I need some input on a micro hydroponics Idea

Hey what did you use to sprout your seeds? Rockwool?I used stater soil for my plants then transplanted them. I do have some rockwool butthefirsttimeI used it taproot did a 180 and started coming back out the hole. I know that you germ your seeds soak the wool wip out extra water put hydroton in the bottom of your cup so that the bubble splash won't hit the rockwool mist twice a day and cover. Missing anything?

What I did was use 2" net cups in a 3gl DWC.. filled half way with hydroton. The water level was just over the net cups... 1/2" or less water in the cup. I made sure hydroton was over all the water. I cut rockwool cubes in half so they were not as deep. I rinsed them out.. then let them sit in Phed water for 24hrs. I then "whipped" The water out so they were just moist and put the germed seed in the rockwool just barely covered. Only took a day or two for them to start popping up to little seedlings. Some.. The net cup was too far out of the water and they dried up and died.. which was ok for me as I don't have the space for all I planted and expected some to die out. If the rock wool dries out completely just take some water from the res and top feed that pod a little till the tap root makes it out of the net cup. Then your set. All the ones I started from seed got boated into hempy buckets. Everything else that is in DWC is from clone...So far.. thats my system

Sounds easy enough but, I don't like taking that chance I mean I can put the seeds in some starter soil and wait for the first three leaves to pop take it out of the soil wash the dirt off(very gently) and put in the hydroton. I just don't want to chance the rockwool thing again. What do ya think?

I like the rockwool.. shoot.. Hydro in general as it so clean. I would say you would be ok doing it your way. You should try one mine and see. get a 64oz cup with a plastic lid, net cup and some tubing and your set. Really.. you should give it a shot, I think it is much cleaner, quicker, and just as easy as soil really.

I am still going hydro I just don't want my seedlings to die.lol I am gonna use 2 gallon black buckets with 4" net pots.It's whatI have same as your just a little bigger. I love hydro so easy and clean I would like to try a coco perlite mix sometime but I put most of my money into hydro. I have some rockwool I will give it a try.

Well here are some picture updates. More have trickled into the flower cabinet and now it is pretty full. I am sexing most of hempy bucket style as I am looking for a juicy fruit and hindu kush mom. Ill put it right back to veg once I know what I have. The 8 in the 64oz DWC are all afgooey clones. I am looking at some options but at this rate I add water every 3rd day and end up changing & cleaning the res every 9th day.. not bad. Plus.. They are drinking!! I found some other 1gl containers and I may go this route.. I still could fit 12 in there and that is my final goal... to be able to have 12 individual dwc units in there at any time anywho.. I digress.. here are some pictures

Thanks man. I have limited space in my two cabs and I am moving toward a sog type setup. After this first round I will get it all refined and the buds will be flowing out of it The cups seem to be doing great.. PH steadily rises from 5.5 to 6.8 in a span of 3 days.. plants seem to really like it.. I should post a pic of the stem on the bigger ones that were like the size of the small ones last week...LOL Here:

So here is a picture update. I think its been less than a week. Growth continues to kick ass! Keep in mind this is just under a 1/2gl res per plant. I am using Fox Farm. No H2o2 and seem to have very healthy, white, fuzzy roots. I'm expecting most of them to hit a foot or just a little taller. The ones I am sexing in the hempy buckets haven't shown yet.. I hope they do soon. I have 13 in the space but would like to only keep 10-12 in there for the sake of a cycle. Enjoy.

Thanks! I work at it like maybe 3hrs a week..LOL Ive got roughly 6 weeks before the first several will be ready... I really cant wait. I was in a closet.. this is the first round with the cabinets and with hydro. I LOVE Hydro. It is way easy and the growth rate makes every bit worth it. I don't think Ill be going back to soil. Although... soil helped me learn alot about growing. I think it should be a pre-req to hydro..LOL

about every 10 days. I wipe them down with an h202 soaked rag before refilling then too. I can do 12 DWC in under an hour for res change/nute. Thanks for the props I am sooooo happy with this hydro shit..LOL

Ok, I am bumping this thread cuz I am too lazy to have a journal...LOL The first several in the cycle are hitting 3 weeks tomorrow. So tonight I think I need to take pics. It is AMAZING! They are already budding quite well. Also.. I ended up with a female Hindu Kush and am waiting on my Juicy fruits and Himalayan gold to see if I get a mom from them. Hopefully I will get one of each and have 5 different moms Thats probably over-kill for my setup but I just trim and throw away. I would rather have a lot of variety. OH.. and one of the "feminized" himalayan gold was male/hermie... so Im not sold on feminized. So.. anyway.. Pictures tonight/tomorrow ...LOL

these are the ones on bubblers: The farthest right two are at 3 weeks today. The other 5 are at 2 weeks, The last one is a misty that went in yesterday. Have I already said I love the 64oz bubblers. I really like the micro hydro..LOL I also love my 400w hps in this small space. Only like 5 more weeks...mmmmm

The hempy buckets I am using to sex some plants.
the closest one is a female Himalayan Gold. There is another of the HG waiting to sex but I think its female too.. and then two Juicy fruits. Well see the HG is actually just going to get flowered and I am hoping for a mom out of the juicy fruit.
