sorry, cop.

find something new
You are literally retarded if you think I'm a cop or support the the criminal justice system the way it is. Policing starts at the top, and reforming the criminal justice system needs a top down approach, and throwing bottles and shooting fireworks at police while chanting "all cops are bastards" when protests are over doesn't inspire me in any meaningful way.

Defunding the police without addressing the issues that drive the cycle of poverty/crime is literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's like starting at the finish line. Without equal access to education, healthcare and opportunity for upward social mobility (the most important) all these fully funded social programs are just ladders to nowhere.

The whole idea that "defund the police" is something that is going to produce results in the short term, at least short enough term for these ridiculous protests to produce tangible enough results to claim some sort of "victory" and dissipate, is just retarded. In order to even start defunding anything, the whole purpose of the justice system has to be reformed to accommodate that type of change.

Two extremes clashing in the streets under the cover of darkness, after the real protests are long over is a problem, period, and it deserves to be addressed in a meaningful way. Dismissing, justifying or blaming the violence on others doesn't pass the sniff test, and if these after hours "protests" are acting as the vehicle for radicals on both sides of the equation to cause violent, criminal, civil unrest, that vehicle must be removed. It's how reality works.
I thought the idea was to defund the police and use that money toward resources to meet your goal. So you kind of just made the argument for it. Defunding sends a message and frees up money to keep monsters from taking human lives over petty crimes.

Its time we take decisions away from these ego maniacs and send in some professionals to help deal with problems.

Don't waste your time with that piece of pond scum. My dogs are smarter than that idiot.

I gave it one reply and that's all the time I'm going to waste with it.

Same with that other fool that has a picture of Greta Thunberg for their avatar. Whenever I walk past a rock I'll look to see if one of them is crawling out from under it.

Yes. My contention is that defunding the police is an end goal, not a starting point. I'm not against it, just pointing out that some of the violence is counter productive. On a road to voluntary civil obedience through social change, violence doesn't inspire my confidence this movement.

It’s a statement and a start. We can’t keep going like we are. Something has to change before this all stops. And it starts with the POTUS.

Ya well your falling into the “they want to turn the country into a lawless waste land” narrative. Defunding is not about not having a law enforcement contingent but about diverting needed funds to other solutions like support and Compassion.
I agree that money could be transferred or used differently than just buying tactical gear and armored vehicles. But the people pushing for this are people that don't even have an actual plan. And those posting on this site are totally clueless. I've been living with their type for years here in Portland. They support the violence and vandalism in Portland. If they are protesting against police violence with their own violence then they're no better than what they claim they're protesting against.

These are the protesters in Portland. An elderly lady comes out of her house with a fire extinguisher to put out a fire they started and they taunt her.

And I don't know what they did to this elderly woman.

It's completely counter productive. This violence is not a protest. These people are no longer protesters. They're criminals. They have nothing to do with BLM.

This thread was about the wild fires burning across the west. And just like they hijacked the BLM protests they've hijacked this thread.

Time to get it back on track and ignore the bad noise.

A big shout out to the volunteers from Mexico that have come here to help. Thank you.

How to help evacuees
  • Donate to the American Red Cross by writing "California Wildfires," "Oregon Wildfires" or "Washington Wildfires" in the memo line of a check and mailing it to your local Red Cross chapter with the completed donation form. For California wildfires, you can also text "CAWILDFIRES" to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Local residents can volunteer their services.
  • The Salvation Army is providing food, water and emotional support to evacuees and first responders in several locations.
  • Extra room in your home? Offer to host people in need of emergency housing on AirBnB.
  • Donate to various wildfire relief funds through the nonprofit GlobalGiving.
  • The California Community Fund and Oregon Community Fund support both immediate disaster relief and long-term recovery efforts.
  • GoFundMe.org has set up a general relief fund to distribute grants to various individual and community campaigns.
  • World Central Kitchen, founded by chef José Andrés, is providing tens of thousands of meals across California.
  • United Way chapters in various regions offer immediate and long-term recovery assistance, providing housing and other basic needs to displaced families.
How to help firefighters
  • The California Fire Foundation provides financial and emotional support to surviving families of fallen firefighters, firefighters, and their communities.
  • Direct Relief provides N-95 masks, medicine and resources to first responders.
  • The Los Angeles County Fire Foundation financially and emotionally supports paramedics, firefighters, lifeguards and other personnel.
  • The National First Responders Fund provides support including post-traumatic stress treatment, cancer prevention, toxic exposure, chemical dependency and critical incident support, outreach and activation.
  • The Wildland Firefighter Foundation helps families of fallen firefighters and assists injured firefighters and their families.
How to help animals
  • Red Rover, an organization that helps animals during crises, has a comprehensive list of pet-friendly lodging, animal shelters, animal hospitals, open fairgrounds, equestrian centers, transportation options and locations to pick up pet food and supplies in California, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. You can donate directly to Red Rover, or find a local organization on its website.
  • The Volunteers for the Emergency Management of Animals Network works to connect volunteer services with animal owners during crises. Volunteers can provide temporary homes or transportation to a wide variety of animals.

Very true. I reached out to my bestie from high school who lives in Ashland a day or two ago and she says she's safe for now. I'm super scared for her and her family. Absolutely horrible!!

It's called milkshaking. Harmless and directed at fascists.

Tell us more about how defund the police means no police and meth heads run rampant in the streets. That's a good one. Makes me laugh every time. You didn't make it up. You got that on Fox news, am I right?

Now you're trying to make me out to be a stupid FOX news viewer. Give it up. Go hijack a different thread. People are losing their homes and everything they own and you're stuck on stupid defending a bunch of criminals rioting and looting the city I was born and raised in. Why don't you do something productive and volunteer to help those affected by the fires or make a donation to one of the many organizations that ARE actually doing something to help people. I posted plenty of links.

Most of my outdoor finished early season. I still had 3 "late season" plants going - one Sundae Driver, and 2 Bubblegum Kush.

Here's the thing - I have to go out every morning and afternoon and look for caterpillar eggs. BT only does so much. I crush the eggs by hand twice a day. The ash sticking to the plants for the past week looks like eggs. It's fucked. I pulled everything a week or 3 early. Fuck it.

My house, cars, everything, covered in ash.
Least you still have a house and car, plus some bud that may or may not be a little racy. :weed:

You are the one who said defund the police meant meth heads run rampant in crime sprees across Portland unchecked. It's a false and dishonest statement. Also part of the right wing propaganda stream at this very moment. Suggest you look at your news sources and question the sources that are telling you this.

This came up because some right wing Trump supporters posted bullshit about Antifa causing those fires. Seems you have more in common with Q because you are doing the same thing right here. I'm not conflating the disaster around the fires with the disasters created by fascists in Portland's city government. Why are you?

Thanks for the links, by the way. Very helpful. Did the google search exhaust you? Thank you Scott.
