questions about how to set up grow room!!

Hey guys i wanted a few opinions on how i could possibly set my grow room up. my closet is 3 1/2 feet by 5 1/2 feet and is 7 1/2 feet tall. right now i have a 400 watt air cooled light with a carbon filter with exhaust fan. its set up filter>ducting>aircooled light>fan>ducting>into attic

the way i have it hanging its kind of angled from corner to corner [___] running diagonal from top left corner to bottom right corner.

what i want to do is keep the setup i have now since i just upgraded to that from a non cooled hood, AND would also like to add a 300 watt led grow light to go with the 400 watt air cooled light.

the questions that keep running through my head are:
1. i have room to hang the LED grow light on the back side of the air cooled light kind of up towards that top right corner, but if i hang it there will all my plants still be able to receive light and benefit from the led light being that my air cooled light will have to be so much closer to my plants than the led light?

2. does anybody have a way that i could set this up and all my plants be able to benefit from both sources of lighting?

thanks in advance for any input!! Happy Growing!!

I dont think you will benefit a lot from having both your led and hps hit your plant at the same time.. id just use them side by side.. but a bit more detailed on your hps and type of LED could help us provide you with better recommandation. But clearly I wouldnt "stack" the light on over the other youd loose way too much light

No I wasn't meaning like that. I was meaning they would be hung side by side but it would the air cooled light would be the first light youd see when you walk in and the led would be on the back side of it. i dont have a led light purchased yet, i wanted to get some ideas before i went buying a led light and stuff. but even having the lights side by side, my air cooled light will have to be so much closer to the plants than the led light and thats what has me wondering if all of my plants will be able to benefit from both lights seeming that the air cooled light is almost touching the tops of the plants and the led light will have to be atleast 12 inches if not more away from the tops of the plants. so the air cooled hood would being right on top of the plants i was thinking it might would block a lot of the light that is coming from the led light.

why is that? i dont really have any other place i can vent to
Don't worry about it. You must have intake air though, like you cant keep the door closed all the time
Also, I wouldn't bother with the LED (save money), just swap the 400 for a 600w HPS (cost less/works better).
Your area is perfect for like 4 plants, and a 600w HPS (on pulley hangers) would be perfect, although you will need to get rid of the heat, but it seems you have that covered.
Paint the room white, keep the door open when lights are on, and you should be good to go.
Good luck

yeah the way its set up now is perfect cause the exhaust fan i have is pulling air in also even with door closed because i have a good gap at the bottom of the door. a good inch and a half at least. so its getting some good fresh air pulled in even with door closed. i put a dryer sheet at the bottom of the door with it closed and just watch it suck into the gap under the door so fresh air is definitely being pulled in. and yeah i think you may be right on that, i was looking at getting a 600 watt setup but then was doing some research and it seemed as if some people were saying having one of each was getting the best of both worlds. right now i have a 400 watt mh in the air cooled hood and a hps for flowering but i also have a non cooled regular hood with 250 watt hps bulb. you think i could hang that one in there along with the 400 or it would just be best to get a ballast for a 600 and just have one light fixture hung in there? Thanks for the advice man!

Then maybe you can look at adding samsung F strips to your build if you want to diy a bit.. youll be able to place the strips wherever you want and depending how hard you run them you can usually get away with getting them very close to your canopy (matching your hps) that would allow you to get same amount of light accross the canopy

I don't know what an attic is where you live, here its not a livable space and venting into the attic = mold, rot and structural damage. Also venting into attic during the winter is going to crate a nice shower inside the house when it warms up in spring.

But maybe your attic is the ones I always see in movies...where there is scary stuff stored or some poor kids bedroom LOL

I would go to Amazon and get the Ipower 600w MH/HPS dimmable w/ventable reflector for $152. That's a good price for a complete fixture.
Simple and cheap, and you'll get a better spread (1/2 oz pays for the fixture) I use both LED and HPS, and the HPS produces a better plant, so I would save the money
You want more help, you can PM me at anytime. Feel free.

Lol. I instantly started thinking of the attic from jumanji. Best just to stay away from attics all together to avoid being thrown into a video game. On a more serious note,..I too am renovating my grow room. I’ve switched it 50 times or more and this is the best I could keep things dialed in while running 1000 Watts mh. Idk why I don’t hear more about people and issues of keeping the heat below 80 F. That’s my biggest battle when at a 1000 Watts. You people are trying to add more light haha. Best of luck if your able to keep the temps below 80. I’m open to advice. I know it looks kind of “ghetto” but it really is angled and dialed in just right. It blows my mind how much better a plant can look when you shed a few degrees of heat

And not sure if it makes any difference or not but there is absolutely zero insulation in my whole house so I don't think the air I'm exhausting up there is really doing much

I think the fresh air exchange is over thought a little or maybe not enough but I seem to get good harvests when I focus on just making sure air is moving constantly and temps are in the 70’s F and humidity around 35% for me. When I get the temps dialed in, then I start to focus on fresh air, co2, etc. just my two cents
