Hello all,

I have done 4 previous grows, the first 3 were all successful auto flowers, blue treacle, bulk smash from gorlilla seeds then lemon haze auto from green house seeds. All very yielded roughly 2oz per plant which I know isn't amazing but I was super happy with.
Then I started a couple of pinapple express autos and very quickly into the grow the leaves at the bottom started to brown from the tip. This decay slowly worked its way around the outside of the leaves the plants didn't die but they grew very slowly tothe point where I just ripped them up.

I now have 2 Photo's going, 1x red dragon and 1x LSD, both from barneys farm. I am having the same creeping brown decay starting at the tip of the leaf, starting on the bottom leaves. As you can see by the pictures the plant is very young and this has happened already! its been 2 weeks since it popped out.

Light: roughly 600w of COB LEDs, I made the light myself using aluminium frame and COB LED modules. I keep the light roughly 20 inches from the plants, I have not changed this throughout including all the successful grows
Medium: 70% Coco, 30% perlite
Nutes: Canna A+B and Calmag
Temp: 25°
Humidity 30%
PH: 5.5 - 6

There is air flow, there is extraction, there is fresh air.

I fed this seedling about 4 days after it popped for 4 days in a row with 1/16th strength of Canna A+B and 1/2 strength Calmag, then 2 days of flush, then I went back yesterday with the 1/16 nutes and 1/2 strength calmag.

Can anybody help me? I really do not know what to do I dont think I have changed anything that i do but now have had 1 failed crop and am on the road to another.

I really appreciate any help given

Plant now 3 weeks and looks like this.

Since I wrote that first post I have flushed for 1 day then started 1/16th nutes and much lower cal mag.

  • See close up of bottom leave on the plant this was where it started
  • Also super yellow
It is still getting worse but the plant is growing. Any ideas?

What do you do to prep your coco before you plant your beans, and what's the runoff compared to what you're putting into the plant?

I have had coco come out of the bag with 300ppm's worth of salts / shit in it, and if you don't rinse that crap out, it can cause the very problems you're having with your seedling.

Another issue with coco is that you can create a nute build up in it that can damage your plants if you're not looking out for it along the way.

They have very bad nutrient burn you should not be feeding just yet
Step 1 plz stop feeding them ASAP and flush
Step 2 back the light away 32inchs you can see new growth burning and older leaves curling and that's because the light is to close
Step3 I recommend you to transplant them to ah soil like fox farm or promix . because coco is difficult for new growers
Step 4 do not and I repeat don't give them no more nutrients until they recover . A sign of recovery is the new growth will turn the green color you expect and remember the light is to close and it's burning them which is heat stress and they need to recover from that also so 32inch with a 600w is perfect for their recovery. If you keep the Coco and don't transplant to soil then on the next watering do a flush pH 5.8 or do a couple heavy waterings but no nutrients and poke whole around roots to help them with oxygen after flush or heavy watering

Your not meant to water coco with just water....

Plants look hungry to me.

I don't grow in coco so I'm not much use but I do know that if your leaching coco then you leach with a 1/4 feed not plain water.

Ok I am even more confused now.

Is this nute burn or are they hungry? I mean how can that wee plant be hungry its tiny!

Do you have a PPM tester? If not buy one because going by recommended dosages from the manufacturer is a only an estimate and not close enough for serious growers..
One problem is that coco has no nutrients in it so you must feed from the beginning, and in my opinion 1/16th is too low,
The plants look hungry, so buy a tester, bring your PPM to 700 and you should be good to go.
I would snip off the dead/dying lower leaves (normal in some cases), bump up your food to 1/2 (at least), and see how that works.
Good luck

Ok I am going to:

  • check them tonight, if they look no better i will go 1/2 strength nutes and see what happens
  • Buy a PPM meter
Although now I feel like im going from flushing to 1/2 strength which is basically the polar opposite

What about my wee seedling, surely i cannot give that 1/2 strength nutes???

Getting worse, more yellow all round more leaves going brown. please help me!

anyone seen symptoms like this with fungus gnats?
If I had gnats would I easily be able to see them?

70/30?
Coco/perlite?
Synthetic nutrient?

Flush with an adjusted light feed (2-400 ppm) of base a+b nutrient @6.3ish right away!
Flush until your ph and ec of the waste, reads the same as whats going in.

Then let it dry a little.
A day or two later start bumping up your ec/ppm.
I grow in straight coir. Mine dont like it when my coir is below ph6 for long.
Infact. If its for more than a day or two, they hate it.

Let the ph drift.
But never leave it under 6 for long.

throw coco away because it's too hot or something because leaves keep on dying but hurry up and transplant because coco is too hot ( too many nutrients that plant can't take).once Yu transplant they should be fine . And just do pH water for about week or 2 . And question did you back the light off of them

Also I strongly recommend you to get fox farm soil because your plants will die if there's nomore leaves from nutrients burning them . And with fox farm you don't have to worry about feeding them although you shouldn't be feeding them now but just transplant them since the flush didn't work

Fungus gnat are noticeable like flies . If you are concerned about insects then buy some cheap neem oil if you don't have gnats neem oil can be used as a preventative maintenance to prevent everything . But you can't use neem oil because your plants are stressed . But you can still spray soil and around the pots they're in . I use neem oil starting at week 4 and every week after . But if you had gnat you would see them .
