Big Bud?

Just curious... Isn't big bud just a "PK booster"? Is this meant to be ran in conjunction with say, moab, kool bloom, beastie bloomz, etc...? Or is it a stand alone product? I was planning on starting the big bud in week 2 of flower to around week 5 (9 to 10 week strains) and then around week 4 to 6 using either beastie bloomz or moab.

Anyone know the answer to this? I have used big bud for the last year or so, always along with either beastie bloomz or moab. But I read somewhere that big bud is a stand alone and a high p/k fertilizer is not needed. Can anyone confirm??

no problem

also you may wanna use the search engine here, there might be some posts on the subject as well....just fyi
I have searched a lot and although I have found some helpful information, I haven't found what im looking for.

That includes Google as well.

No, Big Bud is the only bloom booster that should be used until the last 2 0r 3 weeks of flower. Then AN recommends Overdrive, (which works well btw), or you can then mix Big Bud and MOAB (not Beastie Bloomz., also a stand alone product). BUT, the ideal combination going this route is, if you can find it, Hammerhead and MOAB the last 2 or three weeks.

I've been using it as a stand-lone product for years tho they sell a couple other things as part of the Big Bud "Tribe". Bud Ignitor and Bud Factor X. I tried the Ignitor in side by side growing and saw no difference so won't bother with it again. Got a 500ml bottle of the X for a free sample so will be trying that out in the near future. It's got some good stuff in it and a couple guys I know swear by it as really boosting yields and resin so I'll have to see for myself before it goes on the menu full time. :)

BBis not just P and K but has 20 amino acids, 10% Sulfur which is the "secret ingredient" in most bud boosters and also citric and ascorbic acids. I actually give the plants more Bloom and a half dose of BB a week or so before flipping to flower and it really seems to get buds going faster compared to waiting until week 2. Tried that over 10 years ago in another side by side and could really see a big difference.

I've tried the OverDrive and like the Ignitor there was no noticeable improvement so don't bother with that any more. Maybe if I'd done some real scientific type measurements I might have found something but If it doesn't really show against the same clone from the same mother grown exactly the same other than the one additive then it's not worth my time or money f'n with it.

Not just AN but most big fert lines have too many things they hype but I've seen quite a few growers really screw things up trying to use them all. A lot of redundancy in many so you end up overdosing plants on some things and locking out others and it goes to shit fast in hydro.

AN says use all 3 together. Ignitor has potassium and phosphorous in it just like Big Bud so so WTF. It also has a proprietary blend of flower enhancing plant extract agents wher Bud Factor X has proprietary bloom enhancing plant extract. There's a difference?

The X has a blend of crustaceans for chitosan, glucosamine with 0.5% Mg and 0.6% willow bark extract. I know the crustacean stuff is supposed to do good things so looking forward to giving that a go.

Hope that answers your questions without bring up a lot more. ;) But happy to help if I can.

Great post! Great info OldMedUser!

I personally love using AN as well. I grow in promix and have tried about every nutrient you can possibly imagine from chems to organics and in between and I can say AN kicks ass, regardless of the greedy marketing. You do get what you pay for.

I have used Big Bud for a couple years now ever since switching to Advanced but always used in conjunction with either Beastie Bloomz or MOAB. I got to wondering yesterday if those are even needed. So I believe this run I will lay off every thing but the Big Bud.

I will run Bud Factor X along with my base nutes and I will be using bud swell along with my BB. I have been growing for over 15 years and have confirmed 110% you will get the best results with a good mixture of both chem based nutrients and organics together.

Do you also use the A&B? I use Sensi myself...

I always feed every watering and half to 3/4 strength.

I remember a couple of years ago I was having problems when I first started using AN. My plants seemed to be showing all sorts of deficiencies... And the leaf tips were yellow and looked like little yellow finger nails on all of the leaf tips. My first thought was nutrient burn starting up... So I backed off the AN line and my problems progressed further.

That is when I decided to email AN and sent them photos and explained all of my issues to them. They simply told me so was under feeding the base nutes and tom continue using it at 3/4 to preferably full strength. I went ahead and gave it a go and low and behold my plants instantly pulled out of it and it was one of the best indoor runs I had ever had... I see a lot of people complaining about deficiencies and other issues while using AN and notice they are all dosing at quarter strength to half. All I can say from experience is bite the bullet and disarm the fear, feed em 3/4 to full strength and watch them thrive.

I know people will hate on us for using AN but hey, its our money, our time and our decision to waste it... Oh, and its our decision to harvest poor low quality yields.... ;)

I was still using my old 3-part AN for a few years after they came out with the pH Perfect stuff but finally ran out of the gallon jugs I had bought and got Sensi for veg and Connie for Bloom. Both parts of each of course. Was having problems with toxic salts buildup and hard crispy leaves starting around the middle of flowering and blamed it on too much nitrogen which you can't do much about with the two part so a year ago last August bought gallon jugs of the 3-part so I could better control the amount of N by using the Lucas Formula style of feeding after the stretch.

Finally came to the conclusion that it was my chronically low RH that was the problem. The plants were sucking up too many nutes with all the extra water they use when the humidity is always low so my last grow I cut the nutes to about half and didn't have that problem.

Vapor Pressure Deficit it's called so I'm going to run lower ppms in the DWC tubs and see how that goes. Too damn hard to maintain a higher RH with a humidifier and get fresh air in to replenish CO2.

I don't find AN to be any more expensive than stuff like GH unless you fall for all the hype and buy their full line of supplements. The 3-part base nutes were actually cheaper than GH when I bought them. $40/gal for the Grow and Bloom and $44 for the Micro. Those nutes come with other goodies too like Wet Betty, a surfactant for better soaking in and root penetration. A bit of fulvic and humic acids and something else I can't recall atm. The pH Perfect part of it is one thing I'd pay more for. I basically retired my pH pen and not having to dick around with that chore makes growing a bit easier and I'm all for that. I grew my first buds in 1978 so playing with my plants isn't as much fun as it is a chore now. :)

Forgot to mention that I use ProMix HP and some of their Veg and Herb mix blended in sometimes. That Veg and Herb will grow plants great in veg all on it's own if you up-pot each time the lower leaves start to yellow a bit. Needs some perlite added if using it by itself tho. Certified organic too as is the HP.

Hey guys, just bought some big bud after reading this post. I'm growing in soil, any advice to mix ratio? Plants are in 4th week of flower. Tiger Bloom is only other nute. I gave one capful per gallon of water so far.

The window for using BB is closing so I'd give them a hefty full dose with the next watering and it might add some plumage to the plants yet.

Thanks, that's what I figured. Giving one capful a gallon this week and next and hopefully see some improvements. 8-9 week strains

I also use AN Sensi Grow & gonna start Sensi Bloom & Big Bud after reading your post. I'm also experiencing yellow tips. Which I figured were from nute burn. I was using the Sensi Grow at 3/4 or a millimetre or so under what the nutrient calculator recommends. 1st time using AN coupled with 1st indoor grow. What would you suggest to use with Big Bud &Sensi Bloom? Gonna buy 1 more bottle of goodness, just not sure what. Thanks to all who've posted in this thread as it's given me a little knowledge.thank you MMSM123

I like using a bit of Rhino Skin from when the plants are still fairly small in veg especially for DWC as soil grows have some silica in the soil and they don't need much. I'm looking forward to experimenting with the free Bud Factor X I have but won't be buying it unless I see a noticeable difference in the yield using it.

The 2-part stuff like Sensi or Connie works well but I didn't like that I can't play around with the amount of different nutrients I feed them like I can with the 3-part which I first started using in '01. During full veg I use the GMB at a 3-2-1 ratio then change to 1-1-1 just before flipping and after the stretch go to a Lucas Formula feed at a 0-1-2 ratio to limit N in later flowering. Last dose of BB at the end of week four for an eight week strain.
