Freezer seeds viable!

Its been years since I have thought about buying seed. Several years ago before I worked in larger scale grow programs, I spent a few years just stock piling seed. Utilizing this forum as well as others to locate the best I could find as well as some that I just simply wanted to try. I started my collecting in 2011-2014 and made it a point to only ever buy regular seeds (No fem, no auto). Back then everything had the "Regular" option and I am so glad I collected what I did when I did because I am noticing seed going to only fem options, save a few select banks. Call me a purist if you like, but I only ever prefer regular. Mainly because I am that guy that will take 5 beans, turn them into 500 and start crossing them with other things just because that's my version of fun. Genetics and breeding are my main interest when growing. Oh sure I love the finished product and the beauty of the plants, but breeding and crossing genetics is what fills my daydreams when I should be working.

Anywho, I made it a point to store these seeds properly and did so with tins, brown rice, vials and a freezer. These seeds have been sitting in the ice box for about 6 years or more. I stopped growing once my first child was born and stored all my genetics away until recently. I have been wanting to make more seed out of some of the strains I had stored up since I could not currently grow on a larger scale for anything more than some personal smoke and seed. So I decided to start off with some of my lesser valued, but still appreciated strains, just to get my head back into it. I had 10 KC Brains Mango beans that were some of my oldest, 6+ years in brown rice in the freezer and every single one of them sprouted! If I have a 100% germ rate after 6= years in a freezer, I am wiling to bet properly stored seed can out live you and your whole family lineage! Seeing the the genetic landscape of cannabis changing more and more every year makes me appreciate my seed bank as well as wanting to add to the pool.

I would love to share all my old genetics and the process of germinating and breeding them. Its been awhile since I have been on the forums, would it be ok to use this thread for that purpose or do mods prefer I use the journals for that?

Nice to see you started with KC's Mango and sweet that germinated for you. I've been on the fence about buying a pack or 2 of mango but not sure if it is the same old mango. I'll be interested in how they turn out for you.

What kind of strains do you have stocked?

I dont have a ton but this is what I do have currently;

I have some Next Gen Romulan F2s

I have what I call Lemulans, I took a clone only Lemon G and let a Next Gen Romulan male have his way. I've not ran these yet but excited to do so since I lost my clone only Lemon G.

I have a fresh pack of Mandala's Ganesh which I have never tried.

I have a ton of Subcool's Plushberry that I made F2s of. This is probably one of my favorite strains to date.

I used to have a clone only M39 as well which I have since lost. This was a fantastic, very berry tasting plant with solid golf ball like nugs. I hit one of the clones with a Plushberry male and have a bag of seed from that breeding which I am VERY curious to try.

I have some Herijuanna that I think came from Sannies

Some of Jackberry that came from either Eskobar or Sannies

Chocolate Rain from Eskobar

C99 from KOS

Heribei x LUI/G13 from sannies

and some Grape God from Next Gen...

NIce!

If that grape god is from 2009-2011 then you've gotta use a male of that for crosses! Some of my best creations came from a grape god male, not to mention the weed was some of the fruitiest flavor I've grown.

Plus that romulan is starting to peak interest with folks around RIU again. Hope they all produce well for you!

It's awesome that you're doing this and putting it out there. There have been more than a few strains that disappeared between seed companies going under or discontinuing strains and growers junking their males without ever preserving the line.

Hey thanks! Genetics and breeding has always fascinated me, it is probably my main drive in this hobby, as well as just trying to simply perserve lines. Your right and many more lines could disapear just over the course of a few years simply from carelessness. Give me reg seeds any day

So a little update on the 6 KC Brains Mango seeds i started. I am about 2 weeks into flower and as usual the males are eager and willing to show themselves. In the 1st picture i put the 3 suspected females up front with suspect males in back. You will notice the more obvious male, lankey and towering rear left. The other two next to it may be herms but im not 100% sure. I say that because of the female qualities.
2nd pic is the suspect females. Some showing preflower. You'll notice the runt far left. That'll probably be the funkiest female of the bunch. 3rd pic are suspected males. 4th pic is another one of the runt and the last pics are suspected herms
