Best CFL for Veg

Never Known

Active Member
So basically I want to Veg with a CFL Before I put them under 3-4 600w HPS.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend the Best CFL lights for vegging. Reason I want CFL is as I understand if I keep them close to the light they will not stretch and I don’t want them to stretch as my grow room is 6ft high.

I currently use a Hydroponics CFL Grow Light Spectrum Bulb Red Veg Flower 450w 34000 lumens. Florescent lamp.

any recommendations ?

thanks

23w 6500k in dual light sockets splitter. You can hook a bunch of them. I always use at least 1 per seedling. Once 2 weeks old, definitely at least 2 of them, keep close, 3 inch away

I started these with leds, but ive had the same results under cfl. Spectrum and intensity are equally important, keep excess heat away, dont let them touch the cfl, if they go from 3 inch to hitting the cfl stretching fast, you need to increase intensity. This is a soft training technique

You've got four 600W HPS lamps? I'd most certainly skip the CFLs, and veg under HPS if you've got no MH bulbs. With one or two small CFLs, it doesn't matter what spectrum they run at... the plants will stretch due to lack of light. They'll stretch far less and grow much less lanky under the HID.

Hps are less efficient than leds and cfls. Hps you have to keep far away mass heat loss. Cfls and leds you can have the plant almost touch. I use some leds which have a glass dome and can easily touch them. I let the buds grow right to the light, no heat burn but know your lights temperature first!

Ummm, I run bare bulb in my tents, but if I was to put the glass back in my hood and connected the ventilation back to it, I can have my plants within 3" of my 1000W HPS. Why have the lamps so close though? The whole point is to cover as large an area as you can with the most efficient distribution of light. CFLs and cheap LEDs are useful for seedlings.

Also, lamps that grow lanky plants with airy buds with lower quantities is less efficient. I both heat my grow spaces and grow top quality bud with my lamps. I pay a bit more for electricity, but the results are far better and more reliable.

hey thanks for the info, do you have a link maybe? I’m trying to keep the plants as short as possible will these lights help with that?

Those are super stretched out. They're wanting way more light.
No, but most people assume. Stretching is far apart branches and bud sights. My tallest is that way because it has more hermie in its genetics. If it was pure Male it'd be even taller now. But its far from male and very manageable. The same amount of light on the 3 exact same plants same conditions proves it is the difference in genetics

Not really, no. CFLs are far too under-powered to keep stretch down. Because they are under powered, they'll actually increase stretch, and cause the plant to have very long internodes (ie. the plant will be lanky).

Yeah I have the HPS in a separate room though, the seedlings are in a tent so if I use the HPSS inside It gets very hot. So you would suggest a MH or a HID?

Lies lies lies or you just dont know so you throw assumptions. Keep a 6500k of 23w cfl 1 to 3 inch from seedling and youll never see stretch. Add more bulbs as plant grows. This is not rocket science
