24/7 Light ON Autos - to maintain temps in winter

I'm looking to grow in a cold cellar space that would need to be heated to keep the root zones warm.

I am thinking of running Autos solely for this reason as I think I can run the lights 24/7 to warm the space. Electricity is fairly cheap and the HPS light will provide plenty of heat.

I'm curious if I may have trouble with some strains not flowering or somehow the lack of "sleep time" everyday may hurt them?

I'm not to worried about the electricity cost for the 500w I will be using constantly.

Any negatives to a setup like this?

I would go 18/6 or 20/4 just put a lil space heater in there. You can find a small one that just plugs right into the wall kinda like a nightlight. Drape an extension cord through your top poles. Pull the cord down to maybe 5" above your pot because heat rises and will do you no favor tawords the top of your space and plug that thing in. Most of them only run 60watts. I've not grown autos but everything I've read says not to run 24 as it could stress the plant and reduce yeild, thc content and it could also make em hermie on you. Or you could put a green bulb in the tent and that will heat it up. If the lights are out and you run a green bulb it will not effect the plant in any way. There are numerous green bulbs online. People use green to work when the lights are out! If you dont get an led one, it should keep the heat. If your humidity is to high, put a bowl of salt in the space. it naturally lowers humidity levels! Or you could just do what I did and google how to grow autos. There is alot of useful information on them.

You have read alot of wrong stuff from photo growers that are bitter bwcause they try and can't do well with autos. I use 24 hours of light based on the fact the Mephisto(easily the top auto breeder at the moment if you research) and they use 24 hours of light.

Well thanks for the heads up! There is way to much information to discern what's right and what's wrong. I've not checked out Mephisto, although I've read alot of good things about them. I tend to take what people say with a grain of salt. I cross referenced what I read about autos on the fastbuds fourm and feminised seeds fourm and they both said 18/6 so I figured if a breeder is saying that then that's what it is. I also realize that not all breeders and autos are the same. some need more light than others. So when I get my autos I'll run them at 24 and if something happens I'm gonna chop your fingers off, cool? All jokes aside! Do you know of a place that has the right info on autos? Like I said I've read alot but there seems to be alot of bullshit out there and I would like to read some stuff that's not shit. I've read basically the same thing just worded differently on a few sites. I've looked at afn but there seems to be alot of misguided info there as well. Which is crazy for the simple fact it's a site that is dedicated to auto only grows. I will check out Mephisto thanks for the heads up on that breeder.

There is no "all info on autos" because they are still a growing and changing plant. 10 years ago autos grew at most a foot tall and lucky to get an oz. Those that don't grow them don't realize they are light years ahead of what they were. Its all personal preference on light. Some feel dark helps and would benifit having dark for a few hours during the hottest part of the day and help save on the bills. Myslef knowing autos only live a certian amou t of time i want as much light as i can give and they don't lose anything by having 24 on.

Yes like I said I'm not worried about the electricity bill. I simply want to keep them on 24/7 to fight the cold temps

You can get a seed that refuses to flower under 18/20/24 hours, so it is what it is. It happens and you'll have 2 options. Push it with high P nutes or put it to 12/12. Autos are not guaranteed just very highly percentage bread to auto flower.

Im not upset if I were to lose 5% or 1 in 20 seeds due to not flowerring, as I plan to run about 6-8 at a time, but something like 20% lost due to a 24 hour lights on environment wouldnt have me to smiling

Im not sure where you are getring youre info from, but you seem to alreadyhave made up youre mind so just do 18. I've already told you no matter what cycle you use there will always be a chance they don't auto and 1 of the top breeders if you research them use 24 hours of light and have genes that get up to 300 grams a plant INDOORS in soil which is 12oz. I wish you good luck where ever you decide to go and if you have a grow and especially a 6-8 plant grow @ me so i can follow. I love active grows.

Ive made up my mind so just do 18?? What are you even reading?? 18 hours will not work for me because those 6 hours will literally be below freezing if left without heat.

The point of this thread was to gauge the ammount of people that have success or great failure with AUTOS running 24/7 no lights off.

Canadian winter is ice ice cold just like my wifes heart for not letting me grow inside

Yeah, you asked about it i told you it works and pointed you to research on Mephisto as they are easily one of and amoung many the top breeder in autos right now who use 24 hours on and you are still going on about seeds not flowering. So clearly you want to hear something else than yes it will work well. But aside from that hope your grow works out for you but im not going to be able to offer anything else here.

I follow the Mephisto grow guide and they recommend 24/0. I grow in my garage where it can get cold so I switched to autos 2 years ago for the same reason as you and the results have been spectacular.

Maybe your information would be beneficial to someone running memphisto seeds.... your twat had nothing to offer in the first place

Yeah, coming from a Canadian whise wife wont let him grow inside don't think you should be valling others twat XD i see where your growing ends up anyways so my help isn't worth giving to someone ignorant like you. Ill be watching to see how long it takes you to give up and become non existent here. Following XD

I usually run 20/4 but when it gets super cold out its too much hassle to control temps in the dark hours, so I switch to 24/0 with no issue.

My veg tent runs 24 hours with no issue I have grown many autos in there while photos veg. Multi breeders and strains all did fine under 24 hours of light. I also battle cold in winter 2 tents makes this very manageable I exhaust air from my veg tent into flower tent to keep warm enough in lights out.

It's what Mattymatt said.
Also here at RQS seeds:

However, if you want to keep your roots warm like you said in your op then an overhead light is not the best. The best would be some floor insulation with a heat mat or heat cables under your pots.

Run your lights what ever length you want. 18 to 24 sounds good to me.. Better yet follow the breeders advice on lighting. This should be a no brainier..

If you need rootball heat get a thermostatically controlled heater!!! Use lights for light and a heater for heat.

It's ALL about control of your environment!
Ya hey.?.

Twat, had not heard that word in ages. It's still used in the neo #metoo Canukistan language?
