10 at the pet store. I’d use no nutes and gh flora series after a few weeks.

That’s what I was thinking. I know seeds have all the energy they need for first few weeks, so coco does make a lot more sense. But wouldn’t I need perlite as well? I def plan on buying the GH lineup fasho! But I spent a lot of money and now I’m trying to save so I was trying to spend as little as possible for the next few weeks for beginning the process.

I was doing more research and found jiffy peat pellets which are extremely cheap n basic to use. Does anyone have experience with those. Read they’re not biodegradable.

Good quality coco doesn't need any perlite, but a lot of people still add 30% because that's what they read on the internet. Careful with those jiffy pellets, I've had terrible luck growing seeds in them. Be sure you read up on rinsing and buffering coco if you go that route. Here is a good germination guide if you need help with that aspect, too much bad germ advice floating around https://www.mandalaseeds.com/Guides/Germination-Guide

Miracle grow works fine, don't believe the hype.

Is rockwool the same as jiffy pellets? I just read that forum n it was basically a kick in the nuts bc I’m germinating via paper towel method and they stated it can make my plant retarded ha. Where is the info ab rinsing and buffering? Is that easy to do?

Corso, I’ve spent a lot of time researching and watching YouTube videos and I’ve seen success and failure with miracle grow. I’ve just spent a lot of money and don’t want it down the drain and I don’t want to waste time since it’s going to be three months before harvest so I prefer to be safe. But just in case, what type of miracle gro would u suggest?

So if I was going to use coco, I just put in solo cup with holes and plant my seed?? Do note I’m a beginner and need clear instructions.

Ive used miracle grow Dozens of times indoors in containers and outdoors in the ground. It works just fine.

If anybody " failed" it wasn't the MG soil or nutes that did it.

Anything with perlite in it is fine, it's meant for potting soil. Anything that doesn't have perlite is meant for gardens.. Get anything with perlite.. Shultz makes a big bag Ive used dozens of times..home depot cheap.

Yeah that’s why I chose the Kellogg’s patio plus, it has perlite and comparable ingredients to FFOF. But ppl try to scare u with this hot soil shit and I’m a beginner so I’m trying to cautious and not have preventable fuck ups.

Can someone with experience give me a straight and clear answer to what I need to put in a solo cup for a seedling to grow properly that I can buy locally. I plan to transplant into FF Happy Frog after a few weeks. I just need info on what I can do now. Time is of the essence. Much appreciated!

Your kellogs will be fine.
Appreciate it brother! Now do u know if there’s anything I can add to kellogs to make it “less hot” like more perlite or add some coco in? I’m just really afraid to stunt my seedlings. I have read a ton of information but shit is so conflicting and confusing.

Btw I’m trying to like everybody’s comments but I don’t see how to do that. Im on iPhone

More perlite is always better..better drainage. Your seedling will be fine. Fox farms is hotter than MG, Shultz and Kellogs.
