Cutter’s shifty swapping of led chips

Around a month ago I ordered some UVA boost strips from Cutter that had the special TEKNIK PC blue leds. I wanted to get more 420 and 430nm into the spectrum sort of like how the highlights have on there boards but in a strip form.

I messaged Mark at Cutter to double check that the TEKNIK PC Blues were being used because I saw TEKNIK mention that Cutter no longer had any instock. Mark confirmed twice that the leds were TEKNIKs PC blue leds.

After they were ordered I was feeling uneasy and messaged TEKNIK on Instagram to check if they were his leds that were being supplied and he told me that he doesn't think that Cutter had any of the PC blue leds left, also TEKNIK told me Cutter had not ordered any more from him.

Because the order had already been placed I just waited until they arrived to find out what was going on.

Once they arrived I showed a photo of the LED from under a microscope to TEKNIK and he confirmed that the chips were not his PC blue leds but some sort of copy of his special leds.

I was absolutely blown away as to how this could have happened. I emailed Mark and he said that TEKNIK had supply issues so they had no choice but to copy his LEDs. After he confirmed twice that they would be TEKNIKs leds, he also said that he spent alot of time in product development and advertising, as an excuse for his actions.

I really wanted to buy TEKNIK leds to thank him for all the time he spends helping people like me out plus TEKNIK’s blue spectrum looks really good in my opinion.

TEKNIK told me he has thousands of PC Blues leds instock on hand in Australia. So there is not a supply chain problem with them at all but Cutter never ordered them from him to use on his strips.
TEKNIK said that the spectrum won't be like his. TEKNIK has said that his leds are more expensive to produce due to the blue phosphor to bump up the 430nm region plus the leds he uses are more efficient. Not many factories would be able to copy what he made or even come close, especially not Alibaba companies.

Teknik spent alot of time developing the leds to ensure the spectrum would work correctly when blending with standard white leds and even went all the way to China just to check the quality control in the factory that was producing the chips for him.

TEKNIK showed the spectrum of his PC blue leds that I had seen before and described how when mixed with standard white leds it dramatically bumps up the 430nm region as well as going all the way down beyond 400nm.

It took me about a week to get Mark to show the spectrum of the copy led that was swapped out with the genuine TEKNIK PC Blue. It looks nothing like it at all.

Mark insists that the copy will have a better blend than the TEKNIK PC blue led in the 430nm region which is what I wanted. I can not see how it is possible to blend better than the TEKNIK PC Blues and it certainly doesn't look like it will have more 430nm.

Am I wrong to think this won't blend as well as TEKNIKs PC blue?

I feel that I'm being fed a load of shit from Mark plus I didn't get what I paid for. If you look at the spectrum on Cutters website it looks like it is done with TEKNIKs PC blue not some copy that looks nothing like it. Shouldn't the product have been cheaper in price considering it doesn't have the more expensive genuine TEKNIK PC Blue?

Please help me out with this, I trust what TEKNIK says because it makes alot of sense to me and its clear he is overall alot more intelligent than Mark. I just cant see how it would be possible for the knock off led to possibly have the spectrum that is shown on Cutters website. How can a spectrum with hardly any 430nm at all possibly be better than a spectrum that has alot?

I don't know either of you, but if this guy lied twice in writing about the product he was selling, and then tried bullshitting his way out of it when he got busted, fuck him. Get your money back, and keep your documentation of his fraudulent behaviour.

This is why forums are still important.

Cant say nothing but good things about TEKNIK... Always helping and sharing knowledge for free. probably the person who knows more about led technology I ever knew
I have never bought from Cutter...but after this issue..I will never buy from Cutter and I will tell everybody who ask me about led sellers that never should buy from Cutter.. Enough said..there is a thing that I hate specially..People that takes advantage from the work of others... That behaviour is not only unethical , in this case could be even a kind of felony. If I were TEKNIK I would sue that company.
This kind of things make my blood boil....
Goodbye Cutter, hope you have to eat your shitty leds

Please feel free to return the product, happy to give you an RMA. I will check with teknik if he has more stock of the PC blue as he did not the last time we checked. I believe what has happened was we used our chip from our anti bacterial board, this was my mistake, so happy to cop it. It is not Ledtekniks PC BLUE chip as it is not phosphor converted
Cheers
Mark

I can't believe that most on here are still wiling to get the reach around from a couple guys half a world away.
TEKNIK is not longer allowed on this forum why?? Real nice guy only wanting to educate folks right?
And as for Cutter, Mark seems nice enough on the surface but when looking for lighting to drive photosynthesis with proper photomorphogenic traits, I just can't hand my money to a led seller who doesn't even know what a 6500K T5 Spectral Distribution Graph looks like :peace:
Im guessing a 6500K T5 Spectral Distribution Graph looks like a 6500K T5 Spectral Distribution Graph...did you ask me if I knew what it looked like as I dont recall this

I was involved in this project/clusterfuck since day one with Mark/ Teknik. It was me who asked Teknik to help customize a spectrum using his blues, i was using Marks strips as the base.

teknik was nothing but helpful during the entire process. Answered any and every question I had , never once asking for anything in return. Offered to test them and get me the numbers if I wanted.

I don’t recall him ever having inventory issues while I was waiting weeks for mark to send my strips.

Teknik still has his blues and It seems Mark is choosing to not use them so he can go a cheaper route, knock off Teknik with something blue , make more money and capatilize on growers wanting the teknik spectrum. Tekniks blues are expensive but legit. Mark not using teknik blues is his choice, Mark selling the blues he’s Using and still claiming they are tekniks is where I have issue and is just very bad business.

I’ve been loyal to mark and cutter since I started. That’s done now. This was a dirty move Mark. Such a shame.

I’ve been in contact with teknik Regularly since December regarding these blues/strips. So I know the timeline and most of the shit that went down. Teknik predicted this happening shortly after I got my strips(February/March) He told me point blank that mark was Gonna screw him over on the blues.

My new lights still aren’t built because of this mess. I had no intention of promoting something that resulted in teknik getting screwed.

If anyone has any questions ask away, I still talk to teknik regularly , I have every message we sent during this project.
