How do you get rid of the tire - older guys. Six Pack Abs - not a beer six pack

F***. I have been going to the gym almost daily, doing HITT/intervals on treadmills and elipticals, crunches, planks, medicine ball twists, side twists, leg press, press above the head, curls, lats and other machine weight training. I do the machines and free weights then HITT/Intervals for about 30 minutes.

I am doing the 18 hour fast with no breakfast and limited eating for lunch and dinner.
Cutting out milk, no red meat (I have normal blood pressure because I have avoided red meat for 30 years), trying to get rid of sugar and grains.

The intervals are about 8 to 10 - 30 second bursts with 90 seconds of moderate speed on elipticals or treadmill running up to 6.9 mph.

Getting in better shape but the tire is still there. Smaller and getting better but still there. I know one dude on here who does like 800 crunches. I cannot do that. Some guy on youtube says 100 squats a day.

I am going to get a decent mountain bike. I had one and it seems like the only thing that takes it off is 20 miles a day on the bike (flat land riding not trails) or hard core jogging and jogging is hard for me. I can walk then jog a little then walk - repeat.

Any supplements or speed that is good? Thanks.

What types of fats are you eating? Also have you looked into carb cycling? Do you time your carbs according to their GI ? A six pack is a hard thing to get if not genetically gifted, abs are made in the kitchen not the gym. A good way to increase resting metabolism is to gain muscle weight as you will use more energy from day to day, carb timing helps with the body storing food as fats and enables you to burn the energy efficiently. Fasting is good for immune system ect but sometimes what can happen is the body doesn’t think it’s getting any food so it stores fat for emergencies, it’s a survival instinct, carb cycling is very effective at tricking this instinct. Hope this helps, if you need any more info or are unsure just ask, I studied sports nutrition and have a good few years experience in bodybuilding ✌

How old are you? I'm almost 70 and fat with various kinds of ailments that don't let me do much. Consider yourself lucky if you're young enough to catch it before your "senior" years. All I can do is low impact aerobics and that won't get rid of a gut. Just don't get too impatient, you probably have more time than you think. You are on the right track doing it now.

Diet is huge. NO sugar, fats from avacados, watch your grains (I like rice because it provides good energy and burns fast). Pretty much everything at the store, including meats is BS because it's so full of crap. Beer/alcohol will put a tire on you quick! No fried foods or soda!!!

Machines are good for bulking, but to cut you have to slow burn your abs... Planks, leg lifts, bicycles. Slowly rotate during crunches. If you can do more than 15 reps in anything ab, you are not doing them right.

I had a shredded ten pack, almost did a Bowflex commercial. At 48, I can still see an 8 pack and I haven't really worked out in a decade. Once you get there, maintaining is so much easier. Be patient, sounds like you're on your way.

Caloric deficit is where you find weight loss, no matter what shitty foods you ate, if you are still in caloric deficit for that day, you will lose weight. What does that mean? You burn more calories than you intake. Eat whole foods, and high protein diet. Small snacks throughout the day and one large meal around 6pm work great. Eating too late at night even healthy food is a no go for weight loss. Good luck man

How long have you been doing this?

Have you done weighted hanging leg raises? Try them. You need to build up your core strength and ab muscles. Planks are too easy. You also need to lower your body fat percentage to uncover them. I don’t believe in crunches. TRX jackknife or ab wheel. Work on the compound lifts. Dead lift, squat, bench press, overhead press, clean. Try the front Squat. You use a ton of core strength In the front Squat. No meat? Are you getting enough protein?

With that said, it looks like I have a beer belly. Lol kidding. I was just basically bulking and powerlifting last year. Trying to get lean now myself. Reduced my carb intake and I’ve been jumproping for 4 2 minute rounds at the end of workouts.

Have you tried myfitnesspal? What’s your weight now vs goal weight?

Damn. Forgot this. +rep

Eating small meals throughout the day is good because your body will burn calories knowing more fuel is coming. If you only eat a couple of big meals a day your body stores fats because it isn;t sure when the next meal is coming.

Daydreams by Thomas Couture, the vice of vanity is shown through a boy blowing bubbles

Narcissus (1590s) by Caravaggio
In later life, the adult may seek to 'return to this narcissistic mode of being, notably through music, passionate love, or mystical ecstasy'.(Gym workout?)

For some, the whole 'purpose of love...[is] equal exchange in an atmosphere of shared narcissistic elation'

Others may consider as ultimately futile this 'search for a pure narcissistic exaltation, the elation procured by the imaginary contemplation of the object'

and yet still recognise the power of 'the enchantment of love...as the exaltation of the other...this breathlessness which, with the other,

has created the most false of demands, that of narcissistic satisfaction'.

Then came the holidays , went off my lifestyle change and gained 10 pounds back. :wall:haha
Still down 27 pounds :P
Started last week back to being Vegan again. Need to drop another 25 pounds to reach my goal.
Haven't seen my abs since I was in the service. That was a long time ago..haha

keep up what you're doing, forget about small meals, eating like that doesn't give your stomach any rest and keeps glucose levels high. Also NO high protein diet.

Just dropped 50 lbs in the last six months. It was pretty easy, I simply stopped overeating. If you don't eat your body burns stored fat. I'm amazed at how easy it was. Count your calories. ;)
Yup, with you there, did the same without exercise (since I can't just now) and simply stopped shovelling so much down my gizzard. Dropped the white bread altogether, unless it's sourdough, dropped white rice for whole brown rice, changed to spelt and wholemeal pasta, wholemeal or multigrain wraps, no sugar-filled crap like cookies, candy or sodas, dropped any meat above 10% fat and generally stick to 5% (still plenty options there, trust me), and so on. I get the munchies, I have a cup of tea and a bit of fruit instead of salt, fat and sugar filled shite.

Weight fell off at around the same as you, and it's still going so another 10lbs and I'll have my beach body instead of my beached whale body, and hoping to have either the metformin cut again in a couple of months or be off it altogether. Piece of piss if you set your mind to it, and that's where most fall down because they don't WANT to change.

Oh, personal choice, main meal at midday and not evening as more energy is burned during the day than when lounging around in front of telly in the evening. Not everyone can do that though, due to their own daily schedules.

And I don't count calories, you can end up putting so much pressure on yourself that the diet simply won't work, best to say "Right, I'm eating THAT amount, effectively a child portion, and no more". Much simpler, but, as I say, most people will fall down there because the mental strength isn't there.

Like any habit, it really is all in the head.

Yup, that's why I say those who say they can't generally don't want to.

Why "generally"? Well, there are some with medical issues or on certain medication who will find it hard to lose, but they don't make up the majority of chubsters
