Harvested flower tastes horrible. Dried too fast? Too many nutes late bloom?

Hi all.

I just had my buds trimmed and put into jars for curing about 2.5 weeks ago. The drying happened too quickly (6.5 days). I sampled a bowl from the jars today, and the flavor is harsh, and reminds me of the bad quality brick weed from high school. Funny enough, the flavor of the smoke reminds me of a swisher sweets cigar.

I have a few theories.
The drying happened too fast
and/or
I fed bloom nutrients too far into flowering and should have tapered off (I gave plain water for last 2 weeks of flowering, but previous to that I was giving the full 3 tbsp per gallon of bloom nutes, and the leaves showed burning tips).

What do you guys think? This was strawberry cough, so the flavor is supposed to be very pleasant if grown properly. Does anybody here have experience growing good tasting flower using GH nutrients?

Thanks
Gimpy

The humidity in the jars is right at 62 percent, so I don't think I need to add boveda humidity packs yet (I have some).

Part of my love for smoking weed is the terpene profile. I like the fruity flavors and that is as important to me as the effects.

I am currently jobless so I cant be smoking weed, so I "Bill clintoned" a bowl, just pulling it into my mouth, and then blowing it out to get the taste.

I'm going to assume with the way this is written that you are growing in a soil medium, please forgive me if I'm wrong.
In soil I've always done the last two weeks without nutrients, just water but I always give a good flush with plain water after the last feeding. This has always worked for me.
Now that I see the little bit about GH nutes maybe your hydro.
Either way based on plant picture I'd be willing to bet it was experiencing a build up of nutrients. Usually when when mine look like that, it's either that or ph problem.
Sorry about the flavor profile.

I don’t taper off or “flush” at all and my shit tastes good. The only time I’ve had off flavours was when I harvested too early. I hang dry whole plants minus the major fan leaves for about a week then dry trim and throw it straight into big ziplock freezer bags, opening the bags once a day to replace the air and break up buds that stick together

I saw further up you said you “Bill Clintoned” it lol I don’t think that can really give you an accurate representation of the taste. For me most of the flavour comes on the exhale after the smoke mixes with the air in your lungs and cools down.

Maybe get one of your homies to try it and tell you how it is. Might not be as bad as you think

Too bad you didn't drop a couple buds on the floor and forget about them for a few weeks. You would have tasted a bomb ass terp profile. Jarring too early kills the flavor.
This. ^^ I usually hang dry for 10-14 days before they go into jars. This is with my tent @ 60-65% humidity. The higher it is the longer the dry obviously. I just use a small fan blowing at bottom of tent or closet moving air but nothing blowing on the buds. If you are drying that fast I think maybe try to reduce your airflow. Herb should be dry enough to roll a test spliff by then, then a week in the jar before I really start digging in. The cure is best after like 30 days but I also enjoy earlier smoke too bc I find the terps strongest early on.

Hey! Thanks for all of your comments. This was all insightful.

I didn't know that jarring early affects the flavor. I wanted my hang dry to last around 10-14 days, so 6.5 was a little bit off the mark. I am using big mama rockwool cubes and pouring nutrient water solution on the tops of them.

When I hung dry the plants, I had an intake fan that was moving around the air too much, but my humidity was perfectly at 60 percent. I suspect this fan, while not blowing directly on the plants, was strong enough of a wind to dry the plants faster than intended.

"THC shopping is almost as bad and dumb as buying wine based on how cool the label looks (which is also how some people buy weed)."

I buy wine on the basis of alcohol content per dollar.
Wine coolers are 7.5% @ a dollar a bottle.

Don't give a damn how the label looks, I just wanna get wrecked for the minimum spend (within reason).

"High-THC weed doesn’t even get you “more high”!"
High THC gets you just as high as low THC weed but with less flower (so it's better value).

But what the report really says is ........
"Half the study participants were users of cannabis concentrates—very-high THC cannabis extracts—and the other half preferred cannabis flower."
I only smoke flower and I want over 20% THC in my flower.
They can keep the concentrates at any cost.

6.5 is not too quick, its right on the money actually, as far as i know GH is not Ideal for soil, its more hydro specified, never heard of soil grows with GH.

I am doing one right now and my last grow. Bud tastes pretty good! Gh works well in soil as far as I can tell

Pretty good. First harvest. Was a week early. So it is not the best!! But It doesn't taste like chemicals, just like unripe bud haha
