Supplemental red lighting

Tek suggested the cutter 50/50 red strips. the price put me outside my budget range. I was atp going to do boards with red but I wanted to start the red before the lights cut on.
How many of these ssk 560s would I need for a 4x4, I know they aren’t as powerful as the 50/50s and only 2ft. The alternative would be to see if cutter can make me some custom strips but with how busy they are I’m trying to avoid that option. I was planning on making an order of 20 of these strips for 5 4x4s

20 is too many for a 4x4 I think. 6 would be plenty. If you're using it for emmerson effect. Those strips can put out 19w at 700mA or 29w at 1amp. You dont need a bunch of light for emmerson effect.

If you run them on heatsinks at 1amp that's 174w of red. That's too much. I only run 60w with 660w of mid power whites.

I'm running 2 QB 18 with a MW 80H- 48A driver in a 5 x 5 space wit my 550 v2 was running at 100% for first couple days cut it back to about half I was noticing some stretch..

Stretch is another reason I didn’t want reds in my boards, I am trying for the Emerson effect and Idk if it’s a myth but it’s said turning them on minutes before light cycle shorten the flowering stage. I have 5 tables, I was going to get 4 per table. I want to run them soft, could just mounting the to some alum be enough for a heatsink. Another alternative is this strip that’s 3ft and I would use 2 per 4x4, before shipping they are 38. Would possibly only go that route if cutter is really busy

It does shorten flowering some. I run them 15 mins at beginning of light cycle plus all through day cycle. Then only reds last 15 mins. If your getting stretch add some blue diodes to the mix. Adding more red will cause more stretch not less.

Thanks, do anyone know if you can two different board chips off the two different outlet cords. My 600h a has 2 red and black outputs. I was going to run some 312 qb boards on one outlet and 132 an boards on the other outlet

I'm runin reds 15 min before day break, 2 hours peek and EoD for 15 min. I do have a old 6500k 3" x 20" reef tank light LED that's suposta be 29 watt's. Is that enough blue to have a effect?

It should but the problem is the area size your running. Being only 20" long if you're covering say a 4x4 area the leds only have probably a 120° light pattern. So it may not cover area. Like it may be enough for a 2x2 area. But may not affect the remaining 2 feet. You know what I mean? Like.if you had two of them it would cover the whole area.

And I've found running reds doing lights on also helps trich production. But I also run blues as well.

They need to be the same voltage and current. I dont think you can run one that draws say 1000mA max and the other say 500mA max. On the seperate outputs. I've never messed with the 600s. Bc they jus dont seem worth it for the price point. But anyway. I was always under the assumption it's one or the other. I dont think its split half n half.

True wishful thinking pricepoint is def off wish I paid more attention to the 480s, with these strips they say 29v should I get a 30 or a 36v

Still getting a bit of stretch outta the girls I am hardly running these QB 18's @ 50% and only the times mentioned above. I am gonna stop running them at peak see what that dose..

Do you have any blues you can add? Running reds will cause more stretch. Dont you have regular QBs too? If so what CCT? If they are 2700,3000,or 3500k they have plenty of red in them on the 660-680nm level. Running extra reds with them will cause extra stretch.

It's not that they are bad. But for 160-190 for them the extra 120w over 480s jus doesnt seem worth it to me. You can do a 480 plus a 185 for about the same. The 185s do 202w maxed out at 97% percent load. Atleast the A model does. I run one. And you can catch the 185s on sale pretty often.

Didn’t know that and now I feel like only using the strips I ordered to come on a little earlier to shorten flowering time. Since I run clone sog tables stretch isn’t something I desire. Luckily I can use some for my veg and throw a couple on my mother I put in flower and leftovers. I’m choosing between a 120 or 185 a or b. For now I’m doing a couple from seed but later want to use the drivers for the supp lights. Might could use a 85

It's all good man. I've done it. My first run with reds. I run with some 96 diode 2700k lm561c s5 sunboards. They are shorter strips. But really nice. They have 48 diode rows. Two rows. 24v can handle up to 2.5A max says 1800mA but I've pushed 2.5A through them with really good cooling. And they rocked it. I added 660nm Ted's inbetween the strips. Had 4 of the 96s being pushed by a HLG-240H-24A which is 10.0A and they handled it great for about 8 months. Then I added two more strips. To bring it down to 1666mA and put 4 strips of reds on a hlg120. And the ladies stretched hard core. Clones I've run before. Then I added 12 Samsung F Series Gen 3s F562bs 560mm on a hlg320h-24b in 3k. Dropped out the reds and run the sammy strips and the sunboards. Pushing 560w. And that run was just all baseball bat colas. Then I add some cree royal blues in with the reds. Dropped them 60w and the blues at 75w 4 strips as well. And it was the best spectrum I've found. Stretch was on point, yield was through the roof. And trich production was at all time high. So that's what I've stuck with in one area. 560w of mid power whites 257w of 2700k and 321w of 3000k 60w ord mixed reds 660nm and 672nm. And 75w of royal blues.

What area were you covering? I’ll look into some blues but the reds I was going to run soft regardless my qb 132s are 3500 but the rest are 3k. Thankfully I only ordered 20 strips, if they come ontime I’ll see how they do for the rest of flowering

Yeah i'm running a QB260v2 3500K, a 550v2 3500K. I was reading about LED/ HID lighting they mentioned supplemental red for indoor growing. So I thought what the hell I'll give it a go...lol

@budman410 Yeah if you look at the actual CCt of 3500 hlg v2s they have a nice red spike. If you're not wanting all 20 reds. I'll take some off your hands. I'm actually about to order some reds from cutter for emmerson. If you wanna recoup some cash from them. I'd be more than willing to take a few.
