Getting jobs at legal grow sites.

So, out here in BC there are plenty of large scale grow companies either expanding or starting up. There's one near me that will employ over 200 people and grow 125,000 kilo's a year. What I want to know is what type of skills do these companies want and what courses are available to people that will increase their chances of getting jobs in this industry? I have a college (Okanagan College) just down the street and some time on my hands. Does anyone have any experience they can share on the subject? I'd be willing to invest in some education that will help me secure employment in this field. Appreciate any feedback....

I'm guessing you'll probably make more money are a berry farm.

Honestly, get yourself a regular job and just do your own thing. Working at one of the big grows is the equivalent to working in any large scale greenhouse or farm. (there is a reason most of those jobs are done by seasonal non Canadians.)
Live your life, grow your plants, and then when the time comes start your own thing.
I can assure you the jobs being offered are not what you are expecting.
Why would any artist work in a factory for walmart when they could create their own at home?
Cheers :)

Well said gh.. only people signing up are those with no experince or knowledge. The first flaw in the plan is how to fill the labour force with shitty pay. Youll have more room for passion in your closet than going in and out of security checkpoints each day to keep you honest..

These are companies built on nothing redeeming. Never apply........stay decent. They may be legal but that doesn't mean they are honorable.
Around here...we hate em.

they want croppers and monkeys to mindlessly tend the plants mostly.
it's nothing like the passion of growing and love for the plant you have now man.

and as hippy says; even if they did do you well.. do you really want to help/support them and make them better? ~yeah i know; someone else with skills probably will, but i'll rest easy knowing it wont be me ;-)

Yeah, I'd say the fun would wear off pretty quickly. You'll have a bunch of suits who read a book treating you like a idiot for $12/hr. Hold off and do your own thing or find a craft grower to work for/with.

Don't listen to these fuck wads, follow your heart and your dreams. To answer your question, skills vary but in my recent experience in dealing with LP's, it can be anything from general agriculture experience to self taught homegrowers, if you have a grow on the go and you can take pics and samples in to a meeting/interview and be prepared to discuss in detail your growing experience be it 4 plants in a tent or a 20 light mmar grow, be honest and truthful, let them know your passion for the plant, and shoot more then one dart, hit up a few places locally until you land something.
I recently landed a job related to the industry not at an LP but I have access to a lot of LP's now, most of the guys I have met so far that work at or run LP's are just regular people who love cannabis.

Do not pay any thought to the naysayers on here who hate LP's mainly because they hate their lives. This industry is here to stay and the people who get in early are the smart ones. Good luck in your ventures, I hope you find your place. If you do have legit experience with cannabis send me a direct message, I have a few friends in BC who may be able to help you.

Master grower at a "regular" greenhouse clearing over 100k? seriously? not to mention working with cannabis all day and directing how LP's conduct growing?

Around here a select few hate them. For fuck sakes you guys need to get a life and stop crying to people about LP's mad because the Gov will not let you sell weed from your shitty home grow? get over it.
All the guys on here crying about LP's are all the same guys that wanted to be an LP way back, fuck you guys are no different, you want to grow weed to sell to your so called "patients" get outta here with that old bull shit.
Every man has a price, I put money on it most of you on here crying about LP's price would actually be cheep.
So all LP's are bad but some how the almighty hippy and GB and a few others and good? get the fuck out of here with that. Fact is in time LP's will get better, they will hire the right people, and eventually you guys will be dinosaurs, this is evolution my friends.
You guys are truly fowl for telling people to not go after their dreams and to not look for work. SMH...........

It's foul....and you're a dick....there isn't a hope in hell that I can afford to buy from the legal market....not now and not after legalization. I don't think there are too many people participating here that wanted to be LPs - maybe itsmehigh is left...I buy from another patient who sells it to me for really cheap...and it helps me with what ails me...I'm on a disability pension and that's not about to change. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only patient in that situation...I'm greatful to those patients with scripts that overgrow for their needs and help someone like me out, and as long as the price remains at $10/g+ I will have need of the black market.

not if we can help it ;-)
i'd much rather the guy who knows how to grow top shelf stuff; be able to do it on his own, and not be a corporate slave.

i fucking hate the monopoly they're getting, not so much the LP's.
i have no problem with them in a fair open market. i think it bullshit they get handed a monopoly though and will fight as much as i can against its/their success.

so much more jobs and wealth spread around canada with an open market, that's what you should be fighting for too. not this marijuana monopoly.. big alcohol, pharma, and tobacco are bad.. what makes you think big marijuana will be any better?

gonna be shit. cut corners and try to make as much profit as possible, that is not what this plant is about..
IMO it's everything opposite the LP's stand for.
